Four Comic Book Franchise Roles Manu Bennett Could Be Perfect For

Above is an image of Aussie actor Manu Bennett performing the Haka with fellow actor Jason Momoa. It's a cool picture for a couple of reasons, it establishes Manu's Maori background and he's posing with an actor with a career I see him paralleling very soon.

Jason recently became Warner Bros' Aquaman in a multi-picture deal which includes Batman v Superman, Justice League Part 1-2 and his own Aquaman film.

I have a feeling Manu is going to be in this position very soon and could end-up reading for some big franchise roles. Thanks in part to playing Azog The Defiler in the Hobbit Trilogy and becoming a standout on CW's Arrow as Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke.

It's likely impossible to see the actor reprise that role in Zack Snyder's DC Comics cinematic universe. Since we've heard from studio heads that the TV and film universes are indeed separate entities. Even though David Goyer had been developing a Deathstroke film for the studio, it's very unlikely that role will go to Manu.

This just means Bennett could be open for a whole bunch of franchise comic book roles. I'm sure there will be a point where Fox, Marvel Studios and Warner Bros. could all be courting the charismatic Aussie. We saw a similar thing go down for Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa when they suddenly started landing on studio radars.

Which comic book franchise roles do I think Manu is best suited for?

CABLE:

Cable is a character known for his bulked-up stature which fits the bill for Manu. Not to mention his use of weapons that Bennett has lots of experience with. Having actors like Stephen Lang and Dwayne Johnson in the mix for fan campaigns it's more likely producers will look elsewhere. If fans can deal with Johnson playing Nathan Summers then they should be okay with Bennett playing him.

We've been hearing for years that X-Men producers are looking to explore ways to include Cable into the X-Men universe. While it's possible they could have him apart of X-Men Apocalypse, it's likely there might be too many things going on to bring back time-travel.

Jeff Wadlow's X-Force is seemingly the place for a solo Cable film which could see him founding or leading the covert team of mutants. Wadlow has said in the past Cable is a strong candidate for the film. However, other X-Men movies like Deadpool could leave the door open for cameos and supporting roles for him as well.

Fox could also just randomly announce a solo Cable film like they recently did with Channing Tatum's Gambit movie.

LOBO:

Trust me Warner Bros. will likely have eyes on Manu for something cinematic in the future. The one role I think could be a good fit is alien bounty hunter Lobo. An anti-hero biker character that peeked the interest in Jason Momoa before announcing he landed the Aquaman role.

Warner Bros has been developing a Lobo movie for ages. That was until DC Entertainment froze all the DC film projects, to pursue their own cinematic universe. Director Guy Ritchie would eventually leave Lobo to make The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and is now working on Knights of The Roundtable.

Actors such as Clancy Brown and Jeffrey Dean Morgan had been in talks with producer Joel Silver for the role. Jeffery Dean Morgan going so far as to do camera tests in costume but would later take the role of Thomas Wayne in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman. Giving the impression he wouldn't be going back to Lobo anytime soon.

Other actors such as Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa were thought to be linked because of their connections to possibly taking DC roles. It was later confirmed that Johnson would be playing Black Adam in Shazam and Momoa would be playing Aquaman in a bunch of movies including a solo film.

There had been speculation the character was going to be cast in either Batman v Superman or Justice League because of old Justice League script outlines including Lobo as a possible villain. It remains to be seen if the alien bounty-hunter ends up a villain before his solo outing.



San Andreas director Brad Peyton was recently tasked to develop a new version of the film but there hasn't been any updates since his announced involvement.

PUNISHER:

I've been kind of playing around in my head who could be best for this role in a reboot and luckily a lot of actors could play Frank Castle. My wish-list includes latino actors Edgar Ramirez (Zero Dark Thirty, Domino, Bourne Ultimatum) and Pablo Pascal (Game of Thrones). This could also be another gun-play character Bennett would be perfect for.

Marvel got the Punisher rights back that had been held by Lionsgate. The company has been sitting on the franchise but it's possible they could pursue a television series focusing on Frank Castle. Fox had commissioned a pilot for series but that didn't come together and it just vanished.

Marvel has been mainly focusing on family friendly entertainment when it comes to their film slate. This doesn't mean Marvel won't do something with the character sometime in the future. They could always make a Netflix series or film, the latter hasn't been talked about but could happen in the future. The studio producing low-budget R rated films could help balance the risk.

