BOURNE 4 Gets Out Of The Way For STAR TREK 3 And Release Moves To Late July 2016

Universal has moved the Bourne 4 release date to July 29th, 2016 (via Deadline). The move is to give some breathing-space between the releases of Star Trek 3 directed by Justin Lin and the untitled fourth Jason Bourne film. Paul Greengrass is back as the director after helming the last two sequels.

Funny thing, Justin Lin was aiming to direct the Bourne Legacy sequel with Jeremy Renner but the film was put on hold when Damon returned. There is some talk that Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross could factor into the next installment, mainly to help boost that spin-off franchise.

Robert Downey Jr. Joins CAPTAIN AMERICA 3, Film Sparks The CIVIL WAR

A huge update concerning Captain America 3 has just landed, thanks to Variety. The trade is reporting that Robert Downey Jr. is in final talks to play Tony Stark in the third installment. Captain America 3 is also said to be launching-point for the epic Civil War storyline. It's unknown at this point if the whole film will be apart of Civil War, or it will setup everything to actually happen in Avengers 3. The two films will likely round-out the actors' contracts with Marvel. They also mention this will lead to a whole group of heroes who will step-up. It might be safe to say one of these films will have the subheading "Civil War".

Civil War pertains to the comic book conflict between Iron Man and Captain America, as the government forces including Stark enact Superhero Registration Act. People with powers or abilities have to agree to reveal themselves and becoming a policing force or risk imprisonment. Each hero chooses a different side with Iron Man becoming the government mouth-piece, while Captain America rounds-up his own team willing to go toe-to-toe with Stark's. It's a huge story and likely will need many more characters than are already kicking-around the MCU.

I had already noticed possible seeds to Civil War, from set images of Stark seemingly resurrecting a new form of SHIELD. Something I'm sure will piss-off Rogers in Age of Ultron. This would explain why the future films and Avengers installments would focus on other heroes. Civil War is a way to kill or retire our main lineup, without having fans freakout about it. It would also be a great time for Thanos to show-up in Avengers 3, among the chaos of Earth's heroes at each other's throats.

Captain America 3 has a release date of May 6, 2016 with production set to begin this spring.

Chad Stahelski Needs To Direct The HAWKEYE Movie!

What could Marvel's Hawkeye movie look like? Well that remains to be seen, as people have some theories of what direction Marvel should go with a spin-off. Some think parring Clint with Black Widow to explore their shared adventures in Budapest is a good idea. My personal assumption is that Hawkeye could become a major lead in a West Coast Avengers/New Avengers splinter film. We've been hearing rumblings that Marvel is considering on using another team in a feature film, but unsure what that could be (Avengers West Coast, New Avengers, Secret Wars?).

With that said, there are plenty of awesome action filmmakers making their mark in the last couple of years. Who I think could make a pretty damn fine Hawkeye movie, whatever direction Marvel takes him. One in particular I believe could make the biggest impact for a badass solo Hawkeye movie, that would be John Wick director Chad Stahelski.



Chad is a director, 2nd unit director and stunt coordinator that has been making a name for himself with his company 87 Eleven. They are responsible for some of the best stunt/action sequences in Hollywood. He even did some stunt work on Iron Man 2, so there is a tiny connection to Marvel Studios. Some of the company's stunt credits include The Crow, Point Break, The Matrix Trilogy, Spider-Man 2, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Serenity, V For Vendetta, 300, Die Hard 4, Rambo, Killer Elite, The Wolverine, Hunger Games 1-2, and Expendables 1-2.

One of the biggest concerns of Marvel fans is how to make a film compelling with a powerless hero. We don't seem to ask those questions when it comes to massively entertaining franchises like Bond or Bourne. I'm a bit curious why fans don't cut Hawkeye and Black Widow some goddamn slack. I believe there is some middle-ground where you could allow them to have some powers eventually. Barton does become both Ronin and Goliath, two alter-egos that have yet to be explored in the cinematic universe. There are plenty of stories to explore with both these characters, and Stahelski is the director to give fans a thrilling ride.

