Darren Aronofsky's Robocop (2010)

The 80's cult smash hit Robocop is getting an update/remake. It's unknown who will be writing or directing at this point. But the plan is to reboot the franchise with a present day version of the cyborg who fights crime. The studio plans to keep the subject matter with an restricted rating in mind. Which is a good thing because the shocking ultra violence gave the film such a dark feeling.

Update: Director Darren Aronofsky (The Fountain, Requiem for A Dream) has been hired to direct the remake and wants it set in a gritty futuristic city. He is a perfect fit for this film, I was worried but not when his name came up. Darren has an ability to make dark themes into beautiful films I can't wait to see his vision of the cult classic.

I really don't know what the source of the material is for the Robocop reboot. If the studio wants to please fans of the original film they will have to bring back the gritty violence. Frank Miller's Robocop comic series would be perfect. With Robocop 2 Miller's original script was heavily edited through rewrites as it was deemed unfilmable. The original script was adapted in 2003 by Steven Grant into the comics series, Frank Miller's RoboCop.
