Jessica Chastain Still Wants To Join A Marvel Film

Oscar nominated actress Jessica Chastain talked to TotalFilm about having to turn down a role in Iron Man 3. You might remember Jessica was offered a supporting role but would have to turn it down due the production of Karthyrn Bigelow's (Hurt Locker) Zero Dark Thrity (Seal Team Six film). The role would eventually go to Rebecca Hall. Jessica is being very political about it and seemingly gives the impression would could see her involved in future Marvel films. Theres plenty of roles she could be perfect for such as Enchantress, Scarlet Witch, Sharon Carter, Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel) and Medusa (Inhumans). She seems a little too high-profile for just small supporting role. I could see Chastain taking a role that would eventually become a franchise. Similar to how Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner were introduced in the Marvel films.

"It's always a good problem to have because it means you have options. It's not really a problem, but it was just impossible, schedule-wise. So I was sad. I met Shane Black earlier and I think he's going to make an amazing film. And of course I went to see Avengers Assemble earlier and I loved it. I hope to be in a Marvel film."

Chris Hemsworth Wants Charlize Theron To Play Enchantress

Charlize Theron is having a massive comeback as the Oscar winning actress received critical praise for her role in last year's Young Adult. Along with commercial success thanks to Snow White And The Huntsman and this weekend's Prometheus. Theron could have been in the mix for another big project if she wasn't set to make Mad Max: Fury Road alongside Tom Hardy this summer. Her Huntsman co-star Chris Hemsworth was asked by MTV to comment on Enchantress in the sequel and the fan-casting of Charlize.

"I don't know much at all but it sounds interesting," Chris Hemsworth told MTV when asked for his thoughts on the recent Enchantress rumours. "I'm not playing the usual, sidestepping that we normally have to do, I haven't read a script. They have a bunch of different ideas, but that sounds interesting." After being told that his Snow White and the Huntsman co-star Charlize Theron is a fan favourite for the role, he said: "Oh right. Well she certainly plays a pretty intimidating villain, I think she'd be awesome but I think she's tied up in 20 other films. I think she's going on to 'Mad Max' next. [But] you never know. Fingers crossed!"

 It sounds like she would have had a decent shot if wasn't for being busy this summer with Fury Road. Nothing is set in stone concerning Enchantress as the Asgardian hasn't even been confirmed to be in the sequel. Marvel could hold off using Amora until they're able to cast Theron in the third film. Having another Oscar winner among the cast couldn't hurt. Considering that Thor 2 won't be released until November 2013 they "could" shoot scenes later in the production. Hell, even a cameo could be awesome.

Zachary Levi Could Be The New Fandral In 'THOR 2'

HeatVision reports that Marvel Studios is already gearing up to replace actor Josh Dallas in Thor 2. They say that Chuck star Zachary Levi is in early talks to be recast as Fandral. The interesting part here is that Levi was originally inline for role but his show Chuck was a conflict with Thor's production. Zachary had also lobbied for a role in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Josh Dallas Won't Be Playing Fandral In 'THOR 2'

EW has word that Thor actor Josh Dallas won't be reprising the role of Fandral in the sequel. His commitments to his television series is being blamed for scheduling conflict. You never know Marvel could be looking for a seasoned actor to replace Dallas. Since there had been talk of a possible Warriors Three spin-off eventually.

SPECULATION: Mads Mikkelsen Up For Malekith Or Sutur In 'THOR 2'?

It's starting to sound like the villain of Thor 2 is going to be a one of the big ones from Thor's limited rouges gallery. As Chris Hemsworth put down talk of Thanos being the baddie of the film stating they needed "a bigger fish". Kevin Feige has confirmed this by axing the Thanos rumor again stating he'll be a "future" villain giving the impression that he'll be saved for Avengers 2 or Guardians of Galaxy. Feige also mentions the villain of the Thor sequel will indeed be a "major new antagonist". Giving the impression that Loki, Skurge, Ulik and other supporting villains are not going to be the main threat of the picture. The only "major" unused Thor villains are Hela, Surtur and Malekith. Consideirng that Mads Mikkelsen is linked for this role it's likely down to Malekith and Surtur, which both would be excellent cinematic villains.

Kevin Feige Debunks Thanos In 'THOR 2' Rumor

Marvel's Kevin Feige spoke to Empire about the upcoming production of Thor 2. He confirms what Chris Hemsworth had been saying about the new facelift to Asgard along with commenting on the rumors of Thanos being the main baddie of the sequel. Kevin states they have a "majaor new antagonist" for the film who will likely be played by the rumored addition Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale). Thanos could be saved for a future film, perhaps Guardians of The Galaxy or Avengers 2.