Below is the trailer for John Wick, a film which currently holds a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Along with his second unit work on movies like Hunger Games, Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Expendables 2, and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. While a script likely doesn't exist for this possible spin-off, at least we have an idea of who should bring it to life.

Jeremy Renner Game For A HAWKEYE Spin-Off Film

Another week, and another Marvel actor has changed their tune. Robert Downey Jr. flip-flopped when asked about Iron Man 4's development last week. Only to reveal that there were indeed zero plans to make it at the moment. Now while promoting his buzz-worthy film Kill The Messenger, Jeremy Renner is changing previous statements concerning a Hawkeye solo movie.

Renner had been asked about his desire to have a solo outing as Clint Barton, but was quick to point-out that his character was getting flushed-out in Age of Ultron and possibly Captain America 3. Being completely comfortable with being apart of the assemble. However, during his Reddit AMA he sounded a bit more optimistic, that's if Marvel decides to make a spin-off focusing on Mr. Barton. Here's what Jeremy had to say when asked about a Hawkeye movie (maybe West Coast Avengers?).

"Am I interested? Always have been interested. I always love Clint, and in the last Avengers: Age of Ultron, we got to dive into him some more. Very excited about the outcome of it, and where it can go in the future. But all I can do is want. And that's all I can do. It all comes down to the content, and really how the puppeteers at Marvel can manifest a story that's worthy of a solo movie. Not sure what that is, or how that is, but I'm confident they can do whatever they want, if they want to do it. And I'd be game."

Matt Damon And Paul Greengrass Will Return To Make Fourth BOURNE Installment

Universal is doubling-down on it's Bourne franchise. We've been hearing rumblings that Matt Damon could be returning to the Bourne role for a year or so. In 2013, Twitch originally reported talks between Matt and the studio to reprise the super-spy. His return is now being confirmed by Deadline. There had been chatter that Jeremy Renner and Matt Damon could share screen time in an installment, but that idea was never confirmed by the studio. LatinoReview scooped this story back in June being the reason for delays on Justin Lin's sequel, but met with nothing denials.

After the success of Bourne Ultimatum,  Matt and director Paul Greengrass tried to put together a fourth film. This pitch didn't go-over well at Universal, as they rejected it. The two went-off to make Iraq-War thriller Green Zone instead, and Greengrass earned some acclaim for Captain Philips. Universal, unfazed by this move put forward a reboot of sorts with Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross in Bourne Legacy. While the film was set within the same Bourne universe, it failed to make a huge impact with audiences. A sequel was still put into motion with Justin Lin (Fast and Furious, Fast Five) set to direct and a very busy Renner attached to star. The new report suggests that Renner's sequel might be put on-hold. Lin was recently linked for directing a couple of episodes of True Detective for HBO, this delay could allow him time to make that commitment.

The Bourne Legacy sequel which was being aimed for a July 16th, 2016 release date. However, it seems like the Damon flick will try to take that spot instead. There is some doubt when Renner's spin-off will shoot, as the project is still in development. Matt is about to begin production on the Ridley Scott science fiction film The Martian, so they'll have some time to get that script ready for production.

Sean Harris Could Be The Villain Of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5!

The production for Mission: Impossible 5 is already somewhat underway, but it hasn't cast an actor to play it's villain. Deadline reports that British character actor Sean Harris (Red Riding Trilogy, Prometheus, Harry Brown) is in early talks to take that role. Harris is an extremely talented actor, and this project would likely help launch him into bigger Hollywood roles.

The rest of the cast includes newcomers Alec Baldwin and Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson. Returning for the sequel are franchise players Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paul Patton, and finally back on the team is Ving Rhames. It's being directed by Christopher McQuarrie with a script written by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3, Sherlock Holmes 3) . A release date is set for Christmas Day, 2015.

