Alan Silvestri To Score Captain America!

There had been a lot of rumored composers involved with Captain America. FilmMusicReporter says Marvel/Paramount has decided on Alan Silvestri to score the film. Silverstri is best known for scoring Back To The Future 1-3, The Abyss, The Quick & The Dead, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Forest Gump and Predator 1-2. While most superhero films can do without amazing scores this one is a mix of Saving Private Ryan meets Indiana Jones. So you expect something larger than life for a Captain America score.

Tarantino Making Untitled Spaghetti Western & Christoph Waltz Has A Role?

AICN is reporting that Quentin Tarantino's next film will be a Spaghetti Western set to shoot sometime this year. They also mention that Christoph Waltz will have a role in the film. Zero plot information is attached to this story and who Waltz will play. Take this news with grain of salt as this could be from mouth of Tarantino himself but could never end up happening. He's notorious for talking up possible projects but never actually happening. Yet, it's interesting to think this could be the film he makes before jumping into Kill Bill 3.

Tarantino has long talked about his love for Italian director Sergio Leone and being a major influence in his films. Leone directed some of the best westerns ever put on film including Once Upon A Time In The West and The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. They say the project could start shooting sometime this year in Spain and Italy. I could see see Quentin doing a similar way of shooting that he did with Inglourious Basterds. Shooting and editing at the same time to have it ready for a premiere at Cannes next year.  If true this just became my most anticipated film of 2012.

FILMS THAT SHOULD BE MADE: C.O.P.S

Being a child of the 80's I noticed how Hollywood has mined the cartoons of my childhood starting with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Masters of The Universe (He-Man). Then more recently with Transformers 1-3 and G.I. Joe 1-2. Yet there are still more shows on the horizon to become films. Thundercats and Robotech along with reboots for both TMNT and Masters of The Universe are in development.



One of my favorite shows from the 80's hasn't even been mentioned. C.O.P.S, it had an odd mix of elements from Robocop, Dick Tracy, Untouchables, Blade Runner and G.I. Joe set in a fictitious future metropolis Empire City. I believe that it has enough of a visual presence that it could make an excellent movie. I figure if they can make three movies about robots without personalities and plot a studio could make something out of this.

Like G.I. Joe and Transformers it started off as a Hasbro toyline (COPS N Crooks) and even ended up getting released as a limited edition comic series by DC Comics.While I'm sure the show didn't age well I think the character designs and setting have. With villain names like Dr. Badvibes and Buttons McBoomBoom who can resist? I wouldn't be shocked to see Paramount Pictures and Hasbro look to C.O.P.S in the future. Considering the two have made a Battleship movie together anything is possible.

I Saw The Devil RED BAND Trailer

“I Saw the Devil” is a Korean revenge thriller about the death of a government agent’s girl-friend and his unbroken and almost sadistic will to make her killer suffer. The serial killer is played by “Old Boy” star Choi Min-sik and the government agent is played by Lee Byung-hyum ( Hero, GI Joe: Rise of Cobra). This film has been compared to Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance Trilogy (containing Oldboy). The director is Kim Ji-woon, who has found recent international success with his “The Good, The Bad, The Weird.” Considering, the great cast and proven director, I think this film will be an excellent grunge revenge tale and eventually get a successful US release. In recent years, Korean films have been slowly but increasingly finding an audience in the United States. More popular films that have been released in the US are, “The Host”, “Oldboy”, “My Wife is a Gagster”, “My Sassy Girl” and “II mare” (remade as The Lake House). I’ve seen both “The Host” and “Oldboy” and recommend them but with some small stipulations. “Oldboy” is excellent but extremely gruesome and not suitable for the squeamish and The Host has a unique take on the monster genre, with some impressive cinematic attributes; but its special effects and overall story were somewhat ungratifying.

Bourne Legacy Moves On

Tony Gilroy, writer of the first three Bourne films and director of Duplicity and Michael Clayton, is writing and directing the Bourne spin-off "Bourne Legacy." Empire Magazine reports that he is currently taking meetings with several actors to replace Matt Damon.

