Guy Ritchie To Make Six Part KING ARTHUR Epic At Warner Bros?

A while back Warner Bros. had different directors putting together pitches for a new King Arthur movie. David Dobkin's Arthur and Lancelot tried to wrangle Colin Farrell and Gary Oldman, when the studio rejected the $130 budget along trying to cast unknowns Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Joel Kinnaman (Robocop).

Another project was a remake of the classic 80's film Excalibur, which had Bryan Singer attached but never really got it's legs. Singer went on to make Jack The Giant Slayer for the studio, and since has returned to the X-Men franchise to direct Days of Future Past and possibly Apocalypse.

Guy Richie (Sherlock Holmes, Snatch) was also trying to put together his own Arthur movie with Trainspotting screenwriter John Hodge. That project also didn't make it too far, as Arthur And Lancelot became the favorite at the studio.

Deadline has news that Guy Ritchie is looking revive the Arthur project at Warner Bros., with a new script from Joby Harold. They will try to establish a story that will span six films in total, a rather ambitious undertaking. Ritchie will seeming direct the first installment, no word if he'll stick around for all six movies. Guy is currently working on The Man From U.N.C.L.E, a film that also took forever to get casting and budget right, before the movie starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer got the green-light.

Gary Oldman Takes Supporting Role In Daniel Espinosa's CHILD 44

THR reports that Gary Oldman has signed on to play a police officer investigating murders in Daniel Espinosa's (Safe House, Snabba Cash) Child 44. The Soviet-era crime thriller already stars Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace and Joel Kinnaman. Gary recently took roles in genre flicks Dawn of The Planet of The Apes and the Robocop remake.

THR reports that's it's do or die time for Guy Ritchie's The Man From U.N.C.L.E. at Warner Bros. The film (budding franchise) is about to loose it's director if the studio can't secure a lead. Tom Cruise is newest actor being looked at for the role of Napoleon Solo. If it doesn't pan out Guy might walk to focus on another one of his many projects. Those include Treasure Island and The Real RockNRolla which Ritchie has been developing for a while now. Sherlock Holmes 3 is still being worked out as Robert Downey Jr.  is trying to figure out if Avengers 2 and possibly Iron Man 4 are in the cards.

Cruise's All You Need Is Kill setup at Warner Bros. is getting them excited to him in another big projects and already has a successful franchise based on a classic TV series with Mission: Impossible. It will be interesting to see if this goes forward before Mission: Impossible 5 that just landed Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher, Usual Suspects) as it's director. Tom also has a few possible projects that have been developing in the last couple of years including Guillermo del Toro's At The Mountains Of Madness and Van Helsing reboot. The former almost went into production at Universal but is could move to another opened minded studio.

More recently, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon had been offered the leads but like many before them passed. When Steven Soderbergh (Haywire, Ocean's 11, Traffic) was originally attached to direct a slew of talent was being looked at including George Clooney, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Joel Kinnaman and Michael Fassbender. Scott Z. Burns had penned the film's script when Soderbergh was involved. There had been talk of making it a period piece (60's) setting itself apart from other espionage themed action flicks.

Joel Kinnaman Re-Teams With Director Daniel Espinosa For CHILD 44 Starring Tom Hardy And Noomi Rapace

THR reports that actor Joel Kinnaman (Robocop, Dragon Tattoo) is in talks for a role in Child 44, his third film with director Daniel Espinosa. The film stars Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace which focuses on a member of the Soviet military police (Hardy) who, while investigating a series of child murders, finds himself the target of his own government’s suspicions. Kinnaman would play the ambitious and murderous nemesis of Hardy's character. Joel and Daniel previously worked together on Snabba Cash and Safe House. He'll be seen in Robocop and recently attached himself to the Liam Neeson thriller All Nighter.

