Marvel Casts KICK-ASS Actress Lyndsy Fonesca For AGENT CARTER

Marvel has announced another film to television addition to their growing Agent Carter cast. They've added Kick-Ass and Hot Tub Time Machine actress Lyndsy Fonesca to the main lineup as Angie Martinelli. Fonesca is no stranger to holding a weapon being apart of the action series Nikita. The show is actually casting many actors from the movies, which is sort of smart on their part. Considering what happened with Agents of SHEILD getting unknowns for roles didn't exactly help ratings. It's nice to see Marvel hiring another actress with action and weapons experience. However, she'll be playing a waitress and aspiring actress.

Robert Downey Jr. Joins CAPTAIN AMERICA 3, Film Sparks The CIVIL WAR

A huge update concerning Captain America 3 has just landed, thanks to Variety. The trade is reporting that Robert Downey Jr. is in final talks to play Tony Stark in the third installment. Captain America 3 is also said to be launching-point for the epic Civil War storyline. It's unknown at this point if the whole film will be apart of Civil War, or it will setup everything to actually happen in Avengers 3. The two films will likely round-out the actors' contracts with Marvel. They also mention this will lead to a whole group of heroes who will step-up. It might be safe to say one of these films will have the subheading "Civil War".

Civil War pertains to the comic book conflict between Iron Man and Captain America, as the government forces including Stark enact Superhero Registration Act. People with powers or abilities have to agree to reveal themselves and becoming a policing force or risk imprisonment. Each hero chooses a different side with Iron Man becoming the government mouth-piece, while Captain America rounds-up his own team willing to go toe-to-toe with Stark's. It's a huge story and likely will need many more characters than are already kicking-around the MCU.

I had already noticed possible seeds to Civil War, from set images of Stark seemingly resurrecting a new form of SHIELD. Something I'm sure will piss-off Rogers in Age of Ultron. This would explain why the future films and Avengers installments would focus on other heroes. Civil War is a way to kill or retire our main lineup, without having fans freakout about it. It would also be a great time for Thanos to show-up in Avengers 3, among the chaos of Earth's heroes at each other's throats.

Captain America 3 has a release date of May 6, 2016 with production set to begin this spring.

Villains And Other Things I Want To See In CAPTAIN AMERICA 3!

Production is about to begin on untitled Captain America 3 in April, and a draft of the script is already in the hands of the directing-duo The Russo Brothers. The two have giving hints to what expect from the third installment, while keeping tight-lipped as part of the usual business of working for Marvel Studios. I have a few ideas of who the villains should be, and a bit of the direction of the film.


VILLAINS!

Let's get this out of the way first, the Russo Brothers have all but confirmed the return of Rumlow (Crossbones) and Bucky (Winter Soldier), so their inclusion won't be much of a surprise. We keep hearing an odd fan-demand to bring back The Red Skull, I'm actually shocked considering how many more rogues Rogers has in the waiting.

We already know that Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker will be making his screen debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron. What I can only assume will reveal a stronger HYDRA presence worldwide, and Captain America's futile hunt-down all the cells. I would love to see Strucker in the next film, but there are a few others that also deserve a shot at Rogers.

One villain I've been dying to jump into this franchise is Baron Zemo, both Heinrich and Helmunt. A piece of Winter Soldier concept teases the lineage, which used the mission codename Operation: Zemo. This was apart of one of the museum exhibits of Rogers' WWII exploits with The Howling Commandos. Something that could used in a flashback scene, setting-up Heinrich as the staunch supporter of HYDRA. While his son Helmunt is conflicted and less committed to the cause, leading him to possibly switch-sides. We know that James Gunn (Guardians of The Galaxy) has been pitching Marvel a Thunderbolts movie, and Zemo is a funding member of that team.

Baron Strucker's right-hand woman Ophelia Sarkissian (Madame Hydra) should obviously make an appearance, considering we really haven't seen any mainstream female villains in the Earthbound Marvel films. She's quite the piece-of-work, and could even have ties to Black Widow's dark and bloody past. A relentless female villain set within this franchise would be worthwhile, and I know the Russo Brothers could extensively beef-up her character to that on the level of Zemo, or Strucker.

