Robert Redford Confirms Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, Is He Playing Alexander Pierce?
LATimes was able to directly ask the legendary Oscar winner actor Robert Redford about joining the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Robert confirmed he'll be in the film and talked a bit about the reasons for agreeing to make it. The rest of cast includes Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Toby Jones and Georges St-Pierre. His character named Pierce will be a higher-up in S.H.I.E.L.D. It's possible he could be a combination of Agent Alexander Pierce and the classic Sgt. Nick Fury.
“I'm doing this film because it's different. It's a new thing for me... I like the idea of stepping into new territory. I'm excited by it. I also think it's a good bunch of people who really know what they're doing.”

Toby Jones Confirms Return For CAPTAIN AMERICA THE WINTER SOLDIER, Felicity Jones Denies Casting Rumor
HeyUGuys were able to confirm with actor Toby Jones that he would be reprising the role of Dr. Zola in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Fans picked up on tidbits in First Avenger that could have been setting up a present-day Zola. Testing out brainwashing techniques with Bucky. Barnes would eventually get the full treatment after being turned into a cyrogenic assassin with a robotic arm known as Winter Soldier. It's possible that Dr. Zola could behind the creation of the Winter Solider along with his new robotic body. The blueprints for had been an Easter Egg in the first film. While it hasn't been confirmed rumors have been circling that Baron Zemo or Baron Strucker could be the main villain pulling the strings.
Felicity Jones who had been linked for the female lead in the film has denied she was ever in the running to the site as well. Mary Elizabeth Winstead had previously done same in recent interviews. It's possible that rumored front-runners Anna Kendrick (Scott Pilgrim, End of Watch, Up In The Air) and Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey, Winter's Tale) are still being considered.
"No, I’m not part of that. I haven’t auditioned for that one and I never even saw the script."

Tarantino's KILLER CROW To Focus On Black WWII Soldiers' Warpath To Switzerland
While Quentin Tarantino is relishing in the current commercial and critical success of both Inglorious Basterds and the newly released Django Unchained. There had been talk of these films being apart of an unofficial trilogy. It had been thought that Christoph Waltz would be the key factor in all three films. The third film has been given a working title by Quentin according to an interview with TheRoot (via ThePlaylist). Tarantino envisions Killer Crow as a film that could include a lot of excluded material from Inglorious Basterds. There had been a sub-plot that included black soldiers that didn't end up making the film. Talk of a Basterds-prequel also hinted to this story of black WWII soldiers story being explored. He confirms that half a the Killer Crow script is already finished. While this sounds promising, recent talk from Tarantino suggests his 30's era gangster film could be closer to production.
"There's something about this that would suggest a trilogy. My original idea for 'Inglourious Basterds' way back when was that this [would be] a huge story that included the [smaller] story that you saw in the film, but also followed a bunch of black troops, and they had been f--ked over by the American military and kind of go apes--t. They basically -- the way Lt. Aldo Raines and the Basterds are having an "Apache resistance" -- [the] black troops go on an Apache warpath and kill a bunch of white soldiers and white officers on a military base and are just making a warpath to Switzerland... I was going to do it as a miniseries, and that was going to be one of the big storylines. When I decided to try to turn it into a movie, that was a section I had to take out to help tame my material. I have most of that written. It's ready to go; I just have to write the second half of it... That would be the third of the trilogy. It would be [connected to] 'Inglourious Basterds,' too, because Inglourious Basterds are in it, but it is about the soldiers. It would be called 'Killer Crow' or something like that."
It's more than likely Killer Crow will end up starring Jamie Foxx and Samuel L. Jackson along with actors that previously were trying out for the role of Django. They included Anthony Mackie, Idris Elba, Will Smith, Michael Kenneth Williams, Terrence Howard, Larenz Tate and Chris Trucker. The Swiss setting could also allow a new crop of talented European actors to be considered as well.
The Basterds will be back and it's expected that Brad Pitt's Lt. Aldo Raine will be returning. Depending on the film's timeline we could also see Eli Roth's Donny Donowitz as well.

Frank Grillo Wanted To Play Villain Crossbones In WINTER SOLDIER?
Frank Grillo (The Grey, End of Watch, Warrior) just might end up landing the role of Brock Rumlow (Crossbones) in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The actor has Tweeted (via CBM) tidbits that he's met with Marvel Studios for a role in the sequel not to mention hinting it could be Crossbones. Confirming this possible villainous role from another source close to the actor. It's seems like an excellent casting choice as Grillo has been apart of some solid flicks. Other new additions include Anthony Mackie (Million Dollar Baby, Hurt Locker) as Sam Wilson/The Falcon and possibly Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim, The Thing, Death Proof, Smashed) as Sharon Carter/Agent 13.

Nikolaj Coster Waldau And Josh Holloway Could Play Villains In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
LatinoReview also reports that Marvel is looking at actors Nikolaj Coster Waldau (Game of Thrones, Headhunters) and Josh Holloway (Lost, Ghost Protocol) for two villain roles. The two physical parts are for foreign and American baddies. It's possible the villains they are referring to are Baron Strucker/Baron Zemo and Crossbones (Brock Rumlow). It could be an interesting pairing considering Winter Soldier is also in the villain mix.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead Also Wanted For CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
LatinoReview reveals that Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in the mix for the female role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. MEW is best known for Scott Pilgrim, Death Proof and the recent Thing prequel. However, she's getting a lot of traction for her performance in the film Smashed. She had been in the running for the role of Maria Hill in Avengers but lost out to Cobie Smulders.

