DREDD VS AQUAMAN?; Karl Urban Rumored For Role In AQUAMAN

Another interesting piece of information in that report by Latino Review reveals that Karl Urban is being sought-out for a role in Aquaman. They aren't naming the character but it's possibly a villain.

WB is waiting patiently for Star Trek 3 to go into production and finish because they'd like to have Karl Urban step into Aquaman in an unspecified supporting role, possibly the villain. Urban and WB have had a good relationship in the past with Urban almost becoming a Batman, and for TV, WB producing Urban-starring Almost Human with Bad Robot for Fox.

I have to assume the role could be Aquaman's brother Ocean Master who eventually becomes a villain and a general pain in the ass.

We've all been rooting for Karl for years to breakout on his own and for the most part he's been able to land some great supporting roles.

Having his film debut in Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers and Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King. He would later take on villain roles in movies like The Bourne Supremacy and The Chronicles of Riddick. Karl struck big when he landed a role in the rebooted Star Trek franchise which has seen him apart of three films.

Although he hasn't always seen his hard work pay-off, an example of this is his well-beloved portrayal of the iconic comic book anti-hero Dredd. There's been a huge campaign to get a sequel to the film with a great deal of fans getting involved.

Another example was his wonderful sci-fi cop buddy series Almost Human on Fox, which was one of my favorite Fox shows in a very long time. It would eventually get cancelled and I lost a network show that I was actively supporting, a rare bird these days.

I think Karl would be a wonderful addition to the DC Comics cinematic universe and might be intimidating enough to be cast opposite a heroic Jason Momoa.

300 RISE OF AN EMPIRE Director Noam Murro A Candidate To Make AQUAMAN?

It's looking like Warner Bros. is really locking down their directors for their impressive slate of new films. We have Zack Snyder handling Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League Part 1 and Justice League Part 1.

Wonder Woman has Breaking Bad's Michelle MacLaren (Walking Dead, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones) attached to direct while she's currently working out the script with the screenwriter.

I actually wrote about why Warner Bros. should consider her the gig back in January 2014, way before she started showing-up on wish-lists. I'm glad she got the job and we should expect at the very least an entertaining adventure flick.

One of the upcoming films we don't really know about is Aquaman starring Jason Momoa. Last we heard, some of those leaked Sony email exchanges revealed Mud director Jeff Nichols could have been hired by the studio to write and direct the film.

However, a new report via Latino Review suggests that someone with closer ties to Zack Snyder in now in the mix.

They claim that Noam Murro the director of 300: Rise of An Empire is now a candidate, but are not ruling-out Jeff is still in the mix.

Murro stands out mainly because his experience with a large action focused comic book film that took place mostly on the water. It should also be noted he worked very closely with Zack Snyder on the film and that relationship could come into play, since I'm sure he'll want to be heavily involved with the script development and it's casting.

The expectation being that we could be seeing characters from both Aquaman and Justice League films crossing-over. Snyder will likely feel a bit more comfortable with someone like Murro in charge of the project, which is already a huge risk considering how many water-set films have a tendency to tank.

Maybe with Murro attached as director we could be seeing Eva Green considered for a role opposite Jason. I don't think too many people would be upset if Eva took the role of Mera.

Writer-Director Jeff Nichols Making WB's AQUAMAN Movie Starring Jason Momoa?

Another leaked Sony email via TheDailyBeast might be revealing plans from other studios. This new one from co-president of production Michael De Luca suggests Mud director Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Shotgun Stories) making WB's  Aquaman film, which stars Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa. Jeff recently shot and wrapped the sci-fi film Midnight Special for the studio. This might explain his hiring for the project, but we'll wait to hear an official announcement. Considering that they've hired Breaking Bad's Michelle MacLaren for Wonder Woman, it wouldn't be shocking to see someone like Jeff handling Aquaman.

Nichols is a writer-director so it's possible he's also tackling the script. Suicide Squad's David Ayer is holding-down double duties as well. The film is scheduled for a release date of July 27th, 2018.

Jason Momoa Lobbying For Zack Snyder To Direct AQUAMAN

Jason Momoa is finally free to talk a bit about being cast as Warner Bros' Aquaman, but without really talking about his role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He dropped a few tidbits at the Brazilian Comic-Con (via Twitter accounts), confirming we'll be seeing him in at least four movies. This could include Batman v Superman, Justice League Part 1, Aquaman and Justice League Part 2.

He was asked who his dream director would be for his solo outing, and that would be Zack Snyder. I'm sure it's a little bit of kissing-up, and a little bit of honesty. We know that Snyder's 300 is one of the more testosterone-fuelled fantasy comic book films, and it's possible that could be a blue-print for this film. Zack is going to one of the DCU brain-trusts and he'll be highly involved with the solo films, so they can fit into his Justice League movies. I'm unsure Snyder will be able to handle another production, considering he just finished Batman v Superman and still has two Justice League installments. Although, we don't know how extensive Snyder's deal with Warner Bros. is and he very well could have a larger workload.

DC Comics Movie Lineup Revealed By Warner Bros. And Ezra Miller To Play THE FLASH!