Her Viper persona was up-for-grabs when Fox made The Wolverine, because of her inclusion in X-Men comics. Fox made her a mutant and basically never mentioned her as being a terrorist. However, her HYDRA roots, her image and actual name are at Marvel, so they can use her in the films if they have the desire to. Marvel included Strucker and Madame Hydra in their video game (Captain America: Super Soldier) tie-in for The First Avenger.

Doctor Faustus seems like a no-brainer, if Marvel decides to pursue Bucky's origin as brainwashed assassin for HYDRA.

RANDOM IDEAS!

An interesting ally from the past could possibly Joseph Chapman, better known as the modern era version of Union Jack. We know that the character exists in the cinematic universe, thanks to an Easter Egg in Iron Man 2. The British hero is racing alongside Tony Stark at the Grand Prix, and is listed among the drivers. One of the funding members of The Howling Commandos, would be Chapman's mentor James Falsworth. Who fought alongside Rogers during a majority of his WWII missions. Like Sharon, bringing-in someone like Union Jack could be an interesting nod to his past.

The locations have been a bit lacking for such a globetrotting character, but we understood that Winter Soldier was meant to be more of a personal American-set story of corruption. If HYDRA is back we need an even grander base of operations. One location from the comics could be extremely extravagant, that being the New Zealand mountain-face Gehenna. This stunning HYDRA base would allow for some arresting moments of sheer beauty, possibly lending itself to some very unique action sequences.

Steve Rogers needs to pass-on the mantle to either Bucky Barnes or Sam Wilson. Chris Evans' contract is almost over, and we suspect that like in the comics, we'll see another hero become Captain America.

CASTING SUGGESTIONS

Marvel Studios has their own way of casting the supporting characters, including their villains, but have listened to fans on a few occasions (placing Benedict Cumberbatch on their wish-list for Doctor Strange). However, I'm still standing-behind Mads Mikkelson (Pusher 2, Hannibal, The Hunt, King Arthur, Valhalla Rising,  Royal Affair) for Baron Helmut Zemo, Eva Green (300 Rise of An Empire, Kingdom of Heaven, Sin City 2, Casino Royale, Penny Dreadful) for Ophelia, Brendan Gleeson (The Guard, Gangs of New York, Braveheart, In Bruges, Calvary) for Doctor Faustus and Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, The Guest) for Joseph Chapman (Union Jack).

CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 To Begin Production In April And Title Reveal Coming Soon

While speaking with Collider the director siblings the Russo Brothers talked about Captain America 3, it's production returning to the States for an April start. However, the stage work will now be done in Atlanta, Georgia. Presumably on the new Pinewood Studios stage, where Ant-Man is currently shooting. This move is an interesting one, not only does the studio have a new location to film their growing number of projects. But, they will be shooting two movies at once, if Doctor Strange is still aiming for it's spring production start (confirmed by Kevin Feige). I have to assume that Scott Derrickson will be heading the UK and shoot Strange at Shepperton Studios.

The studio had been seemingly worried about having two film productions going-on at once. Possibly being too much to handle for the growing studio at the time. This has led to muted-talk of three Marvel Studios releases per-year. It's been now confirmed that starting in 2017, we'll have three Marvel Studios productions released annually. With production shoots now overlapping one-and-other, it's even possible the studio could push for four films a year. A mad notion, but considering the amount of people now involved with the studio and the production space in their hands, anything is possible.

Another tidbit was dropped by the Russo Brothers during their chat with Collider. They confirmed that the title for the third film will be announced in about a month or so. I have to assume the title is another villain reveal similar to The Winter Soldier or Age of Ultron. Considering how many unused major Cap villains haven't appeared in the film, any number of them could get top-billing. I'd hope that we'd finally get to see Baron Zemo and Madame Hydra, but I'm sure others want to see Alexander Lukin and Doctor Faustus take centre-stage in the film.