Joel Kinnaman In Final Talks To Join Liam Neeson In ALL NIGHTER

THR reports that Swedish-American actor Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, Snabba Cash, Safe House) is in final talks to take a supporting role in Jaume Collet-Serra's thriller All Nighter. The Liam Neeson vehicle setup at Warner Bros. focuses on an aging hitman (Neeson) who is forced to take on his brutal former boss to protect his estranged son (Kinnaman) and his family. The son which would be played by Joel witnesses a murder and is targeted for elimination.

 Joel was last scene in Safe House and is looking at his own possible franchise with the Robocop remake coming out early next year. This will be the third film that director Jaume Collet-Serra and Liam Neeson have worked on. Firstly, the amnesia thriller The Unknown and plane hijack thriller Non-Stop which co-stars Nate Parker (an actor to keep an eye on).

James McAvoy Could Join WIKILEAKS Film Starring Benedict Cumberbatch

Variety reports that James McAvoy (Atonement, X-Men First Class, Trance) is in talks for Dreamworks' untitled WikiLeaks film. Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Hobbit, Star Trek Into Darkness) is playing Julian Assange in the movie while James could play Daniel Domscheit-Berg. They mention that Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, Robocop, Snabba Cash) had bene rumored for the role that McAvoy could take.

Assange launched whistleblowing website WikiLeaks in 2006 and began antagonizing world governments by leaking embarrassing diplomatic cables and other state secrets, prompting the U.S. to seek to prosecute the polarizing figure. 

Domscheit-Berg began working with WikiLeaks after meeting Assange at the Chaos Computer Club's annual conference in 2007, eventually becoming a spokesperson for the organization. Assange recruited Domscheit-Berg because he had been burned by some hacker friends when he was younger and the German tech guru seemed like someone he could trust. 

The charismatic Assange seduced Domscheit-Berg with his ideology, promising the two could cause real change in the world via WikiLeaks. Assange is expected to be portrayed as a noble crusader who eventually becomes drunk with power as he grows increasingly paranoid and obsessed with winning the "war of information." 

Though he rose to become Assange's right-hand man at WikiLeaks, Domscheit-Berg left due to his belief that Assange failed to display journalistic integrity. His split from WikiLeaks was widely credited by news outlets as being one of the incidents that led Assange to release more than a quarter-million U.S. diplomatic cables. In his book, Domscheit-Berg criticizes Assange's leadership style and handling of the Afghan War Diaries. In September 2010, Domscheit-Berg founded OpenLeaks with the intention of being more transparent than WikiLeaks, though the project has failed to have the same impact.

Michael Keaton To Play Villain In ROBOCOP

Deadline reports that Michael Keaton (Batman, Jackie Brown) has landed the villain role in Robocop. The role originally had been linked to Hugh Laurie but has since gone to Keaton. The rest of the cast includes Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, Snabba Cash), Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel and Michael K. Williams.

Clive Owen Could Replace Hugh Laurie In ROBOCOP Remake

Deadline reports that talks with Hugh Laurie to play the villain in Robocop have broken down. It was expected Hugh would play Dick Jones an evil corrupt company executive who is slighted by the creation of Robocop who threatens his side businesses. A group of backup actors will likely now be contacted they name Clive Owen (Sin City, Children of Men) as one of the possible people. The current cast includes Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jay Baruchel, and Jackie Earle Haley. Other possible additions include Jennifer Ehle and Michael K. Williams.

Hugh Laurie In Talks To Play 'ROBOCOP' Villain

Variety reports that Hugh Laurie (Black Adder, House) is up for the villain role in Robocop. The remake would see Hugh play a villainous OCP (Omni Consumer Products) CEO who should end up being Dick Jones or a version of him. The rest of the cast includes Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Abbie Cornish with a release date of August 9th 2013.

Abbie Cornish Up For 'ROBOCOP' Female Lead

Deadline reports Australian actress Abbie Cornish is in talks for a role alongside Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman and possibly Samuel L. Jackson in Robocop. Abbie would play the wife of the slain/resurrected cop that becomes Robocop, thinking she is widow. There had been early rumblings that Rebecca Hall was circling the role before landing a supporting part in Iron Man 3.

