Melissa McCarthy In Talks For GHOSTBUSTERS With Jillian Bell And Cecily Strong In The Mix

THR is reporting that Melissa McCarthy is finally in early talks to take a role in Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot. However, they are cautious since McCarthy's CBS series and other film projects could become an issue. Melissa has been linked for the film ever since it was announced, and seems like a lock.

On the other hand, we've seen a huge amount of other actresses Sony and Paul have met with. The list of ladies in the mix also include Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect) and Lizzy Caplan (The Interview, Cloverfield).

THR mentions two other names which are Jillian Bell (Eastbound And Down, Workaholics, 22 Jump Street) and Cicely Strong (SNL). Jillian was my favorite part of 22 Jump Street so I see where Feig and Sony are coming from. No, I have not watched Workaholics and I've heard she is excellent there as well.

It should be noted that Emma has been talking with Sony about the project even when it was still going to be the third sequel and not a reboot, they want her badly for the film. I just hope they go for comedians here.

Also, why the fuck is Sony only looking at white women? There seven actresses officially linked, and we know of a few others who haven't been named by trades (like Kristen Wiig). The commonality with all these ladies is that they're all white. I'm actually shocked Sony hasn't even tried to throw in a couple of names for appearance-sake. I would assume people of color still exist in New York City, and basically everyone else on the planet.

You'd think someone like rising comedian Mindy Kaling would be at least asked. She isn't even being mentioned for contention even though some of these ladies are in fact her peers. Being apart of the Apatow crew and having a wildly popularly series which is set in New York you'd think she'd get a shot.

I'm not even saying Mindy is the only female comedic actress of color out there perfect for this film. Dear White People's Tessa Thompson is a strong contender for me, since her breakout comedic performance. She also is apart of the sprawling cast of the acclaimed civil rights film Selma.

Hell, why aren't beloved comedians like Rashida Jones or Maya Rudolph even being mentioned? These two ladies are always killing-it in film and television. They are used extensively by Hollywood and Maya was the bride in Bridesmaids. Even Latina comedic actress Aubrey Plaza hasn't been approached, it's not like she's overly busy these days. I'm just appalled that we aren't seeing a more diverse casting search, while Sony can take some of this blame Paul Feig is at fault as well.

Ryan Gosling Expresses Interest To Sony About GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot

More email leaks concerning Sony's Ghostbusters reboot are coming out. A couple more have been dug-up by TheDailyBeast. One suggested that director Paul Feig is extremely interested in casting both Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone in roles. Jennifer earning three Oscar nominations and one win for the dark comedy Silver Linings Playbook, while Emma is looking to get some serious awards consideration for her role in Birdman.

A new email leak points-out actor Ryan Gosling has expressed interest in a role in Ghostbusters, apparently there is only one leading male role. Gosling grew-up during the era of the Ghostbusters craze, so it would sort of make sense he would be interested. It should be also noted that Emma Stone's involvement might have something to do with it, the two have played on screen couples in both Crazy Stupid Love and Gangster Squad.

Ryan hasn't been too interested in these type of roles, but was attached to Nicholas Winding Refn's Logan's Run remake. Until the director exited the project, and it eventually went into limbo. While going on record about disinterest about superhero films, he said he'd be apart of Refn's hypothetically Wonder Woman movie.  He was also recently reported to be the mix for both Marvel's Doctor Strange and Warner Bros' Suicide Squad. He could be choosing these big films based on his co-workers.

Lizzy Caplan And Amy Schumer Linked For GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot

Another day and another leaked Sony email. The newest one via TheDailyBeast concerns Sony's reboot of Ghostbusters with director Paul Feig's all-female concept. Well we've been hearing a few names of people who have met with the studio and Feig. They include Emma Stone (linked when it was Ghostbusters 3), Rebel Wilson and Jennifer Lawrence.

"Paul's movie is gonna be the first one and from what I'm hearing jennifer lawrence and Emma stone and Melissa McCarthy and Amy schumer and liszzy [Lizzy] Kaplan [Caplan] just to name a few have already said thy wanted to be in....,”

The email from Sony's Amy Pascal to producer Ivan Reitman confirms Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence are indeed in the mix for the reboot. Along with Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield, The Interview, Party Down) , Amy Schumer (Trainwreck) and Feig's lucky charm Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, The Heat). This is the first time hearing about comedic actresses Lizzy and Amy, making a lot of sense since the two are apart of their big comedy features Seth Rogen's The Interview and Judd Apatow's Trainwreck.