Robert Downey Jr Weighs-In On BLACK WIDOW, HAWKEYE And HULK Movies

Robert Downey Jr. is in a cool position, as he's signed-on to reprise the role of Tony Stark one more time in Avengers 3. The third installment isn't due until 2018-2019. Meaning, the elder statesman of the Marvel cinematic universe isn't going anywhere for some time. Allowing him to be outspoken about Marvel chatter concerning rumors and future projects. Speaking to USAToday, Robert did just that addressing Marvel's delay in announcing a Black Widow spin-off film.

The delay has sparked a bit of criticism, not having a female superhero officially announced as part of Marvel's future releases. Even more so, in the wake of the female Spider-Man spin-off at Sony and unofficially Warner Bros. solo Wonder Woman movie. Robert simply states the obvious and rational question, "doesn't Scarlett deserve a break?"

“Look, I think that the interesting thing particularly after [Guardians of the Galaxy] with Zoe [Saldana], even from the first Iron Man where Pepper was kind of this really – to me the Iron Man franchise would never have taken off without [Gwyneth] Paltrow. There’s something about her that grounded the story. She’s not your typical lady in a superhero movie, and then by Iron Man 3 she’s swallowing serums and putting on suits and kicking [butt] and all that stuff. It would be kind of more appropriate for a character that already was like a Black Widow [to lead a movie]. It just seems like whatever Scarlett does people want to go see it.” 

He makes some valid-points. Scarlett has played Black Widow in four movies, and could be expected to be apart of future projects. We all understand the demand for her own solo adventure. But it's really up to her when she wants to go back to making films, as a new mother. I think we can all respect that, even if it might delay production on a solo outing for a couple of years.

Oddly enough, Robert continues the discussion by pondering solo movies for both Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). The latter we've been hearing for sometime development on a new Hulk film, going back to 2012. Indestructible Hulk and Planet Hulk story theories have been circling for a couple of years. Ruffalo and Joss Whedon teased in Avengers press tour, that two could work together on developing a new film (Whedon possibly writing the script).

“The funny thing is honestly at this point everyone deserves a franchise. I think Jeremy Renner is — when folks see the Avengers: Age of Ultron he’s just a rockstar, a badass. And Ruffalo is pumped. He does great (work). I’d like to hear them talk even more seriously about a Hulk franchise, because that’s been one of the toughest ones to get right. But I’m sure that my parent company is feeling expansive and and bold after the summer they’ve had.”

Again, we hear from RDJ how impressive Jeremy's role in Avengers: Age of Ultron will be, hyping-up the character even more. It's possible Clint Barton could have an equally strong role in Captain America 3 as well. Originally, filmmakers wanted and wrote Barton into The Winter Soldier. Renner had to decline due to other projects. I've been under the impression that Renner could lead a West Coast Avengers film. That's if Marvel indeed plans on splinting the main group into two teams. Which is already rumored for Age of Ultron, leading up to the events of Civil War. Finally, giving Hawkeye more of a main character role than previous movies.

SPECULATION: Marvel Studios Quietly Setting-Up AVENGERS WEST COAST?

Marvel has become the leader in finding new concepts and angles for the superhero film genre. It's a hard business to be in, but they've found their niche and it's not being predictable. The studio has taken some massive risks over their 10 film career. Mainly, releasing a film like Iron Man when a majority of the public had zero awareness or knowledge the character even existed. They took that success from Iron Man and ran full force. Releasing four more films, before making the giant-leap to an ultimate team-up film The Avengers. They went as far as tearing-down SHIELD in Captain America: The Winter Soldier to give us real stakes and prove nothing is safe in the MCU.

In Guardians of The Galaxy, the studio's most risky and ambitious project to date, they gave us our first real glimpse into the massive Marvel cosmic universe. Proving again, that even a talking tree and raccoon can be compelling if done right. The group of characters are way more obscure than previous characters explored on screen, the film becoming the biggest domestic hit of the summer is something of a miracle.

So, how does Marvel move forward without becoming stale? Shaking things-up is what seemingly the studio does best. The comics have a time-honored tradition of roster changes, guest-appearances and crossovers. We do expect The Guardians to cross-paths with The Avengers at some point in the films. However, what can we expect for our Earthbound heroes?

