John Woo's Le Samouraï remake (2011-2012)
John Woo has been busy the last couple of years with his Chinese epic Red Cliff. Now he's been talking about his upcoming projects. One could be another epic that focuses on Marco Polo. Another project could have him return to the world of gun-play and assassins. Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le Samouraï could be remade by Woo. He spoke about it with Movieline. I'm not sure if the film will be a direct remake but it would nice to see it still set in France. Along with casting French actors.
"I still have two projects that I like very much," Woo said. "One is trying to remake a French classic called Le Samouraï." That news may surprise Woo fans, since the director already mounted a near-remake of Jean-Pierre Melville’s 1967 crime drama with his Chow Yun-Fat starrer The Killer. However, twenty years have passed since the release of The Killer, and as Woo explained, "I want to make it into a modern film."
Casting Thoughts
Louis Garrel (The Dreamers),Mathieu Amalric (Munich, Quantum of Solace) and Vincent Cassel (Eastern Promises) would be great casting choices.
Also Marion Cotillard (Inception) and Melanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds)
