Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT Starts Shooting; Zoe Bell And Channing Tatum Confirmed

The Weinstein Company via The Wrap has announced production on Quentin Tarantino's 8th film The Hateful Eight started rolling and have revealed a majority of the cast.

In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…

Hateful Eight live read cast which has since been switched-up. 

The announced cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, and Channing Tatum.

This is first studio confirmation that Tatum has indeed joined the lineup.

New additions are Zoe Bell, James Parks, Dana Gourrier, Keith Jefferson, Lee Horsley, Craig Stark, Gene Jones and Belinda Owino.

Oscar Nominee Demian Bichir Joins Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT

Deadline reports that Oscar nominated actor Demian Bichir (Savages, Machete Kills, The Bridge, A Better Life) and Channing Tatum (Haywire, Foxcatcher) have finalized deals to take roles in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. Production is expected to begin in December, a year before it's release. There is also talk the film will have it's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next year. Here is the official synopsis for the film.

Jennifer Jason Leigh Reportedly Takes Female Lead In Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT

TheWrap is reporting that Jennifer Jason Leigh (Fast Times At Ridgemount High, Spectacular Now) has landed the female lead in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. Jennifer would take the role of female-prisoner Daisy Domergue. The western is about to begin shooting soon, and other cast members are expected to be announced.

RUMOR: Quentin Tarantino Wants Viggo Mortensen For A Role In THE HATEFUL EIGHT

Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight won't be shooting until this winter, but the casting rumors are already flying around. NewYorkDailyNews (via ThePlaylist) is reporting on pretty damn cool rumor, that Quentin Tarantino has met with actor Viggo Mortensen about playing a "ruthless gang leader". However, their source is a hotel guest and doesn't seem like the most reliable intel. That said, Viggo working with Tarantino doesn't seem that out of place. Mortensen gravitates towards more passionate filmmakers, and Quentin has a lot of that.

Previously over the summer, Jennifer Lawrence was being courted for a leading role. It seems like Tarantino's script rewrites have expanded the original roles. Possibly allowing for some serious stunt-casting, which could help draw-in audiences. The way having Leonardo DiCaprio playing the main villain in Django Unchained, helped make that film becoming Tarantino's biggest earners to date.

Having both Jennifer and Viggo on board, could get the attention of a audience members. I'm not entirely sure the massive Hunger Games following are massive fans of Tarantino's work. It could be a  great way to tap-into a huge group of female viewers, who usually don't pay to see his films. The film shoots this winter, and will be released sometime in December, 2015.

RUMOR: Jennifer Lawrence In Talks For Quentin Tarantino's HATEFUL EIGHT?

Quentin Tarantino is finally moving forward with his next film The Hateful Eight. The script leaked last year and Quentin sounded like he was going to shelve the western all together. Calmer-minds prevailed and Quentin instead put-on a live-read of the script instead. Casting a majority of the roles with actors that would presumably be apart of the film as well. Shooting is expected to take place early next year, with a release date aimed for December, 2015. A similar date to Tarantino's commercially successful Django Unchained.

While it's assumed that Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson and others from the live read would be returning. Collider has word that a very popular actress is in talks for a role in the film as well. They claim that Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook, Winter's Bone, Hunger Games) could end-up taking a role in the winter-set western.

The role isn't mentioned, but prisoner Daisy Domergue might be a role that get's a recasting. Originally, Amber Tamblyn played the role during the L.A. live-reading. It's quite possible that Lawrence might be recast into the lineup, or that Quentin has added more characters during his recent rewrites. Tamblyn had a very brief cameo in Django, so it's possible she might be kept in her existing role as Daisy.

TheWrap has contacted Jennifer's reps, who deny any involvement in the project.

Let's just remember that Tarantino's current trend is to hire at least one bankable name for a key role in films. Brad Pitt was the big name attached to Inglourious Basterds, and Leonardo DiCaprio in Django Unchained easily helped it's box office numbers (becoming Quentin's most successful release). It's possible adding someone with the awards background and commercial success that Lawrence brings to the table, would be a viable reason to add her to the lineup.

