I saw this coming yesterday but io9 was able to speak with producers from Alcon Entertainment about their Blade Runner project. They mention Christopher Nolan as their dream director to work on sequel/prequel along with involvement from Ridley Scott. They previously produced Nolan's thriller Insomnia.
“Our friend Chris Nolan who we did ‘Insomnia’ [with] would be in the pie in the sky for us. I think the methodology that Chris Nolan brought to ‘Batman’ is precisely what we aspire to whomever the filmmaker is, whether Ridley comes back and joins us or it’s someone else. It’s precisely what we aspire to with ‘Blade Runner,’ that’s the template for us.”
Nolan is one of the most talented "new wave" of directors and would be my top choice too. As he's leaving Batman and doesn't have anything set in stone when he's finished with The Dark Knight Rises. I'm sure if it's offered to him he'd get total control as he would with his original projects. I believe he could really do something special within the world of Blade Runner while being faithful to the original film.
