Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT Starts Shooting; Zoe Bell And Channing Tatum Confirmed

The Weinstein Company via The Wrap has announced production on Quentin Tarantino's 8th film The Hateful Eight started rolling and have revealed a majority of the cast.

In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…

The announced cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, and Channing Tatum.

This is first studio confirmation that Tatum has indeed joined the lineup.

New additions are Zoe Bell, James Parks, Dana Gourrier, Keith Jefferson, Lee Horsley, Craig Stark, Gene Jones and Belinda Owino.

Oscar Nominee Demian Bichir Joins Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT

Deadline reports that Oscar nominated actor Demian Bichir (Savages, Machete Kills, The Bridge, A Better Life) and Channing Tatum (Haywire, Foxcatcher) have finalized deals to take roles in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. Production is expected to begin in December, a year before it's release. There is also talk the film will have it's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next year. Channing Tatum Could Have A Small Role In Quentin Tarantino's HATEFUL EIGHT

Deadline is reporting that Channing Tatum is circling a small role in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. This likely due to his breakout performance in the Oscar buzzed Foxcatcher. It also doesn't hurt that he's been knocking-out awesome comedic roles in 21-22 Jump Street and his hilarious cameo in This Is The End. This might be similar to Jonah Hill's small role in Django Unchained.

Confirmed cast members include Samuel L Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth and Walton Goggins. Jennifer Lawrence and Viggo Mortenson have previously been rumored for roles.

Tatum also portrayed the real-life gangster Pretty Boy Floyd in Michael Mann's Public Enemies. Quentin has talked about making his own cinematic take on the gangster genre, name dropping Pretty Boy as a possible character. Channing's role in Mann's film was actually cutdown greatly, so Tarantino could use him and audiences really wouldn't be confused.

Jennifer Jason Leigh Reportedly Takes Female Lead In Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT

TheWrap is reporting that Jennifer Jason Leigh (Fast Times At Ridgemount High, Spectacular Now) has landed the female lead in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. Jennifer would take the role of female-prisoner Daisy Domergue. The western is about to begin shooting soon, and other cast members are expected to be announced.

RUMOR: Quentin Tarantino Wants Viggo Mortensen For A Role In THE HATEFUL EIGHT

Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight won't be shooting until this winter, but the casting rumors are already flying around. NewYorkDailyNews (via ThePlaylist) is reporting on pretty damn cool rumor, that Quentin Tarantino has met with actor Viggo Mortensen about playing a "ruthless gang leader". However, their source is a hotel guest and doesn't seem like the most reliable intel. That said, Viggo working with Tarantino doesn't seem that out of place. Mortensen gravitates towards more passionate filmmakers, and Quentin has a lot of that.

Previously over the summer, Jennifer Lawrence was being courted for a leading role. It seems like Tarantino's script rewrites have expanded the original roles. Possibly allowing for some serious stunt-casting, which could help draw-in audiences. The way having Leonardo DiCaprio playing the main villain in Django Unchained, helped make that film becoming Tarantino's biggest earners to date.

Having both Jennifer and Viggo on board, could get the attention of a audience members. I'm not entirely sure the massive Hunger Games following are massive fans of Tarantino's work. It could be a  great way to tap-into a huge group of female viewers, who usually don't pay to see his films. The film shoots this winter, and will be released sometime in December, 2015.

RUMOR: Jennifer Lawrence In Talks For Quentin Tarantino's HATEFUL EIGHT?

Quentin Tarantino is finally moving forward with his next film The Hateful Eight. The script leaked last year and Quentin sounded like he was going to shelve the western all together. Calmer-minds prevailed and Quentin instead put-on a live-read of the script instead. Casting a majority of the roles with actors that would presumably be apart of the film as well. Shooting is expected to take place early next year, with a release date aimed for December, 2015. A similar date to Tarantino's commercially successful Django Unchained.

While it's assumed that Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson and others from the live read would be returning. Collider has word that a very popular actress is in talks for a role in the film as well. They claim that Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook, Winter's Bone, Hunger Games) could end-up taking a role in the winter-set western.

The role isn't mentioned, but prisoner Daisy Domergue might be a role that get's a recasting. Originally, Amber Tamblyn played the role during the L.A. live-reading. It's quite possible that Lawrence might be recast into the lineup, or that Quentin has added more characters during his recent rewrites. Tamblyn had a very brief cameo in Django, so it's possible she might be kept in her existing role as Daisy.

TheWrap has contacted Jennifer's reps, who deny any involvement in the project.

Let's just remember that Tarantino's current trend is to hire at least one bankable name for a key role in films. Brad Pitt was the big name attached to Inglourious Basterds, and Leonardo DiCaprio in Django Unchained easily helped it's box office numbers (becoming Quentin's most successful release). It's possible adding someone with the awards background and commercial success that Lawrence brings to the table, would be a viable reason to add her to the lineup.

Tarantino Says HATEFUL EIGHT Still Shooting Next Winter, Cast Revealed With Live-Read?