A great deal of rumblings have already started concerning the lineup of the film. The best guesses would that we'll see the return of Bucky Barnes, Brock Rumlow, Sam Wilson and Nick Fury. It's up-in-the-air if we'll see Natasha, Clint, Sharon or Maria return for the sequel. Since, it's rumored the Russos could be including T'Challa/Black Panther to the sequel, some characters might have to take a backseat.

Marvel Announces CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 Coming May 2016

Marvel has finally announced what is coming after Ant-Man, Captain America 3 will be their second Phase Three film. The second sequel will be set for release on May 6th, 2016. The spot had been claimed by Marvel almost a year ago, but that didn't stop Warner Bros. from moving Batman Vs Superman on the same date. Considering, the massive buzz surrounding The Winter Soldier (some "claim" the best Marvel film to date) it wasn't shocking the studio would choose to move forward with a third installment.

The Russo Brothers recently confirmed to Collider they've signed-on to direct Captain America 3, and are currently working on the film's outline. Also confirming, they were speaking with franchise writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, about the script. It's the only Phase Three project (besides Ant-Man), that has both writers and director/directors on board.

When it comes to who will be returning or added to the line-up that remains to be seen. Sebastian Stan recently revealed he has a nine-picture deal with Marvel, something that only was reserved for actors like Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson (I expect could be back depending on her new baby). It's possible this could mean that Bucky (villain or friend) might be showing up in Captain America 3, Avengers sequels, his own solo Winter Soldier prequels or could very well end up replacing Rogers as Captain America.

Thomas Kretschmann (playing villain Baron Wolfgang von Strucker in Avengers: Age of Ultron) also spoke about his future in the MCU. Stating he believes his character will have a place in future films. Strucker is primarily a SHIELD and Captain America villain, so having him being the main villain of Captain America 3 wouldn't be a shocker. The Baron originates the terrorist splinter group A.I.M. (first mentioned in Iron Man 3), which has ties to HYDRA. He very well could be the successor to Red Skull, and finally resurrect HYDRA in the modern age.

We could have a better idea of what to expect in the third film, after The Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron are released. I wouldn't rule out Crossbones (played by Frank Grillo), Baron Zemo (hinted to in Winter Soldier production artwork) or even Madame Hydra (Strucker's second in-command), also being apart of/introduced in the sequel.

The Russo Brothers Returning To Direct CAPTAIN AMERICA 3

Marvel's Kevin Feige had been hinting that Phase Three might only see two franchise sequels (aside from Avengers 3), it seemed that Thor 3 was one of those candidates. Variety reports that Captain America 3 could be our second one, stating that the Russo brothers who directed The Winter Soldier are expected to return. An official announcement hasn't been made but the Russos are currently working on an outline.

I would assume that franchise writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus will be back on script duties, but neither our mentioned in this report. There had been some speculation that villain Baron Wolfgang von Strucker's inclusion in Age of Ultron is expected to setup events for Captain America 3, possibly seeing the resurrection of Hydra. The talk of the town is, that Winter Soldier is better than any of the other Marvel Studios projects. I believe that Doc Strange and Thor 3 will more than likely take the 2016 slots, while Captain America 3 in 2017 could easily be the lead-up to Avengers 3 in 2018.

CAPTAIN AMERICA Writers Christopher Markus And Stephen McFeely Did Rewrites On THOR 2 Script, Plus Jaimie Alexander Comments On The Film

I must have missed this news but apparently Marvel Studios hired a few more writers to tackle rewrites on the script for Thor: The Dark World. Originally, it had been reported that Don Payne's (Thor, Simpsons) outline for the sequel was being reworked by Oscar nominated screewnwriter Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan, The Patriot). There is word that Marvel has hired some of their own in-house talent to work on the film. It's possible that Robert Rodat's work might have been excluded from the film entirely.