First Trailer For Matthew Vaughn's Action Spy Comedy KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE

It's been a while since we've seen Matthew Vaughn direct a film, he was about to helm Days of Future Past before jumping ship to direct The Secret Service (based on Mark Millar's comic). The film has it's first trailer and it's been retitled Kingsman: The Secret Service. I assume that Kingsman will be the actual franchise name, if the movie is successful enough to spawn future installments. It's hooligan meets James Bond concept will likely win over a lot of curious moviegoers.

The footage seems to be on par with what we should expect from Matthew Vaughn, but it does look like he's has a larger studio budget to play with this time around. Considering how small the budget was for Kick-Ass. I'm loving this trailer, and I can even play-along with Sam Jackson's silly lisp. Something that's not hinted to in the trailer, is the crazy amount of celebrity cameos which include Mark Hamill, David Beckham and Taylor Swift.

Tarantino Says HATEFUL EIGHT Still Shooting Next Winter, Cast Revealed With Live-Read?

A group of people were lucky enough to view a live-read of Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. At the event, Tarantino confirmed he is currently writing the second draft, which conclude with a third draft before shooting starts next Winter, as originally planned. This whole process must have reenergized the director, as we thought the script leak (which happens with all his films) took it's toll. A release date hasn't been mentioned, but a fall/winter spot in 2015 is very likely, for awards consideration.

The live-read cast included a bunch of linked/rumored actors, along with new and familiar players as well. I have to assume that Tarantino will try to get these actors set in the roles they played in the read. The group of actors included Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Django Unchained) as Major Marquis Warren, Kurt Russell (Death Proof, The Thing, Escape From New York) as John "The Hangman" Ruth, Amber Tamblyn as Daisy Domergue, James Parks (Death Proof, Kill Bill) O.B., Walton Goggins (The Shield, Django Unchained) as Chris Mannix, Tim Roth (Four Rooms, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs) as Oswaldo Mobray, Michael Madsen (Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs) as John Gage , Denis Minochet (Inglourious Basterds) as Frenchman Bob, and Bruce Dern (Django Unchained, Nebraska) as the vile Confederate General Smithers. Other supporting roles included Zoë Bell (Death Proof, Django Unchained, Kill Bill) as New Zealand bounty hunter Six-Horse Judy, Dana Gourrier (Django Unchained) as Minnie and James Remar (Dexter, Django Unchained, Warriors) as Jody. It's an amazing group of actors and I really hope to see a majority of them playing these roles in the film. Oddly enough, Christoph Waltz wasn't represented in the read, I assume the rewrites would add other roles.

DIE HARD 6/DIE HARDEST Includes Zeus, Nakatomi & Japan..Should John McTierman Direct?

There were possible plot-points concerning Fox's Die Hard 6/Die Hardest revealed back in November. Screenwriter Ben Trebilcook revealed to WhatCulture that McClane would be invited by the Nakatomi Corporation to Japan for the 30th anniversary of the hostage crisis. Mentioning the tone would be more similar to the 90's film Rising Sun.

“I can say that McClane is invited to Tokyo by the Nakatomi Corporation to be commended for his bravery and efforts in saving 36 lives, celebrating this on the 30th anniversary of the Nakatomi Hostage Crisis,”

“It’s by no means 'Black Rain,' perhaps has a slight “Rising Sun” type tone. It’s also not a double-act buddy-buddy story. McClane began on his own and should end on his own. Of course he’s had assistance in various guises, aiding him in his ventures; but it’s not ‘Lethal Weapon’ or a Jackie Chan film.” 



He also talked that Zeus Carver (played by Samuel L. Jackson) from Die Hard With A Vengeance could be returning.