Yes, Bourne Legacy will NOT star Matt Damon. Specific reasons can only be speculated but there haven’t been any reports that would suggest a negative separation. I think Damon and Paul Greengrass (Director of Bourne 1-3) are just ready to move on. Continuing with Bourne Legacy, so far (according to Deadline) there is a long list of actors pursuing this role: Jake Gyllenhaal, Joel Edgerton, Josh Hartnett, Tobey Maguire, Paul Dano, Micheal Pitt, Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund, Micheal Fassbender, Luke Evans, Alex Pettyfer, Taylor Kitsch and Benjamin Walker. This is a ridiculous list; half of these candidates are absurd and the other half are already attached to many other projects. For example, Tobey Maguire...his mere consideration is an insult to the franchise or even pretty boys like Alex Pettyfer (I am Number Four) or Taylor Kitsch (Wolverine: X-men Origins) don’t come remotely close to the likes of a potential successor. But on the other side of things better actors such as Micheal Fassbender, Paul Dano and Jake Gyllenhaal are already attached to many other films and (in my opinion) just don't seem to fit either.

Out of this odd assortment of actors personally, I think Garrett Hedlund (Tron, Four Brothers) or Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom) would be good choices. Both would take the film in different dirrections but they share similar attributes in their versatility, intensity and rising careers. Garrett Hedlund, I know is somewhat of a strange choice but his roles in “Death Sentence” and “Four Brothers” showcase his adaptability, and capable honesty and grit. But despite my opinion, I think it’s safe to say that Jake Gyllenhaal and Josh Hartnett are forerunners.

Len Wiseman's Total Recall Reboot Gets 2012 Release Date!

Sony has officially announced the release date of Len Wiseman's (Underworld 1-2, Die Hard 4) Total Recall. It will hit theaters on August 3rd 2012 with Colin Farrell in the lead role.

I hope it keeps a lot of the original science fiction elements since the words "contemporary" have been attached to the official synopsis. I would assume this means we won't be seeing an advanced/futuristic world of espionage. Along with the exclusion of Mars elements from the original film have been scrapped likely to save the studio money.

I really hope they don't go the route of The Adjustment Bureau which looks like it could end up one of the worst adaptations of Phillip K. Dick's work because of it's lack of futuristic science fiction elements. I believe Dick's stories are best used in film when they're applied to a full-on science fiction movie Blade Runner, Minority Report and Total Recall being the best of the bunch.

Viggo Mortensen Could Play The Villain In Superman

HeatVision reports that Viggo Mortensen is a person of interest to play the villain in Zack Snyder's Superman. Viggo is currently in talks to join Snow White & The Huntsman but that deal hasn't been signed just yet. I'll be curious to see if Christopher Nolan and Snyder are able to win him over to take the role. Vision believes the role is of General Zod famously played by Terrence Stamp in Superman II. Henry Cavill is the soul actor that has been cast so far but it's expected as the summer gets closer we'll be hearing more official news.

Jon M. Chu Chosen To Direct G.I. Joe 2

Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures has decided on a director for G.I. Joe: Revenge of Cobra. It's Jon M. Chu who is best known for the Step Up series and the Justin Bieber documentary Never Say Never. It's an odd choice but seems like the studio wants to keep the project in check. Hiring a lesser known name could allow them to have more control over the production and not let it slip into the bizarre zone like Sommer's film did. I don't think this is a terrible choice but it will be met with some skepticism until we get a trailer. He hasn't finalized a deal with the studio but is the frontrunner at the moment and has been told by Paramount as such.

Chu recently spoke to MTV on his thoughts of directing a G.I. Joe sequel before this news broke. It sounds like he is an actual fan growing up with the original cartoon and believes there is still a movie to be told for "real" fans of the franchise. I believe Chu is from my generation it's a big bonus for fans as he could take the film to places a non-fan couldn't.