Rumblings had been circling that Marvel could put together a Punisher series at some point. Some believe it could be a strong candidate for the second wave shows for Netflix, but it sounds like the four shows already setup could get multiple seasons. A couple of people have suggested taking it to AMC or FXX because of it's violent content, but Netflix seems to do fine with material like that airing shows like House of Cards and Marco Polo.

Punisher has a lot of options if Marvel does decide on bringing him back to the big or small screen.

There has been interest from Marvel screenwriter Drew Pearce (Runaways, Iron Man 3) to get involved with a Punisher short which could lead to a series, perhaps on Netflix. Drew wrote and directed All Hail The King, a short which focused on Seagate Prison (connected to both Ant-Man and Luke Cage) revealing the existence of the real Mandarin.



Another interested party includes Knights of Badassdom and Everly director Joe Lynch stating on Twitter he'd love a crack at Castle. Lynch made his own Marvel short film entitled Truth In Journalism which focused on a dark version of Spider-Man villain Venom which was set in the "bootleg" Marvel universe.



I'd also like to see John Wick director Chad Stahelski considered as well. Keanu Reeves ended-up in the mix for Doctor Strange because of the deserved buzz the film received during early festival runs. Marvel's Kevin Feige showed-up to a public screening of the film which seemed to impress bloggers who attended it.

NAMOR:

Wouldn't it be wild if Marvel Studios or in partnership with Universal/Legendary Pictures did end-up making that Sub-Mariner film?

Manu's previous work experience with sword swinging characters in Spartacus and Hobbit would come into play becoming the Marvel opposite to Momoa's Aquaman. This could be a very fun character for Bennett since Namor has played both hero and antagonist in the comics.

Universal's Namor film hasn't been talked about in a very long time and the assumption is it's stuck in development limbo. Shocking, since the huge wave of popularity with Marvel films you'd think the studio would dust it off and try to put it back into production.

We know that Universal had plans on having Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3, Surrogates) direct it but the studio dropped the project entirely at some point. Jason Statham, the former professional diver turned action star had some interest in the project but was never formally offered the role.

I'm still a bit fuzzy on the actual rights agreement with Universal but if it's similar to Hulk. Marvel could be able to use him in a supporting role, similar to Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner in Avengers installments. If a new solo Hulk film was made by Marvel it's understood Universal would be involved in some way. Their deal for Namor could be the same if it even still exits.

Latino Review heard a rumor back in May of last year that a mystery Legendary Pictures film set for release in November 2016 could be a Marvel property. It's likely that the film they were talking about was actually either The Great Wall or Kong: Skull Island as both were set for that month. Skull Island recently moving it's release from early November to March 2017 to avoid Marvel's Doctor Strange.

Although, Latino Review felt confident in the story at the time.

If Marvel could be able to still use Namor he could become apart of the Inhumans storyline or even involved with Captain America: Civil War. As Namor is the original mutant character, he could be altered to become an inhuman instead to avoid conflict with the X-Men rights. Marvel is already seemingly giving mutants Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch new origins to include them into the MCU.

We know that even though Incredible Hulk was apart of the Universal/Marvel deal, Edward Norton was able to reprise the role in Avengers. Norton just happened to be apart of a bunch behind the scenes issues along with not promoting the film leading to his recasting. It's very possible if someone is cast as Prince Namor, they could play the role in both Universal and Marvel feature films. Allowing the actor to crossover in a bunch of different films without getting entangled with the rights issues.

RUMOR: Jason Momoa Signs-On To Play AQUAMAN In BATMAN VS SUPERMAN?

BatmanNews is stating that Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa (Stargate: Atlantis, Baywatch: Hawaii, Conan The Barbarian, Bullet To The Head) has signed-on to play an unnamed role in Batman Vs Superman. Trades like Variety and THR previously confirmed that Momoa was in talks for a part in the film. BN don't reveal which character he's playing, but mention the reliable BadassDigest was claiming that Jason Momoa was up for Aquaman a few months back. It does make sense, as Warner Bros. was been trying to develop an Aquaman film for a while now. And with someone like Momoa in the role it could lead to a spin-off. Considering all these heroes are going to be in one film, it does support LatinoReview's story that Batman Vs Superman and Justice League, could very well shoot back-to-back.

"I was recently told by a very, very trusted source that the role Jason Momoa was up for (but is currently denying) is definitely Aquaman, but it's essentially a cameo setting up the next movie. Momoa's denials today could just be a smokescreen intended to protect the surprise nature of the cameo, although if the films are shooting back-to-back we'll know soon enough."