"We're going to see the other side of Asgard. It's not all polished and golden in this film. And the events of Avengers will have affected Thor for sure. His relationship with Loki will continue to evolve, and the biggest part is Natalie and Thor returning with Jane Foster."

Mads Mikkelsen Is The Villain Of 'THOR 2'

ShowBlitz reports that Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royal, Clash of The Titans, Pusher 2) is in talks with Marvel to take the villain role in Thor 2. The part is unknown but at least we know the villain will be male excluding Hela. My guess is that Mads is likely inline to play Agardians Balder The Brave who is the rightful heir to Odin, former defender of the realms Tyr who was replaced by Thor or dark elf Malekith The Accursed. It's also possible he could be up for Surtur, Ulik or even Thanos. They also state that Hiddleston (Loki) will be a baddie again. I'm sure Mikkelsen's viking thriller Valhalla Rising had something to do with his casting.

Anthony Hopkins Wanted For Villain Role In 'RED 2'

Deadline reports that Anthony Hopkins is looking to take the baddie role of Edward Bailey in RED 2. The only issue would be his commitment to the production of Thor 2 as Hopkins reprises the role of Odin. Tony is expected to see more action in the Thor sequel since he won't be stuck in Odin-sleep. One thing going for both projects is that they will be filming in Europe which could greatly help the chances of Hopkins being able to do both. The cast so far includes Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee.

SPECULATION: Surtur Also A Possible Villain In 'THOR 2' ?

During a recent interview with MTV Chris Hemsworth was asked about the possibility of Thanos being the villain of Thor 2. Chris stated Thanos would be "too easy" and "we need a bigger fish". Could this mean giant fire god Surtur is on the table? There was a link to Surtur as well in Odin's Vault during the first film. The Eternal Flame was seen in the vault which is a mystical flame that cannot be extinguished. It was stolen from Surtur by Odin, Vili, and Ve Borson at the dawn of time so that Surtur could not light his sword and bring about Ragnarok. Without the Bifrost there isn't much stopping Surtur invading the other realms on the hunt for his sword and an army from Muspelheim invading Asgard to get his hands on the eternal flame.

Enchantress In 'THOR 2' Rumor Resurfaces

This sounds like a no-brainer but BleedingCool is re-sparking the rumor that Amora The Enchantress will be a new addition to Thor 2. It had been rumored weeks after Thor's original release date that Amora could be a possible villain in the sequel. The Enchantress is an Asgardian villain who uses her magic skills to help both Loki and Thor, as her loyalties are conflicted. We already know that director Alan Taylor is expected to double the Asgardian cast and Amora is one of the most recognized unused characters. Casting for the sequel should start soon as pre-production is currently underway.

Chris Hemsworth Comments On Possible 'HUNTSMAN' Spin-Off

During an interview with Google+ Aussie actor Chris Hemsworth gave a brief statement on the rumors of him starring in his own Huntsman focused spin-off. It had been reported that Universal hired screenwriter David Koepp to write a treatment for a sequel to Snow White And The Huntsman with Rupert Sanders expected to return as director. The catch is that the film would center around Hemsworth's character likely without Steward and Theron being involved. It's not surprising since Universal currently doesn't have a string of franchises to rely on. Chris has two rather strong franchises already with Thor and Avengers. It would be smart for the studio to capitalize if Snow White is successful as well.

“Yeah, sure, if there’s an audience for it and people wanna see it and there’s a great script and room to do something different with it, absolutely. I’ve heard probably the same rumors you have about possible sequels to this or prequels as far as the Huntsman’s storyline [goes]. We’re pretty elusive for the most of it; he begins having suffered some sort of trauma in a whole life before this point, and then at the end it’s left open as well. We had endless discussions about ‘where does he come from and why does he do this and what’s this about?’ and it all of a sudden opened up all these ideas about his whole life prior to this. I said, at one stage, ‘Maybe he could sort of spin-off into Cinderella world and then Sleeping Beauty, and he’s a Huntsman through the fairy tales,’ but that got shot down pretty quick (laughs).”

Dwayne Johnson Hinting He's Joining A DC Comics Film?

Dwayne Johnson (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Fast Five, Pain And Gain) is aiming to move into the world of comic book films. He's previously stated that he'd love a shot at Namor the Sub-Mariner and Luke Cage both excellent roles for film. Johnson was also loosely attached to play the god-like villain Black Adam in a possible Shazam! film. A recent response on Twitter gives the impression he very well could be in talks to join a DC movie. Unlike Marvel, there don't seem to be many options currently for the DC films.