"'Joe' is something I've loved since I was a kid," he told us. "I still think there's a movie out there that can be done for the real 'Joe' fans, the one we've been waiting for that hasn't been done before."


"My era was 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,' 'G.I. Joe' and 'Transformers,'" he continued. "When 'Joe' changed their theme song from the old style—'Go Joe!'—to 'Got to get tough, go Joe!' That was the era I was in. Those are the fun, glory years that I remember."

While there is a script in place by the interesting writing duo of Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Zombieland, Deadpool, Venom) they haven't signed anyone to reprise their roles. Paramount is first going after Channing Tatum to return as Duke but don't expect everyone to come back. I assume actors like Sienna Miller, Joesph Gordon-Levitt, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Rachel Nichols could need some convincing as they have other projects to consider.

Jimmi Simpson Joins Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Variety reports that Jimmi Simpson has joined Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in an unnamed role. Simpson might be best known for his work on It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia and villainous role in Date Night. I expect Jimmi could be playing one of the evil vampires Abe has to slay. Ben Walker, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Dominic Cooper have been previously cast in the film directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted).

Idris Elba, Sean Harris & Kate Dickie Join Ridley Scott's Prometheus

TheDailyMail is reporting that Idris Elba (RockNRolla, The Wire), Sean Harris (Red Riding Trilogy) and Kate Dickie have joined Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Their roles are unknown at this point but I wouldn't rule out a couple of them being suits from the company. The amazing cast also has Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron in the leads.

Scoot McNairy (Monsters) has been linked for a role as well but it's unknown if he'll end up in the movie. As he's set to be a lead in Cogan's Trade and could take a role in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.


There are some rumors suggesting that the story could involve the original aliens but might be unrecognizable from the ones in the original two films. Like how the alien in Alien3 was hosted by a dog and moved/looked different from the aliens hosted by humans. A planet used to grow bio-weapons could also be involved this might be the origin planet of the xenomorphs. Of course this is all speculation also with the persistent talk of the space jockey being in the film as well. Prometheus along with Elysium are two science fiction films I'm dying to see in 2012. No matter how much of the original alien is involved. I've been waiting a long time for Ridley Scott to return to science fiction and the quality of the cast he's trying to assemble speaks volumes to me.

Ewan McGregor Joins Jack The Giant Killer

HeatVision reports there is another excellent addition to Bryan Singer's Jack The Giant Killer. Ewan McGregor is final talks to play the leader of the King's elite guard. I'm guessing that Warner Bros. He would join Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci and Bill Nighy. I wouldn't be shocked to see Warner Bros. developing this as a new fantasy adventure franchise trying to capture the interest of Harry Potter fans.

John August Rewriting Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft?

Empire found some tidbits that could see John August rewriting the comic adaptation of The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft. August is best known for working with Tim Burton on Big Fish, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie. Ron Howard voiced his intentions on directing the film but seems busy with a budding Dark Tower trilogy. I'd rather see someone more based in the world of science fiction or horror take on the film.

Lovecraft is to horror what Philip K. Dick is science fiction or Tolkien to fantasy and it's shocking that Hollywood hasn't mined more of his classic tales. Of course Guillermo del Toro's gestating At The Mountains of Madness could help expose the author to mainstream audiences.

If Jon Favreau wasn't going to make Magic Kingdom I'd love to see him take on a horror project. Of course my favorite to direct this would be Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield). With August's possible involvement I wouldn't rule out Tim Burton directing.

Peter Stormare Joins Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

Deadline reports that Swedish actor Peter Stormare has joined Tommy Wirkola's (Dead Snow) Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Stormare is an amazing character actor with memorable roles in films like The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Jurassic Park: Lost World, Bad Boys 2, Constantine, Dancer In The Dark, Minority Report and 8MM. He also had a stint in the world of fairy tale based films with Terry Gilliam's Brothers Grimm. Peter will play a villainous town sheriff named Berringer. The stellar cast already includes Jeremy Renner (Town, Hurt Locker), Gemma Arterton (Alice Creed, Quantum of Solace), Famke Janssen (Rounders, X-Men 1-3) and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal.