We already expect solo films for Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and a new string of Batman films featuring Ben Affleck (possibly directed by as well). Momoa had also being in the mix for the role of Drax The Destroyer in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, but wasn't happy with the offer. Eventually getting his own spin-off film, or a pivotal role in Justice League sounds like a better move on Jason's part.

The Man of Steel "sequel", already has Batman, Wonder Woman and Cyborg as supporting characters. This sounds like BVS could end up like Iron Man 2 or The Amazing Spider-Man 1-2, only existing to setup future films. Something that tends to drag down character moments and detract from a single serving storyline. I'm still unsure why they just don't call this film Justice League, because it obviously won't be a Superman centred story with this many other heroes in supporting/cameo roles.

If Momoa indeed joins the cast he will star alongside Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Ray Fisher, Laurence Fishburne, Holly Hunter, Diane Lane, Callan Mulvey and Tao Okamoto. The untitled film's release date is set for May 6th, 2016.

Dwayne Johnson Confirms Meeting For DC Movie Role, Who Could He Be Playing?

2013 was a big year for Dwayne Johnson becoming the most bankable actor of the year, according to Forbes. A lot of us have been wondering, when Dwayne Johnson would make the jump to straight-up comic book films. He's currently testing the waters with G.I. Joe: Retaliation (also attached for G.I. Joe 3) and Hercules, both have origins linked to comics but started in other mediums.

We thought he was going to be landing on the side of Marvel because of his electric personality, however that doesn't seem to be. He was wanted for the role of Drax in Guardians of The Galaxy but turned it down for a starring role in Hercules instead. There had also been rumblings they were looking at him for the role of Luke Cage, the character is now getting his own Netflix series instead of a feature film. Something that would likely not be attractive to Johnson (along with other Cage contenders), since he's a legitimate action film star and is getting major offers from the big studios. 

A new Tweet from the man himself, might be serious confirmation that he's more likely getting a role within the DC film universe. Dwayne confirms a meeting with Warner Bros. about a DC role. He doesn't give details, but we some ideas of what it could be.

Johnson at one point was wanted for the role of Lobo, which at the time had director Brad Peyton attached to direct (Guy Ritchie had been originally attached). The pair previously worked together on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and will be re-teaming for the earthquake action flick San Andreas. The project had been priority at the studio at one point with Joel Silver producing and Guy Ritchie set to direct, and screen testing Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) for the lead. The film had a script from Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, Winter's Tale, Fringe) and in 2009 he spoke to the LATimes (via FirstShowing) about Ritchie being involved. 

"There's something hyperbolic and authentic about a Guy Ritchie movie. His best movie are deeply, deeply stylized yet they are all grounded; there's a grit of stylization, which sounds like an oxymoron but it makes perfect sense when you've seen his films," Goldsman said. "We've never seen Guy's sensibility married to a project with such a large special effects budget."

Guy would later exit the film to focus on Sherlock Holmes A Game of Shadows and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. which co-stars Henry Cavill. With Ritchie wrapping up The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (also at Warner Bros.) the director could be coaxed into coming back to direct. That's unless his Treasure Island film is ready to go next, as Deadline reported back in the summer that writers had been finally hired, the pirate film is setup at Warner Bros. 

Johnson spoke about the project earlier in the year, stating to MTV (via ScreenRant) it was currently off the table. Things change since DC is scrambling to find feature films (mostly with obscure characters) to roll out into theatres to compete with Marvel. Nothing is set in stone as the project had been revived once already. 

“It was [there] for a minute, but then it kind of just went away. As things happen in Hollywood sometime. For a minute I was interested in it (Lobo), then it went away.”

A member of Justice League has been assumed because Dwayne is the type of actor able to handle his own franchise. A bankable American action star (a rare breed these days) that has already re-energized franchises like Fast And Furious and G.I. Joe, having him headline a feature film for DC doesn't sound unlikely. We know more than a few these characters will be teased, cameo or have supporting roles in Zack Snyder's Batman Vs Superman. 

Characters such as Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Cyborg have been linked to appear in the film, and each could very well get their own standalone films. There is also the possibility he's being considered for the villain roles of Doomsday and Metallo, who are rumored for Batman Vs Superman. Seeing Johnson added to the mix would make sense if it led to a franchise down the line, but I don't really see him taking on one-shot villain role, unless it would allow him to be centre stage like Tom Hardy's Bane. He was once rumored for the new terminator role in Alan Taylor's Terminator: Genesis. 