SPECULATION: Viggo Mortenson Being Looked At For Baron Zemo Not Strange?
Over the summer it had been reported by a few sources that Doctor Strange was going to be introduced in the Thor sequel The Dark World. Being a colleage of Jane Foster (Portman) that would be a rather large role. A few months back there was a rumor circling that Viggo Mortensen was in talks for Strange. A Marvel producer denied this in an interview but stated they've been trying to work with Viggo for years. Not really killing the idea of him taking another role in the Marvel universe.
GeekScape has a decent theory that Viggo is actually being looked for a villain role rather than a franchise part. We know that Mortensen has been turning down big blockbusters such as Man of Steel and Snow White And The Huntsman. They believe that the Lord of The Rings star could be in talks with Marvel Studios for Baron Zemo rather than Doctor Strange. Linking previous tweets that first fueled the rumors. It makes sense considering the producer gave the impression he could be still talking with them. He'd make a solid villain in my opinion and one way for the studio to one-up Hugo Weaving's Red Skull. Another rumor pits Zemo as the villain pulling the strings of The Winter Soldier.

Alison Brie And Emilia Clarke Testing For CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
Deadline has word more actresses are testing for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. As Alison Brie (Five-Year Engagement, Community, Mad Men), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downtown Abbey) and Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, Fright Night) are the shortlist for the "love interest" for Steve Rogers. While the latter two names have appeared before it's the first time that Brie and Clarke have been linked to the film. It's possible new Marvel directors Alan Taylor (Thor: Dark World, Game of Thrones) and Russo Brothers (Winter Soldier, Community) have been pitching their actors to the studio. Previously, Anna Kendrick and Felicity Jones had been linked for the role.
The site also confirms (again) that Scarlett Johansson will reprise the role of Black Widow, perhaps having her Russian origin linked to that of The Winter Soldier? Other confirmed actors include Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie.

Anna Kendrick Offered Female Lead In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER?
A Vietnamese newspaper (via CBM) has what appears to be possible confirmation that Oscar nominated actress Anna Kendrick (50/50, Up In The Air) just might be the front-runner for the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They seemingly have an interview with co-director Anthony Russo praising the young actor. Kendrick had been linked along with Felicity Jones and Imogen Poots as candidates for the role that could end being that of SHIELD Agent Sharon Carter. Chris Evans had previously worked with Kendrick on Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Wright is also tied up with Marvel to make Ant-Man. Anna is mostly known for her quirky roles which began with the high school debating indie Rocket Science. She would later earn a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her performance in Up In The Air. It will be interesting to see her take on a more action driven project like Winter Soldier.
The sequel has been dubbed a political thriller that follows the events of The Avengers likely focusing on the tention between SHIELD and The World Counsel. Along with seeing how Cap is adapting to life in the 21st Century. We know that Winter Solider (Bucky) will end up one of the villains and that The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) will be added to the supporting lineup. There had been talk of Black Widow and Hawkeye also being involved but that hasn't been officially announced yet. However, Samuel L. Jackson has been confirmed to reprise the role of Nick Fury.

Co-Director Anthony Russo Talks 'CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER'
One half of the Russo Brothers spoke to the HuffingtonPost about their upcoming film Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Anthony doesn't give much in the way of details but you get an idea of the director's passion for the characters. Anthony Mackie (Gangster Squad, Million Dollar Baby, Hurt Locker) is currently the only new cast member in talks with Marvel. There is talk that Sam Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Cobie Smulders will reprise their roles as SHIELD agents.
On how they sold themselves to land the gig...
“We were comic book geeks from a young age and big fantasy geeks. We got to talk to them in detail about that history. They knew that we understood the brand really well and the characters really well. It was a long process, actually, of talking to them over and over again, through a series of meetings over a long period of time. And I think they just -- we were really passionate about the movie, incredibly passionate about the movie. They felt that, and they felt like it was the right match.”
On what appealed to them in Ed Brubaker's "Winter Soldier" comic-book story...
“Well, we like the [story.] I can't talk too much about specifics, that's the way Marvel handles things. I can say in general that there's sort of a darker, edgier sensibility at work there that we found appealing, and that is going find its way into Captain [America] in the modern day.”
On whether flashbacks to WW2 are possible...
“Certainly Cap has this complicated history. We're making the movie for first-time viewers, not just for fans, so, because Cap does have this complicated history -- he was this skinny guy who became a super-soldier, he was born back then and he's living [now] -- in the storytelling, you need to convey that to an audience who doesn't know Cap's story.”
On whether the expected heavy visual effects are intimidating...
“They said to us early on in the interview process, "We don't expect you to know anything [about special effects and so forth] -- you don't have to know everything about this stuff, because we're here for that." They're very respectful of directors. They're an amazing company to work with.”
On whether any comic book writers and creators have offered any advice...
“We're actually going to have lunch with Brubaker soon. But no, they haven't been involved. In the same way that they would develop a new comic-book series, they give its own space to develop. But certainly everybody is aware [of what's in the comics], has read everything, is aware of all their other material. But they do like each thing to be its own, organic process, which is nice”
On what from The Avengers would he like to interpret into the movie...
“For me, what I loved about the movie, which is what many if not most people loved about the movie, were the character interactions, those great character moments. You have people rubbing up against each other in a way that's exciting and combustible. While all the special effects and the adventure, the thrill and the danger [are] fun, it was those character-to-character interactions are the heart of the film. So that's what [we'll hope to have].”