Christopher Yost who is best known for writing Marvel animated shows including Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Wolverine And The X-Men was brought on to work on the script. Not to mention the studio also hired Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus (Captain America: The First Avenger, Pain And Gain) to add some magic. It's unknown who did what but it sounds like the scale of the film could have been increased since McFeely and Markus seem to write big action set-pieces. A key element that was missing in the first Thor film. The screenwriting pair also recently completed the Captain America sequel Winter Soldier which is about to begin production in March.

Actress Jaimie Alexander who plays Sif in the Thor franchise is currently on a press tour for her upcoming film The Last Stand which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger. In an interview with IAmRouge she revealed a bit info on The Dark World, giving the impression the film is bigger (more realms being explored) and her character will be given more development (possible love triangle?). Jaimie also briefly comments on director Alan Taylor, new writers and the addition of Zachary Levi as Fandral. [IAmRogue]

“I just finished shooting about a week and a half ago. There's going to be a bit of a darker feel and obviously a lot more action. We get to explore different realms a lot more and you see a lot more Asgard; and you get to know the people of Asgard. There is more [character development] with Sif. We sort of explore the Thor-Sif relationship a little bit; kind of [in a romantic way]. It's more like getting a feel of who these people are, how the way they are with each other. It was really fun for me and Chris. Him and I are almost like brother and sister too, so I was like maybe that translates into 'ohh they love each other on camera.' We had a good time making that movie.” 

“That was hard at first [returning with a new director] because I didn't know what to expect. I love Kenneth Branagh very much He was a huge staple in my life because he launched my career. I gotta say, however, it is always great working with new people. Alan Taylor has brought a whole new vision to Thor. We've remained our own characters obviously, so there's still that similarity between the first and second one. But there's a darker feel to this one; a little more Gladiator-ish, a bit more viking-ish. So I'm really excited to see how it turns out.”

 “The script did [feel more rooted in the comic book stuff]. I could read certain scenes and actually see how someone would do the drawings on the page. With that sense, Marvel was great; they said 'make it your own.' We just have a great team. I have been very lucky in my career. It was slightly different [with Zachary Levi coming in], because he's not Josh Dallas, but he's fantastic. And I've know Zach for years. He was actually one of the first choices for Fandral, so it's great to have him on board. He's definitely Fandral, and he's such a lovely guy, team player and really sweet. Everybody welcomed him with open arms and he's definitely a part of the family.” 

Russo Brothers To Direct 'CAPTAIN AMERICA 2'

ShowBlitz reports that The Russo Brothers are in final talks to direct Captain America 2 which starts production in January and is set for an April 14th 2014 release date. They're best known for their comedic work on projects like Community, Arrested Development, Happy Endings, Welcome To Collingwood and You, Me And Dupree. It will an interesting directing duo for sure as we've seen some excellent sibling directing teams in the past with The Wachowskis and The Hughes Brothers. I assume that the pair will also include some humorous rewrites to the script from Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

We currently don't have a synopsis for the film but it's been confirmed it will take place directly after the events of The Avengers. Seeing Steve become a full-fledged agent of SHIELD and his missions with them. It's expected that Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill) will be along for the ride. No word on if Winter Soldier will be involved but Kevin Feige has teased Cap's present day partner The Falcon is a possibility.

F. Gary Gary Won't Be Directing 'CAPTAIN AMERICA 2'

It looks like Marvel's shortlist of ten directors for Captain America 2 is now slightly shorter.  Deadline reports that F. Gary Gary is in talks with New Line to direct Straight Outta Compton the NWA biopic which would conflict with the Cap sequel. The rest of the known directors include George Nolfi (Adjustment Bureau) and the Russo brothers best known for the NBC series Community. I'm curious to hear who the other directors in the running are because these ones don't really inspire hope for a quality sequel.

'CAPTAIN AMERICA 2' Release Date Announced

So it's official as Marvel Studios and Disney announce that Captain America 2 is set for a release on April 4th 2014. Even though that's about two years away the studio is already on the hunt for a director as Joe Johnston won't be returning. Not to mention a script is already underway from writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus. The studio also reveals the first brief synopsis which confirms that S.H.I.E.L.D. will indeed play a big part in the sequel along with it's director Nick Fury (Sam Jackson). Now that Marvel has all there sequels lined up we can finally start seeing some new heroes get their own films. Since the final May 2014 release slot has yet to be filled by an announced project.