One character I haven't seen mentioned is Deathstroke, who is expected to get his own feature which is being produced and possibly written by David Goyer (Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, Batman Vs Superman). The character will also play a major role in Suicide Squad, another Goyer produced DC feature that has been in development for ages. Both Squad and Deathstroke have been the more recent projects reported in development at Warner Bros. (along with Sandman), we have to assume that Deathstroke's future in the DCU could be big enough that it might attract Johnson. As we haven't heard officially or from trades that Warner Bros. is considering taking another crack at Green Lantern or giving Cyborg his own film, but Deathstroke seems like a character that could be huge. 

To be fair, we don't know for sure he's up for any of these roles, but it's something to consider when every blog is claiming different angles.

RUMOR: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Scott Adkins, Mark Strong And Bryan Cranston In The Mix For SUPERMAN VS BATMAN?

Apparently, Watchmen actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan is now in the mix for Batman according to ThinkMcflyThink. Matthew Goode, another Watchmen alumni had been linked for Superman Vs Batman as well. Jeffrey had been previously linked for the role of Lobo (rumored for Justice League) and even a possible Watchmen spin-off focusing on The Comedian. He even spoke to MovieHole about being involved with a Dark Knight Returns film back in 2009.

"I've heard Zack mention he'd like to do it in the media a few times recently. I'd love to see myself in that role. I don't think [Warner] will do it at the moment, not with what The Dark Knight is doing. But the studio loves Zack, and if Watchmen does as well as we hope it does, you never know, he might get a crack at this thing."

British action star/stuntman Scott Adkins (Expendables 2) might be in the mix as well. The martial artist has been campaigning for the part for a while now and seemingly has met with Warner Bros./ Zack Snyder about it. His Twitter account has posted a confirmation of sorts and included an image of Scott as the Caped Crusader. We've been hearing that the director wants a convincing fighter/scrapper for the role and Scott has some serious action chops. Then again, take this as a strong rumor.

There is also word (via LatinoReview & DigitalSpy) that both Mark Strong (Welcome To The Punch, Kick-Ass) and Bryan Cranston (Drive, Godzilla, Breaking Bad) are being considered for the villainous role of Lex Luthor. Strong had a bit part in The Green Lantern but has played a slew of awesome bad guys. Cranston has been making a splash over at WB which could help him land the iconic part. I also wouldn't be shocked if they're were considering re-casting Commissioner Jim Gordon with Bryan.

RUMOR: Rebooted Batman And Lobo To Be Featured In JUSTICE LEAGUE?

CBM is reporting that Warner Bros. is currently bouncing around the idea of bringing in Lobo into the the Justice League film. While nothing is confirmed Dwayne Johnson has been closely in talks with director Brad Peyton and producer Joel Silver for the solo movie. It's unknown if they'd have Lobo join the team or end up a villain.

On another note there are rumblings we won't have to wait long to see the rebooted Batman. BatmanOnFilm says that WB is looking to first introduce this new take on Batman in the Justice League film and then a new franchise.

"Said [Batman] reboot will come after the JL film, not before. Therefore, the new cinematic Batman will be introduced in the JL film as opposed to a solo film. This would, according to my industry "FOBOF," assure the new Batman film series will be part of a "DC Cinematic Universe."

Dwayne Johnson Confirms 'LOBO' Rumors

Lobo is finally moving forward with Brad Peyton set to direct replacing Guy Ritchie. Not too soon after that news it was rumored that Dwayne Johnson had been linked for the lead. Johnson himself answered a fan's question via Twitter which confirms he's at least in talks with producer Joel Silver and the studio.

“Rumors of me possibly playing LOBO are true. Joel Silver and Brad Peyton working on it now. That could be fun..”

Guy Ritchie To Direct 'TREASURE ISLAND'

Deadline reports that Guy Ritchie has finally announced his next directorial effort as he's signed on to direct and produce a new adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson pirate classic Treasure Island. Warner Bros. hopes Ritchie can work his magic on Treasure Island as he did with Sherlock Holmes, who can blame them since it's one of the more interesting franchises of recent memory. The only problem is that these sort of projects set on the high-seas are wildly extensive and can be disastrous at the box office. Pirates seemingly had an edge thanks in part to Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow. It'll be difficult to see how Ritchie will be able to cast someone to give the same iconic energy to the morally ambiguous Long John Silver and the young Jim Hawkins. The last time Ritchie made an island themed feature we ended up with a remake of Swept Away starring his then wife Madonna which almost ruined his career, as the film was poorly received. It look Guy a couple of films (Sherlock Holmes) before he could shake off the stigma that the remake had done. Hopefully this round he'll be very careful with cast choices.