A group of people were lucky enough to view a live-read of Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. At the event, Tarantino confirmed he is currently writing the second draft, which conclude with a third draft before shooting starts next Winter, as originally planned. This whole process must have reenergized the director, as we thought the script leak (which happens with all his films) took it's toll. A release date hasn't been mentioned, but a fall/winter spot in 2015 is very likely, for awards consideration.

The live-read cast included a bunch of linked/rumored actors, along with new and familiar players as well. I have to assume that Tarantino will try to get these actors set in the roles they played in the read. The group of actors included Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Django Unchained) as Major Marquis Warren, Kurt Russell (Death Proof, The Thing, Escape From New York) as John "The Hangman" Ruth, Amber Tamblyn as Daisy Domergue, James Parks (Death Proof, Kill Bill) O.B., Walton Goggins (The Shield, Django Unchained) as Chris Mannix, Tim Roth (Four Rooms, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs) as Oswaldo Mobray, Michael Madsen (Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs) as John Gage , Denis Minochet (Inglourious Basterds) as Frenchman Bob, and Bruce Dern (Django Unchained, Nebraska) as the vile Confederate General Smithers. Other supporting roles included Zoë Bell (Death Proof, Django Unchained, Kill Bill) as New Zealand bounty hunter Six-Horse Judy, Dana Gourrier (Django Unchained) as Minnie and James Remar (Dexter, Django Unchained, Warriors) as Jody. It's an amazing group of actors and I really hope to see a majority of them playing these roles in the film. Oddly enough, Christoph Waltz wasn't represented in the read, I assume the rewrites would add other roles.

RUMOR: Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT Back On With Sam Jackson?

It's starting to sounds like Quentin Tarantino has calmed down about the leak of his HATEFUL EIGHT script. The current rumor circling is that he's pushing forward with script rewrites and is talking with Samuel L. Jackson about taking a lead role. I've been hearing this rumor over the week from different sources, but Jeff over at TheWrap is posting it on his Twitter account, being clear it's only a rumor at this point. I'd love for it to be true, but unless it comes out of the mouth of Quentin, we never really know if it's actually going to happen.

I really hope we end up hearing new names such as Michael K. Williams (in the running for Django) and Kurt Russell (dropped out of Django), being in the mix for the film. No matter what happens, we should expect Christoph Waltz will also have a role.

Quentin Tarantino Cancels THE HATEFUL EIGHT Production Over Script Leak

Sad news for Tarantino fans, as the director has announced to Deadline that his production of The Hateful Eight has been put on hold. Quentin had hand delivered scripts to three potential actors, who shared it with their agents. Two of the three agents are under suspicion of leaking the script to other agents/actors. This has made Quentin so furious, that he's shutdown production on the project all together, and is aiming to publish the script as a novel instead.

The three actors in question were Tim Roth, Bruce Dern and Michael Madsen, one of the latter two are believed to involved in the leak. Tarantino hadn't even showed the western screenplay to either Christoph Waltz or Samuel L. Jackson, who were also expected to have lead roles in the film. It sounds like he was slighted by people he considered friends and is turned off to the project over the leak. The film's production wasn't even expected to begin until next winter, which puts doubt when his next film could happen.

Tarantino doesn't rule out coming back to make The Hateful Eight down the road, but is looking to another project which he'll make first. Giving the impression it could be five to six years before we see Eight back in production. It's hard not to consider how awesome a straight-up western would have been, but Quentin has lots of projects in the works at the moment. One of these rumored projects is a 30's era gangster flick, which I'm currently rooting for to be next.

Christoph Waltz And Bruce Dern Might Join Quentin Tarantino's Western THE HATEFUL EIGHT

Quentin Tarantino's next project is coming together nicely, according to Deadline. A first draft of his western script is going out to potential actors, which include Christoph Waltz and Bruce Dern (Nebraska, The Burbs). The working title is The Hateful Eight, a possible homage to The Magnificent Seven (a western remake of The Seven Samurai). THR adds that the production is aiming for a summer start.

Tarantino's KILLER CROW To Focus On Black WWII Soldiers' Warpath To Switzerland

While Quentin Tarantino is relishing in the current commercial and critical success of both Inglorious Basterds and the newly released Django Unchained. There had been talk of these films being apart of an unofficial trilogy. It had been thought that Christoph Waltz would be the key factor in all three films. The third film has been given a working title by Quentin according to an interview with TheRoot (via ThePlaylist). Tarantino envisions Killer Crow as a film that could include a lot of excluded material from Inglorious Basterds. There had been a sub-plot that included black soldiers that didn't end up making the film. Talk of a Basterds-prequel also hinted to this story of black WWII soldiers story being explored. He confirms that half a the Killer Crow script is already finished. While this sounds promising, recent talk from Tarantino suggests his 30's era gangster film could be closer to production.