The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to the blockbuster Captain America: The First Avenger on April 4, 2014. The second installment will pick-up where the highly anticipated Marvel’s The Avengers (May 4, 2012) leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.

Rundown Of Possible Villains And Allies For Captain America 2

Marvel Studios is currently on a search to find a director to helm Captain America 2. As ten names are in the running but only four of those have been revealed. Kevin Feige, Chris Evans and the writers have stated that the sequel could be set in the present and may also include WWII flashbacks. There have been hints to what villains we can expect for the second installment but it's sort up in the air when it comes supporting heroes. Director Joe Johnston mentioned that Marvel could be saving Winter Soldier for his own spin-off, so he could be excluded until that happens. I've come up with some ideas of what the new additions should be along with previous hints to who the villains could be. I'm hoping that Marvel is smart enough to hold off bringing back Red Skull and Zola until later on in the franchise.


CAP'S NEW TEAM MEMBERS

SHARON CARTER: The niece (grand niece more likely) of Peggy Carter, Sharon was inspired by the WWII adventures of her Aunt Peggy alongside Captain America. This lead her decide to follow a similar path into the military eventually becoming an elite SHIELD Agent. While nothing has been confirmed there is speculation that Amanda Righetti was playing this character at the end of The First Avenger. I'm sure this will be cleared up in Avengers if not there is still hope that Sharon Carter will indeed end up Cap's new love interest. Perhaps also helping fill in the blanks of what happened to Peggy.

FALCON: Sam Wilson better known as The Falcon was a protege of sorts of Cap and the two had series of team-up comics. If Cap assembles a present time team I would expect Marvel to include one of Steve's best friends. I'm not sure if his costume from the comics would translate well but it could be interesting to see him re-imagined as a fighter pilot/SHIElD Agent. I could see the sequel becoming a buddy superhero film if Falcon does show up.

CONTESSA: The SHIELD agent was one of the few actual female characters without powers in the Marvel universe that's been able to stick around for decades. Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine would eventually exit SHIELD to become the new Madame Hydra replacing Viper. It would be interesting to see one of these agents turn out to be a sleeper for HYDRA or to for her to just switch sides over jealously or money. One of my biggest problems with the Marvel films is that they rarely have more than one female heroine in their films. Avengers is going to up that with Maria Hill and Black Widow in the same movie but it's unknown how much "action" Hill will actually see. This is another character that Amanda Righetti could have playing at the end of First Avenger.

UNION JACK: Joey Chapman is the current iteration of the British legacy hero Union Jack. Joey got his own Easter Egg in Iron Man 2 as one of the drivers listed in the race, so Marvel has established he exists in the film universe. The masked hero wears a bulletproof costume, is a knife/sword expert along with exceptional training in martial arts and other weapons (guns ect). James Montgomery Falsworth of the Howling Commandos played by JJ Field was also a shout-out to Union Jack in the First Avenger. Falsworth and his family took up the Union Jack persona before passing it down to Chapman. Union Jack is also a member of The Invaders and if we don't see the return of Howling Commandos in present time (ala Infinity Formula) the Invaders could be a great replacement team name.


VILLAINS

BARON ZEMO: Zemo had been rumored since the casting of First Avenger and it was revealed by the screenwriters that he indeed was in early drafts of the script. Zemo is easily Cap's second most popular villain and needs to be front and center if he is used. If he ends up in the sequel he's costume will need some remodeling and I doubt an actor will be hidden by a mask for the whole film.

BARON STRUCKER: Strucker has a rather large presence as the contemporary head of HYDRA being it's leader continuing the villainous terrorist group started by the Red Skull. We could see HYDRA becoming a world threat again with the classic green uniforms finally being used. I have to believe that both Strucker and Madame Hydra are strong candidates because they've been used in the Super Soldier video game and the current Avengers cartoon from Disney. Baron Strucker was also in the early drafts of the First Avenger script but was ultimately removed.