"My story, being set in Japan, obviously has Nakatomi playing an extremely significant role; in a way that.. well, it’s John McClane in Japan and if you’ve seen any Japanese movies or at least know anything about their culture at all, you know it would have a lot of potential to be nuts. It’s not Ichi The Killer, but it is crazy and as real as you can get in these realms. It’s violent, but not over the top nor unnecessarily Loony Tune like Olympus. It’s well researched, faithful to the franchise, yet giving a possible audience such a refreshing punch to the face, they’ll be saying ‘Wow. I really wasn’t expecting that.’ You want a nugget, don’t you? I’m pretty sure it’s out there. A few Japanese fans on Twitter put two and two together when I uploaded a picture of a Katana (Samurai Sword) with some kanji reading ‘Zeus’. Yes, I’ve written Zeus Carver in for Samuel L Jackson."

"Like I said before, it’s not a buddy-buddy script, but you can’t ignore him. Zeus played a major part in McClane’s life. They went through a lot together. They would certainly, without a doubt, still be in contact. A guy I know, Stel, wrote the 51st State (aka Formula 51) with Sam the Man. I put the idea to him and he said Sam would probably love to have a sword in a movie; that’s how you could woo him. Let’s say I have a Better Tomorrow 2 vibe. Have you seen that film? Tell you what else? Probably the best ‘Yippie Ki Yay’ one could ever hope for. "

There is now a bit more hinting to Jackson and Willis reuniting for the 6th installment, as LatinoReview tweets it could be happening. Stating the project is out to screenwriters, but will have to involve both Zeus and John in the film, the size of Zeus' role is unknown. This could mean that Fox has moved-on from Trebilcook, I'm sure dishing a majority of the plot wasn't a good move, on his part.

The last two installments hired two directors, that didn't really add anything to the franchise. There has only been one director that has returned to make a sequel, and that was John McTierman. He's arguably one of the greatest action directors of the 80s, helming other films such as Predator and The Hunt For Red October. John recently was released from prison (over some wire-tapping charges, which is ironic post-NSA scandal) and is ready to get back to work. Die Hard and Die Hard With A Vengeance are the strongest chapters, and were directed by McTierman. Having him return, considering all the elements which are expected to be in the film, would be a very smart move. I can see John taking all the familiar things and giving us a bigger/better action flick.

At one point it was rumored that Shane Black (Last Boy Scout, Lethal Weapon, Iron Man 3) would consult on the project, it's unknown how true this is. That said, Shane Black is being linked to the project and knowing how the buddy-film dynamic works, he'd knock it out of the park as well. It doesn't hurt that his last film earned $1.3 billion, and Doc Savage is still stuck in development.

RUMOR: Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT Back On With Sam Jackson?

It's starting to sounds like Quentin Tarantino has calmed down about the leak of his HATEFUL EIGHT script. The current rumor circling is that he's pushing forward with script rewrites and is talking with Samuel L. Jackson about taking a lead role. I've been hearing this rumor over the week from different sources, but Jeff over at TheWrap is posting it on his Twitter account, being clear it's only a rumor at this point. I'd love for it to be true, but unless it comes out of the mouth of Quentin, we never really know if it's actually going to happen.

I really hope we end up hearing new names such as Michael K. Williams (in the running for Django) and Kurt Russell (dropped out of Django), being in the mix for the film. No matter what happens, we should expect Christoph Waltz will also have a role.

Quentin Tarantino Cancels THE HATEFUL EIGHT Production Over Script Leak

Sad news for Tarantino fans, as the director has announced to Deadline that his production of The Hateful Eight has been put on hold. Quentin had hand delivered scripts to three potential actors, who shared it with their agents. Two of the three agents are under suspicion of leaking the script to other agents/actors. This has made Quentin so furious, that he's shutdown production on the project all together, and is aiming to publish the script as a novel instead.

The three actors in question were Tim Roth, Bruce Dern and Michael Madsen, one of the latter two are believed to involved in the leak. Tarantino hadn't even showed the western screenplay to either Christoph Waltz or Samuel L. Jackson, who were also expected to have lead roles in the film. It sounds like he was slighted by people he considered friends and is turned off to the project over the leak. The film's production wasn't even expected to begin until next winter, which puts doubt when his next film could happen.

