Nathan Fillion Wants To Play A SPIDER-MAN Villain?

Fans have been dying to see Nathan Fillion play a Marvel superhero with rumors of him being in the running for Hank Pym (Ant-Man) and Peter Quill (Starlord). Nathan was asked on Twitter if he had his choice which Marvel character would he play? His answer was surprising as he names Spidey villain Mac Gargan (Scorpion). Considering the massive amount of villains already expected for Amazing Spider-Man 2 it's possible Marc Webb could seriously take him up on this. You might remember Paul Giamatti went on Conan to campaign for the role of The Rhino and ened up playing him in this upcoming sequel.

Hayley Atwell Should Have A Shot At Playing Lara Croft In TOMB RAIDER

British actress Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Sweeney) retweeted fans asking MGM to consider her for Lara Croft in their reboot of Tomb Raider. I think they should at least test her for the role. Since she's actually British along with having previous badass roles in Captain America (also inspired by Indiana Jones) and Sweeney. Hayley could end up pulling off Croft convincingly unlike Jolie or someone like Olivia Wilde.

Justin Theroux In The Mix To Play DOCTOR STRANGE?

CHUD reports that Marvel Studios is strongly considering actor/writer Justin Theroux (Zoolander, Charlie's Angels 2, Your Highness, America Psycho) for the role of Dr. Stephen Strange in Doctor Strange. They say that others might also be in the mix but Justin is the only name currently being mentioned. Theroux might have an in with the studio since he wrote Iron Man 2 and being very good friends with Robert Downey Jr. Writing Tropic Thunder which helped Robert land a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. He also has a knack for accents if the studio is aiming Strange to be more European to separate from the many American heroes. While Benedict Cumberbatch has been the favorite for thethe role it's possible Marvel is making sure they have options. It's an odd choice since Justin is best known for playing villains.

Joss Whedon Says AVENGERS 2 Might Shoot In February 2014 And Had The Idea For The Sequel Before The First Film Was Figured Out

Whatever tidbits of information we can get out of Joss Whedon about the MCU is greatly anticipated. On the MTV Movie Awards red carpet Joss spoke to ET (via BleedingCool) and revealed a couple of things. First, Avengers 2 could begin production in February 2014 which will take place in the UK at Pinewood Studios. He also mentioned that he had the idea for the sequel before the release of the first Avengers film. However, Whedon mentioned the downfall of rolling out films knowing they'll end up completing a trilogy instead of making solid standalones. I assume that the sequel might have been developed from Joss' early outlines for the first installment.

We should start shooting I think in February… I didn’t think I was going to do the second but I had an idea for it before I’d figured out the first one. You go into a movie not assuming there’s going to be… I’ve seen plenty of movies that were the first part of the trilogy that never happened and it’s terrible. You don’t save anything for the trip back. Having said that, though, I did sort of know, “Well, if they were to come back, I know what’s going to happen… It’s going to be awful."

It's expected that the main four cast members Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo will be back. It's a bit uncertain if supporting cast members such as Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Cobie Smulders might be benched to allow other Marvel characters to take part in the fun. Three out of four will be next seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and could end up staying in that franchise until Avengers 3 which might involve Civil War. New additions Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp), Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and The Guardians of The Galaxy (Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker) might end up becoming the supporting cast of the sequel.

Rumblings of a new superhero have also started with Kevin Feige stating they wanted a new one added to the Avengers lineup. Morris Chestnut (Kick-Ass 2, Boyz N The Hood) teased on Twitter recently he might be playing Avenger member The Black Panther. It's unlikely that heroes Doctor Strange or Ant-Man will be joining the team before Avengers 3 because their origins have to play out in Phase Three first.

David O'Russell's AMERICAN HUSTLE Coming In December And Set Photos Reveal Stunning Costume Design

Finally David O'Russell's (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook) next film has been given an official title which is now American Hustle (formerly American Bullshit) according to ScreenRant. The film is likely going to get an Oscar push around it's festival run and it's eventual release on December 13th of this year. It's based on the true events of the ABSCAM scandal.  An FBI sting operation in the late 70s and ’80s  set up by a con artist (Christian Bale) and his partner (Amy Adams). Resulting in several well known members of Congress being exposed for corruption. The cast is beyond stellar with Bale, Adams, Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Pena,  Jack Huston, Louis C.K. and Dawn Olivieri.

Michael Rooker Will Play Original Guardian Yondu In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Deadline reports that Walking Dead's Michael Rooker (Days of Thunder, Tombstone) has signed on for a role in Guardians of The Galaxy. Rooker will play Yondu an alien big game hunter who becomes one of the original founding members of Guardians of The Galaxy. Yondu will likely be the only character from the original team to be among the lineup. It's the first time we've had confirmation of a new addition to the lineup of Starlord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Michael has also had roles in both James Gunn's previous films Slither and Super.

Tom Cruise Attaches Himself To Sci-Fi Flick YUKIKAZE At Warner Bros.

Deadline reports that Tom Cruise is sticking with science fiction as the actor has signed on to take the lead in Warner Bros' Yukikaze. The film is based on the string of Japanese novels by Chohel Kamayashi which spawned an anime series. Cruise took on All You Need Is Kill for the studio and is being looked at for Guy Ritchie's The Man From U.N.C.L.E. He also has Mission: Impossible 5 and a Jack Reacher sequel in development. It's possible that he could also have a sequel for Oblivion down the line as well. Yukikaze is yet another Japanese influenced project which fits previous projects like Pacific Rim, All You Need Is Kill and Godzilla.

In the early 21st Century, three decades after the alien force JAM invaded earth through a dimensional porthole that appeared over Antarctica. While humans beat back the attack, they form a special combat force to eradicate the alien threat on its home planet.

Danny Woodburn Cast As Master Splinter In TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, Does This Mean Splinter Will Be A New Yorker Not Japanese?

Deadline reports that actor Danny Woodburn (Watchmen, Seinfeld) has been cast as Master Splinter in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle reboot. I'm curious if this means that Splinter's Japanese origin will be changed to a gruff New Yorker. Yet another possible element of the mythology being systematically changed for zero reason.

Sly Stallone Testing Waters For Mel Gibson To Direct EXPENDABLES 3

This is a bit of a shocker since we've been hearing that John Woo could be helming Expendables 3. Today, Sly took to twitter to ask fans if he should considering having Mel Gibson direct the film. I have to admit that Braveheart is one of the greatest films of the 90's so having him direct could be a giant upgrade from Simon West. Gibson recently took a villain role in the Robert Rodriguez film Machete Kills. I'd love to see a Tequila Sunrise/Tango And Cash reunion with Mel and Kurt Russell. No word if Sly has actually gone after Gina Carano (Haywire, Fast And Furious 6) for a role which he previously had teased. Wesley Snipes has been also been linked for a role.