MADAME HYDRA: Madame Hydra is Strucker's second in command and the leader of the HYDRA sub-group The Serpent Seven. The role has been filled by many different women including Viper and former SHIELD agent Contessa Valentina Allegro De Fontaine. It could be an interesting to see SHIELD infiltrated by HYDRA having them trying to take the group down by covert methods.

A.I.M.: Writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus have mentioned their affection for Modok who is the leader of the arms dealing terrorist group A.I.M. They even stated they wanted to include Modok in a sequel having Peter Dinklage (Games of Thrones) in the role. A.I.M. could just as easily fit in Iron Man 3 depending on the direction Marvel is going for with that. If Modok does end up in the film they'd have to make him a lot more realistic to be taken seriously as a villan.

10 Directors In The Running For Captain America 2

Well it looks like Joe Johnston's next Marvel film might actually be a Winter Soldier film as the director isn't returning for the Captain America sequel. Vulture reports that Marvel Studios is now looking at new ten directors to helm Captain America 2. Some of the candidates include F. Gary Gary, George Nolfi, Anthony and Joseph Russo which is an interesting group of directors. The latter two are best known for the NBC comedy series Community. Nolfi was a screenwriter handling films like Oceans Twelve and Bourne Ultimatum before making his directing debut with the Adjustment Bureau. F. Gary Gary has been able to handle rather large films with projects like the Italian Job, Negotiator and Law Abiding Citizen. The names of the other six directors haven't been released but I assume this could be drawn out search.

It's expected that the sequel will be released in the summer of 2014 as previously stated by Chris Evans. Currently the script is being worked on by First Avenger writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus. I think if someone like Nolfi is hired to direct he could boost the action set pieces with his own rewrites. The Russo brothers could also inject some humor into film which had some decent wisecracking moments in the first film. Marvel is an odd bunch as they could very well end up hiring a director only to replace them later on. For my money I think F. Gary Gary is solid choice as he's an excellent action director when given a good cast and script.

Neal McDonough Says Captain America 2 Shoots In 2012

While Marvel Studios seems to be tight lipped about any sort of sequel to Captain America. We've heard some rumblings previously from actors, writers and director Joe Johnston. McDonough being the most brash to state his character Dum Dum Dugan would be returning in the sequel along with a Nick Fury spin-off. Now according to a new interview with JoBlo, Neal is revealing Captain America 2's possible production start. It will be interesting to see if Marvel ends up shooting three films in 2012. This could lead to the studio ramping up productions on Ant-Man and Doctor Strange in 2013.

"Yeah, they’re planning (to go into production for) for the end of this year, because Marvel does one film at a time. So they’re going to do THOR 2 and as soon as THOR has wrapped, they’ll do CAP 2. Hopefully right after that, we’ll jump into NICK FURY because that’s the one I’m looking forward to more than anything."

What we do know is that the sequel could include more WWII flashback scenes include the return of The Howling Commandos and a 40's era Cap. Yet, the majority of the film would take place during the present day. We could see the exploration of the demise of Bucky Barnes and his resurrection by the Russians to become the KGB assassin Winter Soldier. Director Joe Johnston mentioned to ScreenRant that he'd love to make a movie about Winter Soldier. Seeing Bucky become a villain would be as complex as Loki in Thor, considering he's brainwashed into it. Johnston is expected to return as the sequel's director but there has yet to be an announcement.

“I’m not really worried about it. I told the Marvel guys that there is a character that I’m really interested in called ‘The Winter Soldier’ and that if, ‘you guys decide to make that picture I would definitely be interested.’ It’s the ‘Bucky’ Barnes story.” 


 “Just a little bit. We talked about ‘The Winter Soldier’ which is the continuation of what his story is. It’s basically that he is captured by the Russians and he’s brainwashed and turned into an assassin. But you know there are a thousand ways to go with that. I just think that it would be interesting to take a character that was in ‘Captain America’ and build a story around him. Plus, I like Sebastian Stan a lot (who played Bucky) I think he would be an interesting actor to build another feature around.”


