Cobie Smulders Frontrunner For Maria Hill In Avengers

Deadline has word that Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) is the frontrunner for the role of SHIELD agent Maria Hill in Joss Whedon's Avengers. They say that she was also a candidate for Wonder Woman when Whedon was working on that film.  I'm not too familiar with Cobie's television work but she definitely has the look for it. Other actresses rumored for the role include Morena Baccarin, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jessica Lucas.

Hill does fit the Nick Fury sidekick position perfectly and could end up being a pivotal part of future Marvel films. As the role is rumored to have a nine-picture option attached to it. I really hope this leads to the SHIELD film that's been talked about years. That film would likely feature Nick Fury, Agent Coulson, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Maria Hill and possibly others (Bucky, Captain America, Union Jack).