The projects that come to mind are Lobo and Suicide Squad. One option is that he could end up playing a member of the group of DC villains forced into suicide missions as The Suicide Squad. Lobo is the closest to going into production as Brad Peyton replaced Guy Ritchie as the director. Brad will also make rewrites to the script which Don Payne (Simpsons, Thor, Thor 2) had originally wrote. To avoid another Jonah Hex or Green Lantern the studio will have to set the entire film on alien worlds and push for an R-rating. Lobo is a faul-mouthed violent biker bounty hunter who gives Superman a run for his money in hand-to-hand combat. He's one of the greatest DC anti-heroes and has been considered their version of Wolverine/Judge Dredd/Venom. Both seem like perfect movies for the new action star.

'THOR 2' Looking For Valkyries? Plus Idris Elba Talks And Kat Dennings Not Returning?

AICN revealed a casting-call sheet which is for looking for to fill roles in Thor 2. It seemly gives the impression that Marvel could be casting Asgardian warriors and The Valkyrior. Asgardian warriors are mostly men, so the assumption with the women they are casting would end up playing the fierce Valkyrie. We already know that this film will be mostly set in Asgard and the Asgardian population will be amped up.

VALKYRIES: The Valkyrior are a great army of Asgardian female (mostly blond) warriors lead by Brunhilde a blond warrior who carries a spear and rides a winged horse. She is also known as the strongest of the Valkyries and would later become a Defender/Avenger. They were once tasked on carrying fallen Asgardians and humans from the battle field to the great halls of Valhalla which is the realm of fallen heroes. When humans evolved they were restricted from bringing them to Valhalla so not freak out the now enlightened population. 

Idris Elba is on the promotional machine for his summer blockbuster Prometheus. He talked to Collider and MTV about his role perhaps being expanded in the sequel. There had been hopes with the Bifrost destroyed that Heimdall would end up getting more screentime and action scenes. 

"I'm actually excited about it," Idris Elba said. "I literally just did a costume fitting the other day." Revealing that he has already seen an outline of the sequel's story, he's mostly anticipating Heimdall's expanded role. "Definitely Heimdall's more involved, but also, what's more involved is who the Asgardians are," he said. "I think we'll see a sense of that. It's a huge film, 'Thor 2,' but I also think it's micro in a way that you start to look at people, who they are a little bit more."

"I’d just like to get to know him a bit more. Who is Heimdall? He guards the gate. Okay. Is there anything else? I don’t know what is in the script because I haven’t read it yet. But, the audience has responded to Asgard and wants to know more about who lives there and what it’s about. I’m sure, if they do that, Heimdall will be featured more."

Actress Kat Dennings was left off the last official call-sheet for Thor 2 which confirmed the return of the majority of the cast. Dennings was the exception, seemingly confirming that Darcy wouldn't be back for the sequel. Kat did an interview with Crave which she confirmed Marvel hasn't contacted her about the film yet. It's not looking good if the rest of the cast is set for the August production in London and have some sort of outline/draft of the script. It might not be personal coming down to sacrifices made to move the production to London.

"You know, I don't know. Marvel is so tight lipped, you never know anything. So I have no idea."

With the production heading to London, the country has acting union laws which restrict the number of American actors allowed to work in the country on one project. Natalie Portman (Jane), Jaimie Alexander (Sif), Josh Dallas (Fendral) and Rene Russo (Frigga) are the American actors already set to return. Not to mention the new additions Marvel will likely add to the cast. Since the studio likely won't want to be limited to casting only Brits. Thor had been shot in New Mexico where they don't share the same union restrictions. There is always the possibility she could end up having a cameo or be added later into the production. Nothing seems to be set in stone at this point. 

Thanos Showing Up In 'THOR 2' To Get His Hands On The Infinity Gauntlet?

While everyone is filing into theaters to see The Avengers, many will be clueless about the mid-credit bonus scene that featured a purple faced alien. This cameo was that of Marvel villain Thanos who was likely pulling the strings of Loki's army behind the scenes. Fans seem to be convinced that this was a teaser for Avengers 2. However, I believe this might be more connected with the Thor sequel. We know that Captain America 2 will follow Steve's experiences with SHIELD after the events of Avengers, along with his integration into the modern world. Iron Man 3 will see Stark stranded again without his armor or his Avengers pals including SHIELD to help him out. Thor 2 on the other hand seems to be the more mysterious of the three sequels.