 “Well I only signed on for two. The actors have to sign on for six, at least six, and I only sign on for two which is not to say that I wouldn’t agree to do more or that they would ask me to do more — I don’t know. But my point is that there are thousands of characters in the Marvel Universe, of which I am only familiar with a very few of them and it might be interesting to sort of go into the Marvel vault and find a character that you can develop a whole story around. I would definitely be interested in doing that.”

In early drafts of the script for the first film both Baron Zemo and Baron von Strucker had been included. This was confirmed by screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely during an interview with IFC. This gives the impression that one or both could be used in the sequel. If Strucker makes the sequel we should expect the resurrection of Hydra and the inclusion of his second in command Madame Hydra. The duo have handed in an outline for Captain America 2 and could have continued the process since.

"There were a few classic villains that were planned for the first film, only to be removed in subsequent drafts. The pair previously revealed that evil despot Baron Zemo was in an early draft, but he wasn't the only sinister side character in those versions of the script. "


 "Baron Strucker was in there for a while, but he wasn't doing enough to justify wasting him in the film," said McFeely. "We certainly tried things, and ended up settling on the more useful Red Skull and Arnim Zola. But they're all still on the table," 

Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson Could Star In Michael Bay's Pain And Gain

Variety reports that Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson could star in Michael Bay's dark comedy action thriller Pain And Gain. The film is about the real-life extortion ring and a kidnapping plot that goes horribly awry in the Miami area, hatched by a couple of Floridian bodybuilders. It's been compared to Fargo and it's budget is aimed at around $20 million which is small for Bay.

Captain America Screenwriters Talk Sequel & Howling Commandos Spin-Off

 While talking with IFC (via ComicBookMovie) screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely talked about Captain America 2 confirming they've completed an outline for the the sequel. Along with seemingly colaberating with Joss Whedon to figure out where Cap's character should be in Captain America 2. Since a few things that likely were planned for the second film are now being included into The Avengers.

McFeely: "We needed to read Joss' 'Avengers' before we could go on and do 'Captain America 2.' We needed to see if he did anything different, character-wise - and he hadn't, he's an excellent writer - but we also needed to see what he had done in terms of Steve poking around the modern day and dealing with it." 

Markus: "So much of Captain America's adventures occur in the present day, so there are a lot of things I'd like to touch on. That said, we did leave the center section of 'Captain America' baggy enough to let him have adventures you didn't see [in the first film]. So, we kind of have enough room to play with [for the sequel]." 

McFeely: "Still, if he had another adventure entirely set in World War II, the stakes are kind of lessened, because you know he survives and you know what happens to Bucky and you know the Howling Commandos survive long enough to have a toast in a bar." 

Markus: "You know Cap wins and you know that whoever he was fighting didn't destroy the world, because you've already seen things that happen after it. So the stakes are, well... But then again, did that bother anyone with the second 'Indiana Jones' movie?" 

I'm a big fan of the first film so I'm excited to see that they're going forward with the sequel with Joe Johnston still expected at the helm. My only concern is that Joss Whedon had added things to the last film's script to incorporate the Avengers and I assume to add humor as well. Whedon is well known for his whitty oneliners which seemed all over The First Avenger. So hopefully Joss is still going to be apart of the screenwriting side along with Markus and McFeely. There also seems a rich story to be told with Winter Soldier whether it's in a sequel or the Howling Commando spin-off.



The pair also mentioned the potential Howling Commandos spin-off that has been rumored for a while now. Which they're open to making and could end up being very similar to Kelly's Heroes and Inglourious Basterds. The latter isn't surprising as Quentin Tarantino took inspiration for The Basterds from The Howling Commandos comics.


McFeely: "They're certainly cool, and in a different movie, we would've certainly had a little more 'Kelly Heroes' or 'Magnificent Seven". thing going on. (Talking about if they had more screen time) 

Markus: "It would've been like 'Inglourious Commandos." 

