Tom Cruise Attaches Himself To Sci-Fi Flick YUKIKAZE At Warner Bros.
Deadline reports that Tom Cruise is sticking with science fiction as the actor has signed on to take the lead in Warner Bros' Yukikaze. The film is based on the string of Japanese novels by Chohel Kamayashi which spawned an anime series. Cruise took on All You Need Is Kill for the studio and is being looked at for Guy Ritchie's The Man From U.N.C.L.E. He also has Mission: Impossible 5 and a Jack Reacher sequel in development. It's possible that he could also have a sequel for Oblivion down the line as well. Yukikaze is yet another Japanese influenced project which fits previous projects like Pacific Rim, All You Need Is Kill and Godzilla.
In the early 21st Century, three decades after the alien force JAM invaded earth through a dimensional porthole that appeared over Antarctica. While humans beat back the attack, they form a special combat force to eradicate the alien threat on its home planet.

Tom Cruise Could Lead Guy Ritchie's THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., Ritchie Could Walk If A Lead Can't Be Secured
THR reports that's it's do or die time for Guy Ritchie's The Man From U.N.C.L.E. at Warner Bros. The film (budding franchise) is about to loose it's director if the studio can't secure a lead. Tom Cruise is newest actor being looked at for the role of Napoleon Solo. If it doesn't pan out Guy might walk to focus on another one of his many projects. Those include Treasure Island and The Real RockNRolla which Ritchie has been developing for a while now. Sherlock Holmes 3 is still being worked out as Robert Downey Jr. is trying to figure out if Avengers 2 and possibly Iron Man 4 are in the cards.
Cruise's All You Need Is Kill setup at Warner Bros. is getting them excited to him in another big projects and already has a successful franchise based on a classic TV series with Mission: Impossible. It will be interesting to see if this goes forward before Mission: Impossible 5 that just landed Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher, Usual Suspects) as it's director. Tom also has a few possible projects that have been developing in the last couple of years including Guillermo del Toro's At The Mountains Of Madness and Van Helsing reboot. The former almost went into production at Universal but is could move to another opened minded studio.
More recently, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon had been offered the leads but like many before them passed. When Steven Soderbergh (Haywire, Ocean's 11, Traffic) was originally attached to direct a slew of talent was being looked at including George Clooney, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Joel Kinnaman and Michael Fassbender. Scott Z. Burns had penned the film's script when Soderbergh was involved. There had been talk of making it a period piece (60's) setting itself apart from other espionage themed action flicks.

Ridley Scott's THE FOREVER WAR Get's A New Writer
Deadline reports that Ridley Scott's sci-fi epic The Forever War is getting a new screenwriter. They say that D.W. Harper has been tapped by Scott and Fox to develop a new script for the project. Harper recently adapted All You Need Is Kill which has similar tones. It had been rumored that David Peoples (Blade Runner) had also taken a shot at adapting the novel by Joe Haldeman. It sounds like Ridley's involvement with Prometheus, it's sequel Paradise and the Blade Runner sequel has sparked new interest in the film. Forever War has the ability to be the next Avatar franchise for Fox if done properly.
A soldier reluctantly battles an enemy in deep space, and while he spends a short time in battle, the time dilation of space channel causes him to return home to a planet that has aged to the point it is almost unrecognizable to the soldier.

Christopher McQuarrie In Talks To Direct MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5
Deadline reports that writer/director Christopher McQuarrie is in talks with Paramount to helm Mission: Impossible 5. McQuarrie is best known as an Oscar winning screenwriting for films such as Usual Suspects, Way of The Gun, Valkyrie, The Wolverine, Jack The Giant Slayer and All You Need Is Kill. He recently did double duty with the Tom Cruise actioner Jack Reacher and seems to have impressed the studio brass. Not to mention they would end up with a solid screenwriter.

Emily Blunt Joins 'ALL YOU NEED IS KILL' Starring Tom Cruise
ShowBlitz reports that British actress Emily Blunt is now in talks to join Doug Liman's (Bourne Identity) adaptation of the manga All You Need Is Kill which stars Tom Cruise. Blunt is quickly becoming the go-to leading lady starring in dramatic, comedies and now sci-fi actioners. She has the comedy Five-Year Engagement later this month with action sci-fi thriller Looper coming in September. Warner Bros. who is making this film had wanted Blunt for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. before Guy Ritchie came on as the producer and was put on hold.
It's interesting to see how Emily is placing herself into action roles since she eventually missed on out the Black Widow role. I still think that if any actress working today deserves her own action franchise it's Blunt who is equally comedic, witty and charming. Here's hoping that Marvel ends up knocking on her door again.

Tom Cruise Will Star In All You Need Is Kill
Variety reports that Tom Cruise has landed the lead role in the film All You Need Is Kill based on the Japanese manga. A lot of names had been attached or linked to the project which included Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.Cruise is at the point in his career where he's still believable as an action star and is going all out with his next couple of films. He's already set to star in the science fiction action film Oblivion/Horizons and Mission Impossible 4 is about to be released this month. The latter is expected to be his last of the franchise handing it off to Jeremy Renner.
There are a few connections to Jeremy Renner with this project as well since the film's script was originally written by Dante Harper. Dante recently wrote Renner's upcoming horror comedy Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters that Renner co-stars with Gemma Arterton. It will be directed by Doug Liman (Mr. And Mrs. Smith) who directed the first Bourne film Identity. Another franchise that Renner will be taking over with Bourne Legacy.

Tom Cruise In Talks For All You Need Is Kill?
HollywoodReporter states that director Doug Liman (Bourne Identity) is now in talks with Tom Cruise for the lead in the adaptation of All You Need Is Kill for Warner Bros. Now apparently given the new terrible title We Mortals Are which I assume will get yet another title change soon. Originally when Doug Liman was hired, Ryan Gosling had been mentioned as a choice for the lead. Gosling would eventually pass and end up with Logan's Run another Warner Bros. sci-fi project with director Nicolas Winding Refn. Not too long ago Brad Pitt had been mentioned and seemed likely as Liman worked with him on Mr. & Mrs. Smith.Cruise is grinding out a number of action films likely to make hay while he can still do them. He's also doing Joseph Kosinski's (Tron Legacy) Horizons (Oblivion) starring alongside Jessica Chastain which is another massive science fiction action film. I'm not sure how interesting this manga adaptation will be considering how Warner Bros. has handled Akira another project that has had casting issues and is currently in limbo.

Doug Liman In Talks To Direct All You Need Is Kill?

Deadline reports director Doug Liman (Bourne Identity) is circling Warner Bros. science fiction film All You Need Is Kill based on the Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. The project seems to be a high priority for the studio as they've also met with Sam Raimi, before he decided on directing Disney's Oz prequel. It's likely Liman will take this on considering his Three Musketeers project is getting overshadowed by Summit's version and could get axed very soon.
"A soldier pressed into battle against a superior alien species, gets killed in action, and relives his last day alive over and over. Eventually, he sees things change, he becomes a better warrior and discovers hints that might be the key to altering the outcome. "