Emily Blunt Explains Why She's Never Been In A Superhero Film

Emily Blunt was famously ousted as Black Widow in Iron Man 2 because of her contract with 20th Century Fox and had to give up the role. Even then she tested for a role in Captain America that would later go to Hayley Atwell. Blunt had also been rumored for a role in The Dark Knight Rises. Now Collider was able to ask her if she'd ever want to be in a superhero film and her answer is mixed.

A new horror sci-fi film in the same "Handy Cam POV" genre as Cloverfield, Quarantine and Paranormal Activity. Apollo 18 follows two Astronauts on a top secret recon mission to the moon. While researching they begin to experience unexplained malfunctions and communication losses. Further investigating their mysterious complications they venture outside of the ship and encounter alien creatures.

Ingrid Bolsø Berdal Joins Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

BloodyDisgusting reports that Norwegian actress Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Cold Prey) has joined Tommy Wirkola's (Dead Snow) Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Ingrid will play one of the witches who is a "superbad killing machine". Famke Janssen will play the leader of the witches while Jeremy Renner is Hansel and Gemma Arterton is Gretel.

TRAILER: Bad Teacher

D.J. Caruso Will Direct Preacher

HeatVision confirms that D.J. Caruso will direct the adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic Preacher. Sam Mendes had been attached but left the project to direct Bond 23. Caruso seems an odd choice as he's only directed PG-13 action films and nothing he's done is on the level of Mendes' work. The film focuses on a possessed Texas Preacher who teams up with an Ex-girlfriend and alcoholic Irish vampire to find God. Holding God accountable for abandoning his responsibilities.

A Preacher film would need be a hard-R similar to Watchmen to work properly and it's unknown if Sony is willing to go that route. I've never read the comic so I don't know what to think of his involvement. Yet it seems like Sony should have gone with more of an auteur filmmaker. I'll give Caruso some credit, he's been trying very hard to get a Y The Last Man film into theaters for years.

David O'Russell Might Direct Cocaine Cowboys

ThePlaylist reports that David O'Russell (Fighter, Uncharted) could end up directing the long in development film Cocaine Cowboys. Mark Wahlberg has been producing the project for years and could star.  Leonardo DiCaprio was previously rumored to be involved with the project but nothing was confirmed. I'd love to see DiCaprio and Wahlberg in the leads.

The true life story inspired both Miami Vice and Scarface. "In the 1980s, ruthless Colombian cocaine barons invaded Miami with a brand of violence unseen in this country since Prohibition-era Chicago - and it put the city on the map. "Cocaine Cowboys" is the true story of how Miami became the drug, murder and cash capital of the United States, told by the people who made it all happen." The film will focus on the infamous American drug trafficers Jon Roberts and Micky Munday. Peter Berg (Hancock) had been attached previously to direct but has focused on Battleship instead.

Kevin Costner To Join Superman?

Deadline revealed this morning that Kevin Costner could join Zack Snyder's Superman. Now LatinoReview is claiming the role is Jonathan Kent the adopted father of Clark Kent. There is no confirmation that this is for sure but I could see Costner in the small part.

Christopher McQuarrie Hired To Write Star Blazers

Deadline reports that Skydance Productions has hired Christopher McQuarrie (Usual Suspects) to help adapt the anime series Star Blazers into a movie. There is currently a Japanese live-action film based on the series titled Space Battleship Yamato which has been very successful. So it makes sense to move forward with an English version.

The budding production company is aligned with Paramount Pictures similar to the relationship of Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Their current projects include True Grit and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. McQuarrie has recently moved into writing genre based films working on The Wolverine for Darren Aronofsky and Jack The Giant Killer for Bryan Singer. He was also an uncredited writer on the first X-Men film.