All we really know is that Jane, Erik and Darcy will be in Asgard while Loki will take a backseat as the main baddie. The population of Asgard will be doubled meaning a much larger cast. Alan Taylor is taking inspiration from his series Game of Thrones as Asgard is getting a downgrade makeover. Focusing more on it's Norse roots instead of Flash Gordon inspired sets, we should expect a more rustic/grounded Asgard littered with ancient castles/towers/gates. Loki may or may not be fighting alongside Thor again as his brother.

Thanos could have a role in this film if only to claim Loki to repay his debt to him. Loki made a deal with Thanos to get an alien army to force his will upon Earth. Perhaps getting access to Odin's vault and stealing the Infinity Gauntlet is his payment. This cosmic item seen in Odin's vault is used by Thanos to kill half the population of the universe. This massive slaughter was an offering to Death (an actual being in female form) to show his love for her. It could lead to a conflict that might lead to Guardians of The Galaxy rather than straight into Avengers 2.

Asgard To Get A Grounded Makeover In 'THOR 2'

SlashFilm spoke to Chris Hemsworth about Thor 2 and Asgard might be getting a major facelift from Marvel/Taylor. One problem I had with Asgard is that it didn't look large/realistic enough. It was completely CGI and looked too small to have other kingdoms roaming behind the hills. Even a few of the sets (Odin's Vault) looked like apartment lobbies and beyond too contemporary for a fantasy film based on Norse mythology. From what I gather from this statement Marvel is aiming to make Asgard look a little less science fiction and more grounded fantasy. "Organic" and "Norse" gives me thoughts of large brick towers, rolling grassy hills, natural waterfalls, lush forests and more of a magical environment we attribute to the Lord of Rings franchise.

"I have read a script and we start shooting in August. I met with Alan Taylor a couple of months ago and Natalie Portman and I and Alan and a couple of Marvel guys and it was hugely exciting. Ken [Branagh] did such a wonderful job and, with scheduling or what have you, he didn’t end up doing this one, but I’m a big fan of the GAME OF THRONES series, which is Alan’s latest work, and I think that is what’s exciting about the second one: making it sort of more tangible and having a more organic feel to Asgard and that world. I think the science fiction element to THOR… the danger is it falls a little bit into the world of it’s “tough to throw a light to.” I think of big waterfalls and mountains and a Viking influence, where the Norse mythology kind of grew from. Having that in Asgard is going to make it all the more special and that’s what Alan wants to bring to it. I think that would be the new aspect to this one. "


I get the impression that Hemsworth and Marvel have been influenced by both fantasy projects Snow White And The Huntsman and Game of Thrones which have grounded sets in a large fantasy world. 
It's hard to argue that Alan Taylor is going to infuse a lot of gravitas to Thor 2 as it's new director. Taylor is best known for his television work that includes directing episodes of Game of Thrones, The Wire, Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire. One sure thing is that he can handle large casts giving while having a deeply serious brooding tone to his direction. His recent work on Game of Thrones is beyond impressive the first two episodes of season two helmed by Taylor have been the highest rated episodes so far. The greatest aspect is that he's been able to give the right amount of time to each character when there is so many characters in one series. Even more so this season where we get a new character in every scene. If anyone can expand Asgard and it's population it's going to be Taylor.

'SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN' Sequel To Focus On The Huntsman

Snow White And The Huntsman won't be in theaters until June but it looks like Universal Pictures loves what they've seen. The trailers and TV spots have had a decent impact compared to the box office bomb Mirror Mirror. BleedingCool picked up on a small tidbit in a THR article that states if successful Universal will be looking at a sequel focusing on The Huntsman played by Chris Hemsworth. I assume this means that director Rupert Sanders will also be returning for more films.

It's not hard to understand why Universal would want to develop a franchise around the Aussie actor. Hemsworth has been front and center along with Charlize Theron in the promotions for the film. He's already a fixture with two franchises Thor and Avengers. Not to mention his horror thriller Cabin In The Woods hits theaters next week and has been praised by bloggers/reviewers. He also has the Red Dawn remake set for a release later in the year. As a bonus it looks like Kristen Stewart won't be in this sequel.

Natalie Portman Wanted For The Counselor, Renner And Bardem Close In On Villain Role

Twitch is reporting that both Javier Bardem and Jeremy Renner are close to being cast as the villain in Ridley Scott's The Counselor. They also mention Oscar winner Natalie Portman (Black Swan, Thor 2) is in early talks for the female lead. The film that has Michael Fassbender  as a lawyer who tries to get into the drug trade with violent consequences.

Nothing is final on Portman joining the film as she is also in talks for the two Terrance Malick films which are currently in production. Natalie is also eyeing the lead in new Wachowskis project and has obligations to reprise her role of Jane Foster in the untitled sequel to Thor which shoots this Spring/Summer in London.