My theory isn't a new one, UnleashTheFanboy have already clued-in to the possibility of a second Avengers team coming in the future. UTF seemingly had word it will happen in Phase 4 (post-Avengers 3). I'm in the belief this has already been happening in-front of our eyes and Age of Ultron/Phase 3 will ultimately setup this new group. The team is being called The New Avengers by UTF, but I would bet that it ends-up being called the more established Avengers West Coast.

Ant-Man will be our first film in Phase Three, and convently enough includes two members of Avengers West Coast. Doctor Henry Pym, the mentor figure to Paul Rudd's Scott Lang and father to Evangeline Lily's Hope Van Dyne (likely Wasp). It's location of San Francisco is a bit telling as well, since we haven't really seen films other than Iron Man set in California. The second team's base of operations is L.A., but could be reworked to fit the more colorful city by the bay.

Another big clue, is that a majority of the team roster is pretty-much established, and there are enough actors to fill a new team. A bulk of them will be appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron. That lineup includes team-leader Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Doctor Henry Pym (Michael Douglas), Vision (Paul Bettany), Wasp (Evangeline Lily), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Quicksilver (Aaron Johnson) and newly added heroine Mockingbird (Adrianne Palicki former Gamora candidate).

Pym in particular could become the Nick Fury/Stark of the new team, since we might be seeing his origins with SHIELD explored in Ant-Man. Having Pym heading-up Avengers West Coast (like Nick Fury) with Hawkeye/Captain America leading the team could be a very cool way to go about it. We've heard rumblings that RDJ's role as Stark in MCU would eventually become more Fury-like as well.

Joss Whedon has talked about his destain for Wonder Man and wish to include Tigra into the film universe. These characters are also well-known West Coast Avengers heroes. He's changed his tune already concerning Carol Danvers, maybe he'll come-around concerning Wonder Man.

Another West Coaster we all love and are dying to see show-up is the complex supernatural vigliante Moon Knight, who just happens to live multiple personas (besides his superhero one). A TV show was in development for ages, but couldn't come together. The character might be a bit too dark and violent to get his own movie, but we've been rooting for Moon Knight to become apart of the second wave of Netflix's Marvel series (aka Midnight Sons).

What happens when these Avengers leave for California? Others will take their place of course. Characters like Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Doctor Strange (?), Black Panther (?), Ms Marvel (?) and others getting their own solo adventures on screen (Daredevil, Fist, Cage, Jones) could easily fill the gaps moving forward. Marvel could expand their Earthbound heroes doing it this way, and can interchange the lineups. This is where we might also see a rebranding of the Avengers name aka The New Avengers.

Why setup a second Avengers team? Well, the Civil War storyline has been mentioned before as a possibility by Kevin Feige. The storyline was slightly teased with the forest-fight in the film first. However, for it to even happen you'd need to established two groups, before the clash could start. That is a lot of Marvel characters to introduce and explore. Netflix characters like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage could also come into play here (there have been possible hints they could make the jump to movies). Civil War could also be the entry-point for Thanos, and his minions to invade Earth, perfect timing for the Mad Titan.

A set photo from Age of Ultron seemingly reveals that Stark and Rogers are recruiting candidates. Perhaps, developing a new version of SHIELD together (HAMMER/SWORD?). The extras are unlikely Ultron bot stand-ins, mainly because they aren't wearing motion-capture suits. But, more like warm-up/active wear, I assume Rogers is training them.

Having Hawkeye taking-charge of his own team might sound like something out of left-field, but we've been hearing his role in Age of Ultron is getting bulked-up from the last one. Not to mention Jeremy Renner's own teases he'll show-up in Captain America 3. If Marvel is able to develop Clint Barton into a capable leader of a splinter Avengers team, I think they might be unstoppable. Turning-around public opinion of the least-liked team member, would be a giant leap-forward.