It's been assumed for ages that McCarthy was a lock for a role, similar to Emma Stone being linked since the studio resurrected sequel development. Both getting the Bill Murray bump, previously working with him in Zombieland and St. Vincent.

I'm digging this lineup, but hopefully we get more diversity.

Jennifer Lawrence Also Met About GHOSTBUSTERS, Everyone Waiting On Finished Script

Sony really seems to be aiming-high for the new cast of Ghostbusters. Just yesterday it was revealed that rising comedian Rebel Wilson has talked to the director about taking a role. Now, a funny casting Q&A video from MTV UK had Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle) confirm she also met with director Paul Feig. Of course, everyone is still waiting-on a completed script from writer Katie Dippold, but this all sounds promising. Jennifer also charmingly admits not even knowing their was a second film, I'm sure Bill Murray would have a giggle to that comment.



We should be expecting a cast of at least four-five ladies (if not more), there are plenty of roles to go around in the reboot. Stacking the lineup with Jennifer, Rebel and Emma Stone would be wonderful. This sort of speaks to Sony pursuing younger actors for the leads. Hitting their demographic as hard as they possible can with actors from Spider-Man, Hunger Games and Pitch Perfect. Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are still assumed to be apart of it, but it's still early and everyone in the mix are waiting for a script.

I'm a bit shocked we haven't seen more diverse casting choices. I'd love to see actresses like Mindy Kaling (Mindy Project) or Tessa Thompson (Dear White People) considered as well. Since, this seeming doesn't reflect a modern Manhattan, if they are still setting the film there.

Rebel Wilson Confirms Meeting With Director Paul Feig About GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot

While speaking with NBC's TodayShow Aussie comedic actress Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect, Pain And Gain) confirmed taking a meeting with director Paul Feig about a role in his female-led Ghostbusters reboot. Giving the impression she hasn't seen a completed script. It was recently confirmed that Katie Dippold (The Heat, Parks And Rec) would be working on the new script. Wilson had a small role in Feig's Bridesmaids, so I'm sure with her current popularity they wanted to see if they could find her a role.



Sony's "it-girl" Emma Stone (Easy A, Superbad, Zombieland, Amazing Spider-Man, Birdman) has been linked to the film since it was still considered Ghostbusters 3, and other ladies mentioned include Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy. Rebel paired with Emma (given the Bill Murray approval), makes this sound like the studio is aiming for a much younger cast. This could attract a younger audience which makes sense since the films are scary but still for kids.

Director Paul Feig Confirms All-Female GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot Is A Go!

Writer and director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) was in-talks with Sony to come-up with a new angle for a Ghostbusters reboot. His idea is to gender-swap the film, and give us an all-female lineup. A bold move, and one that fans and critics of the third film have embraced. It even caught the attention of Bill Murray, who loved the premise and even named women he'd like to see get roles. A couple of them being Krisen Wiig, Emma Stone and Melissa McCarthy. Perfect suggestions if I ever heard them. Stone was actually in early talks with Sony back when it was still going to be Ghostbusters 3.

Paul has taken to Twitter to confirm the project is a go, and they've also hired a writer for it. Feige says that Katie Dippold will write the script. Katie is best known for her work on the NBC series Parks And Rec, along with Feig's recent comedy The Heat. We have no idea if the studio will greenlight this script, but it seems like the all-female concept is a winner so far.

ZOMBIELAND Director Ruben Fleisher In The Mix For GHOSTBUSTERS 3?

During the recent Ant-Man madness concerning who will replace Edgar Wright, a tidbit was dropped about Ghosbusters 3. TheWrap reveals that Sony is considering Zombieland's Ruben Fleisher (Gangster Squad, 30 Minutes or Less) to the direct the film, after Ivan Reitman exited. The studio seems hellbent on getting this movie made.

We know that Bill Murray wants nothing to do with the film, but did work with Ruben on Zombieland. Which did homage Murray's iconic role in Ghosbusters. Emma Stone and Jonah Hill were pursued for the two new leads, the former was also in Zombieland. I'm not entirely sure if we'll end up getting our Peter Venkman ghost cameo, but at least we know Fleisher respects the original material.

