Chad Stahelski Needs To Direct The HAWKEYE Movie!

What could Marvel's Hawkeye movie look like? Well that remains to be seen, as people have some theories of what direction Marvel should go with a spin-off. Some think parring Clint with Black Widow to explore their shared adventures in Budapest is a good idea. My personal assumption is that Hawkeye could become a major lead in a West Coast Avengers/New Avengers splinter film. We've been hearing rumblings that Marvel is considering on using another team in a feature film, but unsure what that could be (Avengers West Coast, New Avengers, Secret Wars?).

With that said, there are plenty of awesome action filmmakers making their mark in the last couple of years. Who I think could make a pretty damn fine Hawkeye movie, whatever direction Marvel takes him. One in particular I believe could make the biggest impact for a badass solo Hawkeye movie, that would be John Wick director Chad Stahelski.



Chad is a director, 2nd unit director and stunt coordinator that has been making a name for himself with his company 87 Eleven. They are responsible for some of the best stunt/action sequences in Hollywood. He even did some stunt work on Iron Man 2, so there is a tiny connection to Marvel Studios. Some of the company's stunt credits include The Crow, Point Break, The Matrix Trilogy, Spider-Man 2, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Serenity, V For Vendetta, 300, Die Hard 4, Rambo, Killer Elite, The Wolverine, Hunger Games 1-2, and Expendables 1-2.

One of the biggest concerns of Marvel fans is how to make a film compelling with a powerless hero. We don't seem to ask those questions when it comes to massively entertaining franchises like Bond or Bourne. I'm a bit curious why fans don't cut Hawkeye and Black Widow some goddamn slack. I believe there is some middle-ground where you could allow them to have some powers eventually. Barton does become both Ronin and Goliath, two alter-egos that have yet to be explored in the cinematic universe. There are plenty of stories to explore with both these characters, and Stahelski is the director to give fans a thrilling ride.

Below is the trailer for John Wick, a film which currently holds a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Along with his second unit work on movies like Hunger Games, Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Expendables 2, and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. While a script likely doesn't exist for this possible spin-off, at least we have an idea of who should bring it to life.

Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey And Tao Okamoto Join BATMAN VS SUPERMAN

While their characters are unknown, Deadline reports that Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, 300: Rise of An Empire) and Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) have joined the cast of Batman Vs Superman. The trio will join Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons. The film is still set to go head-to-head against Captain America 3 on May 6th, 2016.

New Trailers And Poster For X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Fox is full-steam-ahead for their promotion of X-Men: Days of Future Past. The studio has released a bunch of trailers (Domestic and Japanese), the first TV spot and finally a decent poster (even if it's a photoshop nightmare). More of the plot is revealed in the TV spot than the two trailers, and we also get to see Quicksilver in action.

Fox Looking At Daniel Espinosa To Direct Michael Fassbender In ASSASSIN'S CREED?

TwitchFilm reports that 20th Century Fox is considering Swedish director Daniel Espinosa to direct their live-action Assassin's Creed film, which has Michael Fassbender attached to star and produce. The film's script (originally penned by Michael Lesslie) is undergoing rewrites by Scott Frank, best known for writing scripts such as Minority Report, Out of Sight, The Lookout, Get Shorty and The Wolverine. Creed has a set release date of August 7th, 2015 with an expectation to begin production sometime in 2014.

Daniel has a history of making action-packed thrillers such as Snabba Cash and Safe House, his next film Child 44 starring Tom Hardy is a Soviet Union era serial killer mystery. This wouldn't be the first time Daniel Espinosa was on the radar at Fox for a genre project, he was once in the running to direct both X-Men First Class and The Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman Might Have Put On Logan's Classic Cowl Costume In THE WOLVERINE?

The above image isn't some fan creation or cosplay. It's a legit unused costume created for The Wolverine which didn't make the film. MovieWeb was able to get ahold of the image of Wolverine's classic cowl costume which never made it into the films. Legacy Effect's costume designer Adam Ross who worked on Iron Man 3, Robocop, Oblivion and Pacific Rim put this design together using a 3D printer. I actually love this look and hope that Fox eventually does use this and would be a perfect tactical uniform for Jeff Wadlow's X-Force (if Jackaman is apart of the lineup). Also, this seems to have a similar look to the future costumes (Warpath) from the leaked Days of Future Past footage.

WOLVERINE Director James Mangold Open To Making A Sequel, Could We See Omega Red?

James Mangold's Wolverine is easily the best take we've seen on Logan and it's not surprising he's interested in making another one. He tells Yahoo! about what would be needed to be put into place for that to happen. A new colorful location similar to Japan might be reason for James to return. Here's hoping Fox does the right thing, putting this sequel together before both Mangold and Jackman walk from the franchise.

