Sullivan Stapleton Linked For Unknown Role In STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

LatinoReview reports that Aussie actor Sullivan Stapleton has also tested for an unknown part in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. They don't know what the role actually is. However, since he's playing a heroes in 300: The Rise of An Empire and on his UK series Strike Back. I would assume Sullivan could be looking at a Jedi Knight role in the film.

I'd love to see him as Ben Skywalker, which is rumored to have been offered to actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Ryan Gosling (which he co-starred with in Gangster Squad). Sullivan had been at one point in the mix for the role of Peter Quill/Starlord in Marvel's Guardians of The Galaxy. He's also popped up as a fan favorite as the new Wolverine and Batman (pre-Batfleck). Sullivan's Animal Kingdom co-star Joel Edgerton played the young Uncle Owen in two of the prequels.

WB Moving Forward With Ruben Fleischer's SPY HUNTER And Gets A New Writer

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is moving forward with development on their adaptation of video game Spy Hunter. They've hired Carter Blanchard to write the script with Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) attached to direct. Ruben's last two films 30 Minutes Or Less and Gangster Squad bombed so it's likely the studio will be keeping an eye on it's production. Dwayne Johnson has been linked for the lead but it's unknown if he'll end up in the role. He'll be busy this Summer with Hercules and eventually Fast And Furious 7, it's possible he could join other projects during that time as well.

JUSTICE LEAUGE Script From Will Beall Getting Tossed By WB?

BadAssDigest is reporting that Warner Bros. is throwing out Will Beall's recent draft of Justice League because of it's quality. The writer scripted their recent bomb Gangster Squad it's lackluster performance could also be a reason. Justice League is also have major problems finding a director and it could be a major factor for the studio going back to the drawing board. It's been mentioned WB is also waiting until the release of Man of Steel before moving forward with the film, so they have time to weigh their options.

Ben Affleck (Argo, The Town) and Shane Black (Iron Man 3) have been linked to direct Justice League. Both directors are also screenwriters, Ben being an Oscar winning writer. I'm sure if they give free reign to someone similar to what they did with Christopher Nolan for his Batman films it might pay-off. Affleck had been hoping for Episode VII but was edged out by J.J. Abrams it's possible the studio could throw a lot of options at him. Black is also well-known for writing skills and could end up making a name for himself as a blockbuster director depending on the success of Iron Man 3 in May. Interesting enough WB had been pursuing Affleck for Gangster Squad also written by Will Beall but passed. Perhaps, the main sticking point is that Ben wants to write it himself being a massive comic book fan.

JUSTICE LEAGUE Lineup Revealed?

LatinoReview has another scoop this time concerning Justice League. They say the official lineup for the film includes the main five heroes Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and The Flash. The site previously revealed that the villain of the film would be Darkseid. The cast hasn't been locked down but Henry Cavill and Joseph Gordon-Levitt could be the leads. There hasn't been word if the studio is looking to re-cast Green Lantern after the box office disaster. Switching out Hal Jordan for Jon Stewart could be how the studio fixes Green Lantern. A director for the large event film hasn't been hired but is expected to go into production this year with a Summer 2015 release date.

It's possible we could also be seeing cameos from Aquaman and Martian Munhunter.

Zack Snyder And Ruben Fleischer Candidates For JUSTICE LEAGUE?

ThinkMcflyThink (via CBM) tweeted a couple more names added to Warner Bros' list of possible directors for Justice League. We've previously heard names like Ben Affleck (Gone Baby Gone, The Town, Argo) and The Wachowskis (Cloud Atlas, Matrix 1-3) in the running. However, some uninspired directors such as Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X3) and McG (Terminator Salvation) are being bunched into in the group. Some other interesting names include studio darling Zack Snyder (Man of Steel, Watchmen, 300) and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad). The latter seemingly becoming a studio favourite in his own right. I feel The Wachowskis, Ruben and Zack have the best shot here. Zack is head of the pack in my opinion. As he was able to pull off Watchmen while the film could have been a total disaster it ended up a solid attempt.

Sullivan Stapleton Joins 300 Prequel

Variety reports that Aussie actor Sullivan Stapleton (Strike Back, Animal Kingdom) has landed the lead in the untitled 300 prequel. I'm a little confused about which role Sullivan has actually nabbed. Deadline reports it's Xerxes while ThePlaylist says it's the lead role that was originally offered to Joel Edgerton which had been reported to be Themistocles. Variety is even more vague and doesn't even give a hint what the role is. Stapleton hasn't had many high profiled projects since Animal Kingdom but has a supporting role in the gritty mob thriller Gangster Squad. Eva Green (Casino Royale, Kingdom of Heaven) has already joined the production playing the female lead Artemisia.

UPDATE: Jeff from ShowBlitz has confirmed to me that Sullivan is indeed playing General Themistocles.

Ruben Fleischer To Direct Gangster Squad?

L.A. Times reports Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is a candidate to direct Tales From The Gangster Squad. The other two directors named were Jose Padilha (Elite Unit) and Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart). All of these are fine choices but it would visually stunning to see Ruben tackle a period crime thriller. This could be a very similar to rise of another music video director turned horror filmmaker David Fincher. The only problem is that Ruben could be asked to shoot Zombieland 2, yet it's rumored it won't start production until the fall/winter of next year. The film is the story of the Los Angeles Police Department  fighting gangland wars and trying to stem the invasion of Mickey Cohen's East Coast Mafia in the 1940s and '50.