Renner himself is an established action star, he is about to begin shooting Mission: Impossible 5 and his sequel to Bourne Legacy. Having him in a more active-role in the MCU sounds like a no-brainer. We've seen what the Russo Brothers can do for these action-based spy characters, so hopefully they're able to amp-up the character to the point we want to see him lead a film (even if it's not a solo one). We also haven't seen his other superhero personas come into play, since Barton has become alternate heroes in the comics (mainly, Goliath and Ronin).

RUMOR: Matt Damon Teaming-Up With Jeremy Renner For BOURNE 5?

Sometimes when a rumor is too good and extremely likely, it has a very hard time going away. We've been hearing for years that Matt Damon has been considering returning to Universal's Bourne franchise. There were even rumblings that Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross could be paired-up with Bourne in future films. Well that talk has resurfaced, and it's coming from a very creditable source.

LatinoReview is reporting that the reason Universal has delayed Justin Lin's (Fast And Furious 6) Bourne 5, is to include Matt Damon in the film. THR reported the fifth installment was originally set for August 14th, 2015, the film is being delayed and is now being released on July 15th, 2016. LR believes this new delay is to allow Damon join the production.

It's not surprising since Bourne Legacy didn't set the world on fire, and Matt's last few movies haven't done too well at the box office. Damon returning to the series that allowed him to make the jump to the world of action films, might be just what he needs to reenergize himself. I doubt that Renner will be stepping-aside, since he's about to take a big role in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

FIRST LOOK! Elizabeth Olsen And Aaron Johnson On Set For AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON In Italy (Doubling For Eastern Europe)

First unit is finally shooting in Italy for Avengers: Age of Ultron, as we get our first glimpses of the actors in costume. The high volume of photos are making the rounds Twitter and blogs-alike (JustJared). We see Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye (sans SHIELD patch) along with our first looks at Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Aaron Johnson as Quicksilver.

A stand-in for Ultron or his horde of bots also showed-up on set, but isn't a great representing the final look of the deadly robots. Since they're CGI characters and won't actually be shown in-camera with actors during set shoots. The Italian set is actually doubling for a Eastern European country, likely Serbia or the fictional country Transia.

David O'Russell's AMERICAN HUSTLE Coming In December And Set Photos Reveal Stunning Costume Design

Finally David O'Russell's (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook) next film has been given an official title which is now American Hustle (formerly American Bullshit) according to ScreenRant. The film is likely going to get an Oscar push around it's festival run and it's eventual release on December 13th of this year. It's based on the true events of the ABSCAM scandal.  An FBI sting operation in the late 70s and ’80s  set up by a con artist (Christian Bale) and his partner (Amy Adams). Resulting in several well known members of Congress being exposed for corruption. The cast is beyond stellar with Bale, Adams, Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Pena,  Jack Huston, Louis C.K. and Dawn Olivieri.

Remake Of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Back On Track With Producer Joel Silver, Will Gerard Butler Reconsider Taking The Lead?

Looks like the remake of John Carpenter's Escape From New York is getting new life thanks to producer Joel Silver (Lethal Weapon, Predator, The Matrix, Die Hard, 48 Hours, Commando, ) and his Silver Pictures (who are teaming up with Studio Canal) according to Deadline. Joel is no stranger to the action genre and has a solid track record. New Line Cinema had been trying to put together a reboot with producer Neal Moritz (Total Recall 2012) and Breck Eisner (The Crazies) attached to direct. Actors such as Tom Hardy (Inception, Mad Max Fury Road, Dark Knight Rises), Jeremy Renner (The Town, Avengers, Hurt Locker) and Gerard Butler (300, Olympus Has Fallen) had been in the mix for Snake Plissken but the project ultimtely went into limbo. New Line lost the rights which allowed Silver Pictures to pickup the film's rights. Joel is looking to reboot the entire franchise, starting with an origin story for Snake which will lead to a trilogy. This gives the impression we might see a fresh take on the material along with learning how Plissken went from war hero to the most notorious convict. They are currently on a search for writers and a director will likely soon follow that announcement.