It seemed to be a toss up to what Ritchie was going to make next with Sherlock Holmes 3 going under script development by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3, Runaways) but Robert Downey Jr. is slowing things down action film-wise after Iron Man 3. The Man From U.N.C.L.E., a 60's era spy adventure film that Guy became producer of when director Steven Soderberg left the project. His sequel to RockNRolla titled The Real RockNRolla had been long in development but with the original cast in such high demand it would be difficult to wrangle them back. Not to mention a string of previous projects he had been linked to such as Lobo, Sgt. Rock, Xerxes (300: Battle of Artemisia) and a remake of The Dirty Dozen.

SPECULATION: Dwayne Johnson Courted For 'SGT. ROCK' Not 'LOBO'?

There had been rumblings when Dwayne Johnson sent out a tweet hinting he might be up for a DC Comics superhero film that it could be Lobo. With his Journey 2 director Brad Peyton set to rewrite and helm Lobo the assumption lead to that movie. BleedingCool even reported on the rumor today from another source which they couldn't confirm. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, Losers) had long been linked for Lobo even doing a screentest, so he could still be in the mix.

Sgt. Rock may or may not be getting new life at Warner Bros., Johnson could also be up for this role too. Dwayne is headlining G.I. Joe: Retaliation (a reboot of sorts) it wouldn't be hard to see him jump into another franchise with lots of firepower. The current vision for the Sgt. Rock film would see the hard boiled soldier fighting in a futuristic war, switching up the original WWII setting.

Dwayne Johnson Hinting He's Joining A DC Comics Film?

Dwayne Johnson (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Fast Five, Pain And Gain) is aiming to move into the world of comic book films. He's previously stated that he'd love a shot at Namor the Sub-Mariner and Luke Cage both excellent roles for film. Johnson was also loosely attached to play the god-like villain Black Adam in a possible Shazam! film. A recent response on Twitter gives the impression he very well could be in talks to join a DC movie. Unlike Marvel, there don't seem to be many options currently for the DC films.

The projects that come to mind are Lobo and Suicide Squad. One option is that he could end up playing a member of the group of DC villains forced into suicide missions as The Suicide Squad. Lobo is the closest to going into production as Brad Peyton replaced Guy Ritchie as the director. Brad will also make rewrites to the script which Don Payne (Simpsons, Thor, Thor 2) had originally wrote. To avoid another Jonah Hex or Green Lantern the studio will have to set the entire film on alien worlds and push for an R-rating. Lobo is a faul-mouthed violent biker bounty hunter who gives Superman a run for his money in hand-to-hand combat. He's one of the greatest DC anti-heroes and has been considered their version of Wolverine/Judge Dredd/Venom. Both seem like perfect movies for the new action star.

'LOBO' Gets A New Director

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver have tasked Brad Peyton to direct and rewrite their adaptation of Lobo. An odd choice considering he's best known for filming movies for children. Lobo being a rough talking and gritty bounty hunting biker doesn't seem to fit with Peyton's previous experiences. I should take it easy since they haven't really even released a new synopsis. Until then I'll be quietly concerned on the direction of this film.

Before the stellar success of Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie had been attached to the project. That apparently went pretty far into development as actors like Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) were testing for the title role. One of the biggest issues fans and critics had with the original draft was that the interstellar bounty hunter happened to be stuck on Earth. Along with a apparent PG-13 rating which seemed out of place for the villain turned anti-hero. An odd choice also to set it on Earth considering the amazing Star Wars meets Riddick possibilities this potential franchise holds. Hopefully these new rewrites include more than just the inclusion of a 3D gimmick. I also hope the terrible handling of Green Lantern doesn't scare off the studio from using the Star Wars-like aliens and worlds.

When Will We See Guy Ritchie's The Real RockNRolla?

 The article on the site that gets the most traffic and comments is the one focusing on Guy Ritchie's The Real RockNRolla. It's been promised ever since the original theatrical release of RockNRolla and it was even teased in the credits. Since then Guy Ritchie has been focused on many other projects. I'm going to run down what those movies are and the prospects of when we could expect Ritchie to start production on the RockNRolla sequel.

When it comes to Ritchie's current project he is shooting Sherlock Holmes 2 with Robert Downey Jr. The now established franchise is giving Guy more commercial success than he's ever had before. I expect like with other dedicated Warner Bros. directors (Nolan, Snyder) he will be rewarded with financing for his original projects. The only setback is that he might want to round out a Holmes trilogy before jumping into anything else. I wouldn't be shocked to see Sherlock Holmes 3 his next film.