"There's something about this that would suggest a trilogy. My original idea for 'Inglourious Basterds' way back when was that this [would be] a huge story that included the [smaller] story that you saw in the film, but also followed a bunch of black troops, and they had been f--ked over by the American military and kind of go apes--t. They basically -- the way Lt. Aldo Raines and the Basterds are having an "Apache resistance" -- [the] black troops go on an Apache warpath and kill a bunch of white soldiers and white officers on a military base and are just making a warpath to Switzerland... I was going to do it as a miniseries, and that was going to be one of the big storylines. When I decided to try to turn it into a movie, that was a section I had to take out to help tame my material. I have most of that written. It's ready to go; I just have to write the second half of it... That would be the third of the trilogy. It would be [connected to] 'Inglourious Basterds,' too, because Inglourious Basterds are in it, but it is about the soldiers. It would be called 'Killer Crow' or something like that."

It's more than likely Killer Crow will end up starring Jamie Foxx and Samuel L. Jackson along with actors that previously were trying out for the role of Django. They included Anthony Mackie, Idris Elba, Will Smith, Michael Kenneth Williams, Terrence Howard, Larenz Tate and Chris Trucker. The Swiss setting could also allow a new crop of talented European actors to be considered as well.

The Basterds will be back and it's expected that Brad Pitt's Lt. Aldo Raine will be returning. Depending on the film's timeline we could also see Eli Roth's Donny Donowitz as well.

KILL BILL 3 Not Happening Afterall?

WeGotThisCovered asked about the status of Kill Bill 3 to Quentin Tarantino who didn't give the impression it's actually going to happen. His response sounds a bit troublesome for Kill Bill fans expecting a final installment. Yet for Tarantino fans we know to expect this from him. He had previously tried to make a Vega Brothers (Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs spin-off) film which never happened. There was even talk of an Inglorious Basterds sequel/prequel before Django was chosen as the next film. This could mean that Quentin is going to focus on other ideas he's been trying to put together instead of making something he's already done.

“I don’t know if there’s ever going to be a Kill Bill. Vol 3. We’ll see, probably not though.”

He's been talking up his 30's era gangster film recently and could very well be next for him. Tarantino has previously stated he wants to direct 10 films then retire. This could mean that he's going to axe sequels if a project captures his interest. A similar way how Django Unchained ended up becoming his follow up to Inglorious Basterds. I wouldn't be shocked to see him choose his last two-three (depending if Kill Bill 1-2 is considered one film) projects more carefully if they're going to be this successful commercially and critically. Quentin being more posed to earn awards for original material rather than rehashing with sequels. He's also talked up making a traditional western and I would assume he'd also want to make a samurai film at some point too.

Tarantino Reaffirms Plans To Make 30's Era Gangster Flick

 Quentin Tarantino's eighth film Django Unchained will be finally released on Christmas Day but it's currently unknown what's next for the writer/director. He's currently mulling over a couple of projects including an adaptation of Len Deighton's spy novels and is writing Kill Bill 3 (maybe Kill Bill 4 as well). However, one that Quentin has mentioned more recently is a Pretty Boy Floyd-like 30's gangster film. It had been mentioned that he would make another film before production starts on Kill Bill 3. BleedingCool has word that Quentin brought up the project again while speaking at BAFTA.

"I could conceive maybe someday doing a 30′s gangster picture, or something like that. I could think of doing another western, actually."

Tarantino has been hinting about a Christoph Waltz trilogy assuming that Basterds and Django being the first two installments. Could this gangster film be the end for his Waltz trilogy? We know that Deadwood greatly inspired Django Unchained as Quentin hired a bunch of actors from the show and even used their old sets. I have a good feeling that Boardwalk Empire starring Reservoir Dogs' Steve Buscemi is giving Tarantino a bunch of ideas for this gangster film. He's also waxed poetic on Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time In America which is considered the gem of the genre.



Quentin has stated he would be only making ten films before walking into the sunset and retire from directing. It's unknown how serious he is about that statement but you never know with him. He may decide to scrap plans for Kill Bill 3 and make passion projects instead.

Frank Ocean And Rick Ross To Provide Music For DJANGO UNCHAINED

ThePlaylist has dug up some interesting news concerning the music of Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. Hip-Hop artists Frank Ocean and Rick Ross will be contributing to the Django Unchained soundtrack. They also mention that John Legend submitted a track to Jamie Foxx. It should be noted that Foxx is a musician himself so expect to hear something from Jamie along with Quentin's good friend The Rza as well.

Quentin Tarantino has stated to TotalFilm (via ThePlaylist) that his films Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained are apart of a trilogy. While he doesn't state what the next installment is it's very likely actor Christoph Waltz will have a role in it. The main theme of the last two pictures has been period pieces and which could hint to what is next. There has been talk of Quentin wanting to make a Pretty Boy Floyd-type gangster film. If I had to bet what was next for Tarantino it would be shooting this gangster film before rolling on the untitled sequel to Kill Bill.

"'Inglourious Basterds' and 'Django Unchained' bespeak a trilogy," the director says. "As different as they are, there is a companion piece quality. There might very well be a third one. I just don’t know what it is yet.”