Warner Bros. has finally revealed their plans for their DC Comics universe. This might just be on par with the amount of releases we'll be seeing from Marvel Studios. By 2020, we'll have twelve of these DCU films in theatres. The lineup includes some seriously diverse projects, which might leave Marvel in the dust. Kevin Feige and Disney are currently twiddling their thumbs about Black Panther and Captain Marvel, while WB have now committed to Wonder Woman and Cyborg movies.

Below is the order and release dates for the DC movies. It's an impressive list and should finally confirm that we won't be seeing crossovers with the CW shows.

- SUICIDE SQUAD (August 5th, 2016)
- WONDER WOMAN (June 23rd, 2017)
- JUSTICE LEAGUE PART 1 (November 23rd, 2017)
- THE FLASH (March 23rd, 2018)
- AQUAMAN (July 27th, 2018)
- SHAZAM (April 5th, 2019)
- JUSTICE LEAGUE PART 2 (June 14th, 2019)
- CYBORG (April 3rd, 2020)
- GREEN LANTERN Reboot (June 19th, 2020)
- BATMAN (TBA)
- SUPERMAN (TBA)

The studio also confirms that Zack Snyder will indeed be directing both installments of Justice League, the first movie coming in 2017. Fury director David Ayer is locked-in for Suicide Squad, which will be our first post-Batman v Superman movie in 2016.

I think the biggest news coming out of this is that the studio is looking at releasing solo adventures for Wonder Woman, The FlashAquman and surprisingly Ray Fisher's Cyborg. Ezra Miller (We Need To Talk About Kevin) has been cast as the DCU version of The Flash and Jason Momoa has finally been confirmed as Aquaman. Green Lantern is getting a complete reboot (goodbye Ryan Reynolds!) along with new solo stories for Superman and Ben Affleck's Batman.

RUMOR: Brainiac The Big Baddie Of Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE?

While on MeetTheMoviePress podcast LatinoReview scooper El Mayimbe revealed that Justice League screenwriter Chris Terrio (Argo, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) has handed-in an outline/draft to Warner Bros. Adding, that Chris' work on Batman v Superman is actually a production polish, and not a complete page-one rewrite. Blogs and fans assumed that with another writer onboard David S. Goyer's work was getting completely tossed, not the actual case. It wouldn't have made sense to have Terrio rewrite an entire script weeks/months before production was set to begin.

The bigger news concerning Justice League is the film's possible villain. El Mayimbe names the long-waited Brainiac is going to be the big baddie of the DC team-up event flick. You might remember that Brainiac was going to be the villain of Tim Burton's Superman film with Nicholas Cage as the titular hero. That film was never made, but Brainiac has remained a fan-favorite to show-up in the films.

The cast is expected to be Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and others yet to be announced. A production start hasn't been mentioned, but it was rumored it was going be next for Zack Snyder. While other DC projects are also in-development such as solo installments for Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

The MeetTheMoviePress panel did make-fun of the suggestion of Benedict Cumberbatch, but the actor had been rumored for roles in Batman v Superman, that would setup Justice League. To be fair to them, Ben has been linked to all sorts of franchises including Star Wars and Doctor Strange. BBC was saying he was in the running for the Martian Manhunter part, along with a possible villain role. Brainiac anyone? Here is what Ben had to say about the Manhunter rumor.

"I'm going to let that rumour run."

Jason Momoa Confirmed For AQUAMAN In BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

BadassDigest was first to mention the rumor and HitFix brought it back to life. Variety is confirming it and it's official that we'll be seeing Jason Momoa (Conan, Game of Thrones) as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Momoa had been spending a lot of time distracting fans, by putting down the character and teasing other DC roles (like Lobo). It's assumed the character will have a larger role to play in Justice League and could lead to a solo outing.

It's an interesting casting choice and one that will likely payoff in the end. Considering the character is one of the biggest jokes of the Justice League. Turning the punchline hero into a complete badass, is one way to get DC fans pumped for their future lineup of movies. Momoa is best known for hulking fantasy characters such as Conan and Game of Thrones' Khal Drogo.

RUMOR: Jason Momoa Signs-On To Play AQUAMAN In BATMAN VS SUPERMAN?

BatmanNews is stating that Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa (Stargate: Atlantis, Baywatch: Hawaii, Conan The Barbarian, Bullet To The Head) has signed-on to play an unnamed role in Batman Vs Superman. Trades like Variety and THR previously confirmed that Momoa was in talks for a part in the film. BN don't reveal which character he's playing, but mention the reliable BadassDigest was claiming that Jason Momoa was up for Aquaman a few months back. It does make sense, as Warner Bros. was been trying to develop an Aquaman film for a while now. And with someone like Momoa in the role it could lead to a spin-off. Considering all these heroes are going to be in one film, it does support LatinoReview's story that Batman Vs Superman and Justice League, could very well shoot back-to-back.

"I was recently told by a very, very trusted source that the role Jason Momoa was up for (but is currently denying) is definitely Aquaman, but it's essentially a cameo setting up the next movie. Momoa's denials today could just be a smokescreen intended to protect the surprise nature of the cameo, although if the films are shooting back-to-back we'll know soon enough."