McFeely: "Personally, I'm a big fan of that type of movie - the ne'er-do-wells banding together to fight a common cause. So I'm open to it, but... well... I'll just say I'm open to it."

I have to admit that I almost enjoyed the scenes with the Howlers more than the solo Cap scenes. So I'd be on board with a Howling Commandos spin-off. Yet, I'm concerned with the amount of spin-off talk considering the laundry list of other original projects at Marvel that have yet to get off the ground. Their has already been talk of spin-offs for Nick Fury, Black Widow, War Machine, Hawkeye and The Warriors Three. I assume it's just way for Marvel to pump up audiences/fans to root for the supporting characters.

Villains That Should Be In Future Captain America Films

After viewing Captain America: The First Avenger a couple of times I've found it very entertaining. Being one of the best of Marvel Studios' films yet. So when the studio moved forward with a second film I was very interested. There was an announcement that Marvel was developing a script for a Cap sequel but no release date was set but 2014 seems likely. Joe Johnston is expected to return as the director since he signed on to make two films.

Last month screenwriter Christopher Markus (Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America 2) brought up an interesting casting idea for Captain America 2 that could seen recent Emmy winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) in the role of villain Modok in the sequel. Modok of A.I.M. is one of the only villains mentioned besides the quote from director Joe Johnston stating he'd like to explore the Winter Soldier story. I've come up with a few other villains that should be on screen some known and some lesser known villains.

A.I.M.: Advanced Idea Mechanics is another large terrorist group and is a splinter group of Hydra which was started by Baron Von Strucker. Modok is also an important member of the group along with Monica Rappaccini better known as Scientist Supreme. If the studio decides not to resurrect Hydra, A.I.M. could be a good target for SHIELD and Cap.

ALEXSANDER LURKIN: There are a few villains that could help move the Winter Soldier aspect forward, mainly KGB agent Aleksander Lukin. He inherits the leadership of a KGB group which is in charge of the Winter Soldier project. Lurkin is also involved with Kronas Corporation and Roxxon Oil. There was an Roxxon building shown in the first Iron Man, so the company has been established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Russian aspect could also lead to the Russian Super Solider Program giving us Red Guardian. Lurkin also has aligned himself with Hydra and The Red Skull.

MADAME HYDRA: Is the second in command of Hydra under Baron Von Strucker along with being the usperper of The Serpent Squad. If they do deceide to bring back Hydra, Strucker and Madame Hydra could be great co-leaders for the present time group. They've been previously introduced in both the cartoon series along with the Cap video game Super Solider.

BARON ZEMO: Zemo is the second most popular Captain America villain after Red Skull and could really show up in either of the time periods. Considering Heinrich (12th Baron Zemo) is seen during WWII and his son Helmunt is the present day Zemo.

GEORGES BATROC: A former French Legionnaire and currently a mercenary who is a master of savate (French Kickboxing) has been upgraded over the years from comic relief to badass. Eventually being able to handle fighting off both Cap and Hawkeye at once. Batroc is also able to hold his own against Black Panther, who is one of the greatest hand-to-hand fighters in the Marvel universe. I could see him used as a hired gun and could be apart of any villaineous group.

Marvel Studios Moving Forward With Captain America 2?

We recently heard news on movement on Iron Man 3 with Shane Black meeting with Marvel Studios. Now there is word from LatinoReview that Marvel is already working on Captain America 2. They've hired screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus who worked on First Avenger. It's expected that the sequel would be set during present time and after the events of Avengers.

There are plenty of characters and villains to be explored in future films now that HYDRA will be established in First Avenger. This could be an excellent film to introduce Cap stables like Winter Soldier (Bucky), Union Jack (modern), Baron Zemo, Crossbones, Viper/Madame Hydra and Baron von Strucker. It would also be a great opportunity to bring in Sharon Carter and Falcon into the mix.

I wouldn't be shocked to see the SHIELD/Nicky Fury film end up being combined into the Captain America sequel and to be honest I think it would end up a stronger movie.