LEGO MOVIE Directors Wanted For GHOSTBUSTERS 3 And Will Jonah Hill Finally Take A Lead Role?

After the passing of legendary comedic actor, writer and director Harold Ramis, it seemed the Ghostbusters 3 production was in trouble. The studio was still keen on moving forward, even when director Ivan Reitman (who has been rolling out crappy films over the last decade) exited the project. A new update from NikkiFinke suggests that Sony is considering the directing-duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The pair that gave us two Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs installments, The Lego Movie and 21/22 Jump Street. It's possible the film could begin production in early 2015.

Their Jump Street connection to Jonah Hill makes perfect sense, as Sony was begging Jonah and Emma Stone to take lead roles in Ghostbusters sequel (via SchmoesKnow). Last we heard, Emma had passed and Hill was still in active talks. Considering, Hill has made both Jump Street films with the pair of directors, it might be a way to coax the two-time Oscar nominee to be the face of the sequel. As they have a steady track record of hits under their belts.

That said, there hasn't been an update concerning the new cast since the recent production shake-up. Personally, I think they should minimize the roles of Ray and Winston. Allowing a brand new cast to really take-over the film. Since Bill Murray has completely distanced himself, they should try to limit the scenes with the two original team members.

Sony Rehires AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Writers To Work On AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 Script

THR reports that Sony has hired screenwriters to start work on Amazing Spider-Man 3. They've brought back Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner, who wrote Amazing Spider-Man 2. Nothing is really known about the third film for sure, but it's been hinted that the death of Gwen, Green Goblin, an introduction to Mary Jane Watson and The Sinister Six could be involved. The film will be released on June 10th, 2016 with Andrew Garfield and others expected to reprise their roles.

Christoph Waltz To Play Villain While Emma Stone And Margot Robbie In Talks To Replace Jessica Chastain In TARZAN

Variety reports two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz is in talks to play the villain in Warner Bros. updated take on Tarzan. Alexander Skarsgard is set to play Tarzan while Jessica Chastain recently dropped out of the role of Jane. They go on to mention that actresses Emma Stone (Amazing Spider-Man 1-2) and Margot Robbie (Wolf of Wall Street) are being looked at for Jane, along with others. David Yates, who directed the latter Harry Potter films is set to helm the film. Samuel L. Jackson had been linked for a supporting role but it's possible production of Age of Ultron could be an issue.

Sony Confirms AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 (2016) And AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4 (2018) Are Being Released

Sony has confirmed that they are setting release dates for Amazing Spider-Man 3 (June 10th 2016) and Amazing Spider-Man 4 (May 4th 2018). We've been hearing rumblings of Amazing Spider-Man 3 already on the books for the studio which could lead to Green Goblin alongside the Sinister Six. However, this is the first time hearing about further plans of a fourth film.

No word if they've signed director Marc Webb for the two sequels but it's very likely they've already made a deal. Andrew Garfield is expected to be locked in as Spidey and it's up in the air who else will be returning from Amazing Spider-Man 2. This seems like to combat previous talk that Sony's financial problems could lead the studio to sell the Spider-Man rights. Opening a small chance that Marvel/Disney could reclaim Spidey for the MCU.

I can't say I'm surprised by the high profiled actors lining up for roles in Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak. This week saw the addition of Benedict Cumberbatch and now THR reports that two time Oscar nominated actress Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) will have a role as well. Chastain previously worked on the del Toro produced ghost triller Mama and co-starred with Stone in The Help. Production begins on the haunted house flick early next year.

Chris Cooper Will Play Norman Osborn (Green Goblin) In AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

THR reports that Chris Cooper (American Beauty, Bourne Identity, The Town, Jarhead) will take the role of Oscorp founder Norman Osborn in Amazing Spider-Man 2. The character is best known as the identity of villain The Green Goblin, along with the father of Peter's best friend Harry (Dane DeHaan). Not to mention being yet another of Parker's tragic father figures.

We already know that Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Rhino (Paul Giamatti) will be in the film and it's starting to sound like the Sinister Six will be revealed in the sequel. Colm Feore and Felicity Jones recently joined the production it's likely they'v been hired for Daily Bugle roles J. Jonah Jameson and Betty Brant. However, it's very possible they could be taking a page from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 script making them the Vulture and Black Cat.