It won't be hard to imagine Joel trying to wrangle the linked actors back into talks. Hardy has attached himself to a number of projects (Splinter Cell, Child 44, Animal Rescue) and already has his budding Mad Max franchise which get a fasted-tracked sequel, it's unlikely he'll be considered this round. Renner might also have issues as sequels to Avengers, Bourne Legacy, Mission Impossible and Witch Hunters are in the works. Out of the original three I see Butler ending up with the role. His upcoming film Olympus Has Fallen is in the same ballpark and could prove he's ready to carry an action franchise on his shoulders. Silver produced RockNRolla which starred Gerard and was directed by Guy Ritchie (Joel also produces Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes franchise).

Liam Neeson's name has been mentioned for the role (Silver has produced Neeson's Unknown and the upcoming Non-Stop). However, if the trilogy talk is true they might looking for a younger actor that will be able to commit to three films. I could see others such as Chris Hemsworth and Jai Courtney in the mix for the role as well.

Antonie Fuqua's Boxing Pic SOUTHPAW Resurrected With Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper And Jeremy Renner In The Mix

ShadowAndAct spoke to director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen) about his recently resurrected boxing drama Southpaw written by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. The MGM/Sony project was picked up by The Weinstien Company, who seem to be aiming to put some serious acting talent behind it. At one point Eminem (8 Mile) was attached to star but it seems like the studio is looking at bigger names. Fuqua mentions that he's spoken to actors such as Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling and Jeremy Renner for the film. It could be a possible Oscar vehicle for it's cast and director.

Universal Is Moving Forward With BOURNE LEGACY Sequel, Eran Creevy Needs To Direct It

It's looking like that the Bourne Legacy might move on without Matt Damon afterall. Universal has announced to THR they are pursuing a sequel that would have Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross in the lead. The film wasn't the greatest in the franchise but was $12m shy of Bourne Supremacy's worldwide box office. Not too bad all things considering but are also open to having Matt Damon return as well. There had been talk previously that this next film could have both Renner and Damon in the same film.

I think there are many viable stories to tell with the Bourne franchise but they need to find another writer and director. Tony Gilroy tried his best but the action was lukewarm and the characters were poorly mapped out. I feel like someone like Eran Creevy (Welcome To The Punch) could write and direct the hell out of this material. Creevy could be the next Guy Ritchie or Matthew Vaughn and Universal would be smart to sign him up for this project.

Jennifer Lawrence Joins David O'Russell's Next Film

Deadline reports that Jennifer Lawrence (Winter Bone) will reunite with Silver Linings Playbook director David O'Russell and co-star Bradley Cooper for David's untitled project. The cast for the 70's era Abscam film (originally titled American Bullshit) is amazing so far with Christian Bale, Cooper, Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner set to star. Louis C.K. is also in talks for a role as well. This will be the third film Lawrence and Cooper have worked on together in the last couple of years.

THR reports that comedian Louis C.K. is in talks to take an unnamed role in in David O. Russell's (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook) next movie. The project formerly known as American Bullshit already stars Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner. Based on a true story the period drama focuses on a con-man (Bale) and his wife (Adams) while being pursued by the F.B.I (Cooper).

Russo Brothers To Direct 'CAPTAIN AMERICA 2'

ShowBlitz reports that The Russo Brothers are in final talks to direct Captain America 2 which starts production in January and is set for an April 14th 2014 release date. They're best known for their comedic work on projects like Community, Arrested Development, Happy Endings, Welcome To Collingwood and You, Me And Dupree. It will an interesting directing duo for sure as we've seen some excellent sibling directing teams in the past with The Wachowskis and The Hughes Brothers. I assume that the pair will also include some humorous rewrites to the script from Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

We currently don't have a synopsis for the film but it's been confirmed it will take place directly after the events of The Avengers. Seeing Steve become a full-fledged agent of SHIELD and his missions with them. It's expected that Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill) will be along for the ride. No word on if Winter Soldier will be involved but Kevin Feige has teased Cap's present day partner The Falcon is a possibility.