Guy's previously attached projects could also become a hold up on The Real RockNRolla. He's been in talks with producer Joel Silver to helm both Lobo and Sgt. Rock which are based on the DC comics.
The studio had filmed test shots for Lobo with Jeffery Dean Morgan (Watchmen) and possibly Clancy Brown (Highlander, Starship Troopers). Sgt. Rock is also in development hell and is being re-tool from being set during WWII to the future. I'm not sure if the productions stopped because of Holmes 2 or the fact the characters were taken from Silver by DC Entertainment.


Ritchie has also been attached to direct remakes of the Dirty Dozen and Excalibur for the studio. From what I understand Dozen got the axe because of Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. I'm sure it will eventually happen but needs time between the Tarantino film.

Excalibur was once part of Bryan Singer's long list of projects in the works. He's been focused on Jack The Giant Killer which made opt out on directing X-Men First Class. Giving Matthew Vaughn the chance to finally show us his version of the X-Men universe. It would be interesting to see Ritchie take on the world of fantasy.


Another dreaded obstacle could be Ritchie signing onto new projects. Mark Millar teased that Ritchie along with Sam Raimi had been interested in making a movie based on his comic Nemesis. The project now has Tony Scott in the director's chair setup at 20th Century Fox. It's not surprising to see his name involved with Millar's projects since Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn is a friend and producer of Guy's films. Vaughn helped produce Lock Stock, Snatch and Swept Away. Millar is now teasing that his new comic Superior will become a film. Superior is a mix of iconic comic book mythology taking influences from Superman, Thor and Shazam!. The comic writer says the director would be announced in January. There is a possibility Guy Ritchie very well could be this name.

A very doubtful but still possible project could be Iron Man 3. It's unlikely because of Guy's current relationship with both DC and Warner Bros. Yet Robert Downey Jr. has director approval and could choose someone he's worked with before.

There could also be other unnamed projects which come up and he signs on. My expectations is that while The Real RockNRolla script is more than likely completed Guy could focus more on his high profile projects first. I wouldn't assume to see it go into production until 2012-2013 at the earliest. While there is enough of a demand from fans of the original he is sort of moving forward with different types of films. You can't blame him for wanting to expand his genres and can respect wanting to try different things.

Christopher Waltz, who played the amazing and villainous Col. Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, has joined Green Hornet. Waltz will be replacing Nicolas Cage as the villain. It's a great move by everyone involved. His massive success with winning best actor at Cannes and eventual Oscar nomination, could make the film more anticapted than if Cage was still attached.


Bruce Campbell has revealed that Spider-Man 4 will start shooting in January. He will also have a larger role in the film. Campbell has been featured in all three films, with minor but entertaining cameos. It's been rumored that he could end up playing a villain.


Jeffery Dean Morgan (Watchmen) has recently said he'd love to play DC Comics' Lobo, in the upcoming Guy Ritchie film. Dean Morgan was one of the actors who I had pegged for the role. He has also confirmed he has a role in the upcoming remake of Red Dawn.


The new Mad Max could be played by Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker, 28 Weeks Later). The actor has recently screen tested for the reboot/sequel. Mad Max 4: Fury Road was rumored to be animated but now seems to be live-action, for the better. George Miller the original director is attached and we could see the film in 3D.


There is also a rumor that Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of The Titans) could be up for the role of Captain Nemo in Disney's remake of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. This seems to make sense since director McG's connection with the actor from Terminator Salvation. Worthington seems to be a new breed of action star and could help give the project attention. Will Smith was originally in mind for the role but might end up joining Swiss Family Robinson instead.


As usual every week we hear a new Megan Fox casting rumor. This time the rumor is that she has joined the cast of Resident Evil 4: Afterlife. While I think it's a project she could gravitate to, it's unlikely. Also a while back she was rumored to be involved in Bond23, this seems more her style. Fox would make a better Bond girl than a second fiddle to Milla Jovovich fighting zombies.


Speaking of Resident Evil 4: Afterlife, Boris Kodjoe (Surrogates) has joined the cast. Boris used his Twitter account to announce his involvement."In Toronto meeting with the director of my new movie 'Resident Evil: Afterlife' Very exciting!!! Lots of stunts, shooting guns, monsters..."


Carla Gugino (Watchmen, Sin City), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Scott Glenn (Training Day) and Oscar Issac (Body of Lies) have joined Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch.