"If it presented me with the opportunity as this one did then yes. What I mean is the location and the world in Japan really presented me with a unique set of freedoms. Certainly any project with Hugh is enticing, but if someone came to me, or I came up with a strategy that stays as inventive and as exciting, I wouldn’t hesitate to do another one. " 

I have to imagine a location not really explored in depth within the X-Men universe is a modern Russia. Yes, we saw a Cold War era Russia in First Class and even some mutants. Mangold took a lot of influence from Japanese cinema and even previous films set there. There are plenty of Russian influence cinema that could help move the film forward such as Eastern Promises, Enemy At The Gates and Doctor Zhivago to name a few. Maybe not just Russia, having Wolverine travel throughout Europe and Eastern Europe could be visually different than previous X-Men films as well.

One of Logan's biggest and well known villains is also Russian. Arkady Rossovich better known as Omega Red has yet to grace the X-Men Cinematic Universe. The serial killer was chosen as a human test subject for the KGB's own failed super soldier program. He eventually becomes a cyborg vampire and a massive problem that needs to be dealt with. He has ties to both Hydra and the Russian mob so it wouldn't be hard to adapt him for the film or even change his origin.

Viper (a Hungarian member of Hydra with the name of Ophelia Sarkissian) could easily have connections to Rossovich. A few hints were given in The Wolverine. Mainly, being a blond rather than having her iconic dark hair. I assume this change was to connect her to the blond villain (her brother or father?). The robotics used in the film and Viper's genetics background could also be a precursor to Arkady becoming Omega Red. It's possible Viper was trying to get a hold of Logan's healing factor for Arkady too, who possesses a similar power. Fox could have also made the drastic changes due to the rights issues surrounding Madame Hydra/Ophelia Sarkissian (best known as a Captain America villain). They might have only had use to the costume and the codename Viper.

Omega Red has actually been hinted to previously in X2 when a file with the same name was shown on one of computers at Stryker's compound.

An actor who I'd love to see take the role is Daniel Craig. We really haven't seen him within the superhero genre, not counting his role as the iconic James Bond. Daniel is actually quite the solid villain and proved this in The Road To Perdition. He has also played a Russian before in the WWII action drama Defiance alongside Liev Schreiber who played Sabertooth (the best aspect of Origins) previously. Daniel even has a few lines in Russian which were convincing enough and could make him a huge draw for audiences. Craig also has connections to First Class director Matthew Vaughn (currently producing Fantastic Four for Fox), who gave Craig his big shot in Layer Cake (where he even pretended to be Bond in a funny scene). That role led to Daniel landing the Bond gig and a majority of his success. Not to mention that Hugh Jackman and Daniel are friends also working together on the play A Steady Rain.

Hugh Jackman Ending His Run As WOLVERINE?

Hugh Jackman broke out to international audiences thanks to his role as Wolverine in 2000's X-Men. He has played the role six times by next Summer and is rumored he could show up in Avengers 2, if Fox/Marvel do end up playing nice (which has been alluded to for months). Some are curiously debating the end of Robert Downey Jr's run as Tony Stark/Iron Man but is Hugh Jackman also ready to give someone else the part? In a brief interview with EW Jackman comments a bit of future rolls which sounds a bit like both films have to be major successes (fan demand to see more). Being a bit upset over the fan/audience backlash over Origins which almost everyone disliked.

The site does tease Wolverine being in Avengers 2 but nothing more than a chance is mentioned. It's ultimately up to the producers and Fox to allowing the crossover. Lauren Shuler Donner the main producer of the X-Men franchise has stated previously she'd love to see the X-Men in the Avengers sequels. Marvel and Fox are already likely sharing Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in X-Men Days of Future Past and Avengers 2, so having Wolverine in the mix doesn't seem that bad of an idea. This would ultimately help their brand similar to how Avengers boosted the audience turnout for Iron Man 3. Fingers crossed Sony does the same thing before selling the Spidey rights. Rumblings that the studio side of Sony isn't doing well and likely having to liquidize franchise assets like Spider-Man and Resident Evil is on the table apparently. Wouldn't take much to convince Disney to buy them up for the MCU.

James Mangold's Wolverine "looks" good but ultimately we won't know until July if it will match the intreging trailer. Speaking on the future of Wolverine, it's unknown if X-Men Days of Future Past is exactly X-Men 4, a First Class sequel or combination is still up in the air. However, it's events could lead to sorting out the two X-Men worlds and allowing some future storylines not yet explored. Giving Singer and Fox some leway in having both the period piece franchise (more First Class era films) and the present day/future teams (X-Men 4, New Mutants, X-Force). Wolverine still has some interesting solo adventures to explore but Jackman was quite set on telling the Japanese saga since Origins. The fan demand will likely keep him on for a couple more but he very well might just move on and focus on other passion projects. I sort of saw this coming considering Jackman pretty much jumped right back into the character only a few months after wrapping Wolverine to reprise in the role in Days of Future Past. I doubt there a many actors that can overshadow Hugh's performances but I'm sure there is someone out there right for the role.

 If I had to choose one up and coming actor to takeover the role I'd go for Richard Armitage (Hobbit, Strike Back). He's already dipped his toes in the MCU playing a villain in Captain America: The First Avenger and seems to love action driven projects.