HeatVision reports that Samuel L. Jackson (Django Unchained, Avengers) will re-team with his True Romance co-star Gary Oldman by taking a role in Robocop. Joel Kinnaman is set to play Alex Murphy with Gary Oldman as the scientist who turns the dying officer into a crime-fighting cyborg. They say Jackson's will play a TV mogul that factors into this world. I assume he could be running a version of Omni Consumer Products (OCP) company who funds the Robocop program. Another possible idea is that he's playing a Dick Jones/Clarence type villain. I guess we'll find out for sure when the film is released on August 9th 2013.

HeatVision reports that Gary Oldman has joined the cast of MGM's remake of Robocop. Oldman will play a scientist who turned fallen cop Alex Murphy played by Joel Kinnaman (Snabba Cash 1-2, The Killing) into the heroic cyborg. It's an interesting paring as the two had been linked for Arthur And Lancelot before Warner Bros. put it on hold. Gary will end his run as Jim Gordon this summer in The Dark Knight Rises. I'll be curious to see if he can help the credibility of this reboot even with a talented director like Jose Padilha (Elite Squad 1-2) behind the camera. Some other possible additions for the remake had included Edward Norton (Bourne Legacy, Incredible Hulk), a pre-Iron Man 3 Rebecca Hall (Town, Prestige) and Gael Garcia Bernal.

RUMOR: MGM Looking At High Profiled Actors For Supporting Roles In 'ROBOCOP'?

TrackingBoard is reporting that MGM is currently looking Rebecca Hall (Prestige, The Town, Red Riding), Edward Norton (Fight Club, Bourne Legacy, Incredible Hulk), Gael Garcia Bernal and Sean Penn for supporting roles in Jose Padilha's (Elite Squad 1-2) Robocop remake. It will remain to be seen if they're able to cast these actors alongside Joel Kinnaman (Snabba Cash 1-2, The Killing, Safe House). I'm unsure how reliable this site is, since I don't often hear news from them but I've labeled this as a rumor.

James Vanderbilt Hired To Do Rewrites On Robocop

James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) is gather quite a reputation after his commercial writing jobs with Sony on Sam Raimi's axed Spider-Man 4, Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man and Len Wiseman's Total Recall reboot. He also recently was tasked to start outlining Amazing Spider-Man 2. There is word from Variety that James has been hired by MGM to do some rewrites on Jose Padilha's Robocop remake which stars Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, Snabba Cash).

Colin Farrell In Talks For Arthur And Lancelot

ShowBlitz reports that the troubled Arthur And Lancelot has new life thanks to Colin Farrell (In Bruges, Total Recall). It's being reported that Farrell is in talks with Warner Bros. to take one of the two leads. Not too long again the studio put the movie on hold to figure out budgetary issues. This lead to their two leads Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) to drop out and sign on to other projects. Harington is taking a role in Seventh Son and Joel will be the new Robocop in MGM's reboot. Marion Cotillard (Inception, Dark Knight Rises) had been previously offered the role of Morgana as well. It's also mentioned that the studio is aiming for the film to have a tone similar to Braveheart.

Joel Kinnaman Is Officially The New Robocop!

Deadline has confirmation that Joel Kinnaman will be the new Alex Murphy in MGM's Robocop remake. Kinnaman is quickly becoming a rather well known for picking great projects starring in AMC's series The Killing, leading Swedish crime thrillers Snabba Cash 1-2 along with supporting roles in hit films like Safe House and Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Joel had previously been up for roles at two different Warner Bros' projects which included Arthur And Lancelot and The Man From Uncle. The new take on Old Detroit's finest robot will come from Elite Squad 1-2 director Jose Padilha.

Variety's Jeff Snider also added that the studio had been looking at other actors for the role as well. Those  names included everyones go-to-guy Michael Fassbender, Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and Eminem since the studio was working him on the boxing film South Paw. Oddly, there also had been rumblings from Jeff that Russell Crowe was in mix but Crowe himself took to Twitter to shut down the rumor.