Tarantino doesn't rule out coming back to make The Hateful Eight down the road, but is looking to another project which he'll make first. Giving the impression it could be five to six years before we see Eight back in production. It's hard not to consider how awesome a straight-up western would have been, but Quentin has lots of projects in the works at the moment. One of these rumored projects is a 30's era gangster flick, which I'm currently rooting for to be next.

Sam Jackson Confirming Elizabeth Olsen For Scarlet Witch In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON?

While speaking with WSJ, Sam "Nick Fury" Jackson dished a bit on the production of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Confirming that shooting would begin before March and that James Spader is playing Ultron. However, he added one unannounced detail about the film. That Elizabeth Olsen will indeed be apart of the film. Neither, Marvel or outlets have confirmed Olsen for the role of Scarlet Witch which she had been in talks for. Jackson previously worked with Olsen on Spike Lee's Oldboy and Aaron Johnson (Quicksilver candidate) worked with her recently on Legendary Pictures' Godzilla.

“I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year. I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch], but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.”

Christoph Waltz To Play Villain While Emma Stone And Margot Robbie In Talks To Replace Jessica Chastain In TARZAN

Variety reports two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz is in talks to play the villain in Warner Bros. updated take on Tarzan. Alexander Skarsgard is set to play Tarzan while Jessica Chastain recently dropped out of the role of Jane. They go on to mention that actresses Emma Stone (Amazing Spider-Man 1-2) and Margot Robbie (Wolf of Wall Street) are being looked at for Jane, along with others. David Yates, who directed the latter Harry Potter films is set to helm the film. Samuel L. Jackson had been linked for a supporting role but it's possible production of Age of Ultron could be an issue.

RUMOR: Taylor Swift, Elton John And David Beckham To Cameo In Matthew Vaughn's THE SECRET SERVICE?

British tabloid TheMirror is putting out the rumor that singer Taylor Swift will have a cameo in Matthew Vaughn's The Secret Service. The action comedy would see Swift kidnapped by the villain played Sam Jackson, with her escaping and kicking ass. The comic alludes to famous people getting kidnapped, hence the appearance of Mark Hamill playing himself. So it's possible she'll be playing herself but with a martial arts background. Swift isn't the only celebrity being asked to make a cameo in The Secret Service. Legendary singer Elton John and footballer David Beckham have also been approached to appear in the film according to the tabloid.

Variety reports that Samuel L. Jackson will play the villain of The Secret Service. A role which was offered to both Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio previously. The site mentions that Emma Watson (Harry Potter, Bling Ring) and Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows, Killing Them Softly) are up for the female lead alongside Taron Egerton, Colin Firth and Michael Caine.

Robert Redford Confirms Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, Is He Playing Alexander Pierce?

LATimes was able to directly ask the legendary Oscar winner actor Robert Redford about joining the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Robert confirmed he'll be in the film and talked a bit about the reasons for agreeing to make it. The rest of cast includes Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Toby Jones and Georges St-Pierre. His character named Pierce will be a higher-up in S.H.I.E.L.D. It's possible he could be a combination of Agent Alexander Pierce and the classic Sgt. Nick Fury.

“I'm doing this film because it's different. It's a new thing for me... I like the idea of stepping into new territory. I'm excited by it. I also think it's a good bunch of people who really know what they're doing.” 

Georges St-Pierre To Play Villain Batroc The Leaper In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

LatinoReview is reporting yet another inspiring casting choice by Marvel as the studio has cast Canadian MMA fighter Georges St-Pierre in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. GSP will play Marvel villain Batroc The Leaper, a French mercenary with exceptional fighting skills. I assume Batroc will be on the same villain squad as Crossbones (Frank Grillo) and The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan). This addition begs the question, will we end up seeing a female baddie in the film?
