There had been rumblings of problems with the production of The Wolfman. Talks of re-shoots and release dates being pushed back. Along with new editors and composer being hired. It sounded like Universal was taking the film in a different direction. Now it seems that direction could be for the better. /Film reports that film is officially rated R. It had been expected the film would be PG-13 to the horror of genre fans. I had noticed similarities to this project and Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula and would hope they bring back blood and gore. It looks like we'll get our wish. It's running time looks to be increased as well.

Red Dawn is sounding more and more like a great action flick. I'm surprised they aren't trying to release this for the summer. Producers are very happy with the production and the work director Dan Bradley is doing. They compare the film to Call of Duty which isn't that hard to picture. Since they've been rolling tanks on the set in Detroit and blowing this up with lots of gunfire in the background. Above is an image of Thor himself Chris Helmsworth on the set.

We haven't heard much about the development on Gears of War since the addition of screenwriter Billy Ray (State of Play). Producer Wyck Godfrey spoke about the direction they're going with. They are aiming for a Emergence Day origin story and the film could focus on the whole event. This means we might get more of a Cloverfield type film rather than full out science fiction actioner like Aliens. I believe budget limitations could be an issue because of the film's expected violence and assumed hard R rating. Along with the fact they've been talking developing it into a trilogy and the whole story would be used.

"The hard part is to make it into something that doesn't feel like a world torn asunder and people just in battle. I think we really want to focus on the idea of a world that's running well and then it's Emergence Day. Kind of make it impactful and immediate and like what those 48 hours are as people survive Emergence Day.....more like CLOVERFIELD or something like that"

I haven't been following many comedies after some major disappointments this year. I've learned to be very cautious with the genre. Which is becoming mediocre with the massive amounts of horrible rom-coms. I've tried to stick with action-comedies lately. So when I hear about great concept films like MacGruber and Paul they peek my interest. They've been running test screenings for MacGruber and it's apparently the best SNL film since Wayne's World. That is a big statement considering the film is unfinished without final music, editing and special effects. I'll be patiently waiting to see a trailer which should be released by the end of the year.

Hero Complex is reporting that Josh Brolin (Jonah Hex) is in talks for a leading role in Men In Black 3. It's unknown if he'll play an agent or alien. The hiring of screenwriter Etan Cohen got me interested in the sequel initially. Cohen was a co-writer on Tropic Thunder and Mike Judge's Idiocracy.