We already expect solo films for Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and a new string of Batman films featuring Ben Affleck (possibly directed by as well). Momoa had also being in the mix for the role of Drax The Destroyer in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, but wasn't happy with the offer. Eventually getting his own spin-off film, or a pivotal role in Justice League sounds like a better move on Jason's part.

The Man of Steel "sequel", already has Batman, Wonder Woman and Cyborg as supporting characters. This sounds like BVS could end up like Iron Man 2 or The Amazing Spider-Man 1-2, only existing to setup future films. Something that tends to drag down character moments and detract from a single serving storyline. I'm still unsure why they just don't call this film Justice League, because it obviously won't be a Superman centred story with this many other heroes in supporting/cameo roles.

If Momoa indeed joins the cast he will star alongside Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Ray Fisher, Laurence Fishburne, Holly Hunter, Diane Lane, Callan Mulvey and Tao Okamoto. The untitled film's release date is set for May 6th, 2016.

TO BE CONSIDERED: Actresses For Gamora Of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

While it looks like Marvel has possibly found their two Guardian of The Galaxy male leads with Chris Pratt (Starlord) and rumored addition Jason Momoa (Drax The Destroyer). The studio hasn't exactly made it clear who they want for Gamora the female side of the team. We've been hearing a couple of names linked which have been from mostly untested sources but could be believed. I'm going to list the rumored candidates and my own choices. It shouldn't be too long before trades and more in tuned blogs start digging. My own choices include a few names that have been previously linked to Marvel projects.

I've posted this a couple of times but the rumored list of names for Gamora include Gina Carano (Haywire, Female Expendables, Fast And Furious 6), Adrianne Palicki (Red Dawn, G.I. Joe: Retalation), Rosario Dawson (Trance, Death Proof, Sin City 1-2), Olivia Wilde (Tron Legacy, Rush), Rachel Nichols (Star Trek, Conan, G.I. Joe, Alias), Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation, Faster, Sessions, Falling Skies) and Kristanna Loken (Burn Notice, Terminator 3, L Word, Painkiller Jane).

MY CASTING SUGGESTIONS

GEMMA ARTERTON: Gemma (RockNRolla, Quantum of Solace) had been in the mix for roles in both Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3 previously. Being linked for Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Maya Henson (Rebecca Hall). Not to mention in the running for lead parts in Prometheus and The Dark Knight Rises. She might have had a stumble with poor roles in films like Prince of Persia, Clash of The Titans and Witch Hunters but still manages to wrangle interesting smaller films like Alice Creed Byzantium and Runner Runner. I think with the right creative team she could finally deliver the goods.

ZOE SALDANA: Already making a name for herself starting with 2008's Star Trek reboot (with future Thor/Avengers star Chris Hemsworth) and it's sequel Star Trek Into Darkness (Benedict Cumberbatch who plays the villain is a fan favorite for Doctor Strange) coming this May. Zoe has also been apart of the biggest film ever made Avatar. While her performance was mostly motion capture it helped launch her international film career. Recently, Salanda has been taking more action focused roles in films such as the The Losers (alongside Cap/Avengers' Chris Evans and Thor's Idris Elba), Colombiana and Machete Kills.

JESSICA BROWN FINLAY: The British actress had been linked as a frontrunner for a female role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It's unknown if that part was for Sharon Carter the Downton Abbey actress is on their radar. Jessica also has a few working links with some Marvel actors such as Felicity Jones (Amazing Spider-Man 2) in Albatross, Michael Fassbender (X-Men First Class, X-Men Days of Future Past) in the short film Man On A Motorcycle, Terrence Howard (Iron Man) and Garrett Hedlund (Captain America/Guardians candidate) in Lullaby, William Hurt (Incredible Hulk) and Kevin Durand (Wolverine, Guardians?) in Winter's Tale.

EMILIA CLARKE: Like Jessica, Emilia was linked for Winter Soldier. Her attachment to the Game of Thrones series makes her a very strong candidate. As her fellow almuni have nabbed roles in X-Men Days of Future Past (Peter Dinklage) and Guardians of The Galaxy (Jason Momoa). Marvel Studios even took it further by hiring GOT showrunner and director Alan Taylor for Thor: The Dark World. While it seems weird that Marvel would hire two cast members from the same TV series they have hired actors who have worked together previously for chemistry sake.

BREAKING: Jason Momoa Confirmed For Drax In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

A new tweet from LatinoReview gives the impression that Marvel has decided on Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa as their Drax The Destroyer in Guardians of The Galaxy. Former wrestler David Bautista (Riddick) had also been in the mix but it sounds like Momoa has ended up with the key supporting franchise role. Drax like Starlord (Chris Pratt) will be reoccurring characters in the budding franchise and could eventually see them join or help the Avengers in future films. Nothing is official yet, but expect one of the trades to get more information soon. The next meaty role will be powerhouse Gamora a role that as has had actresses like Gina Carano (Haywire) and others as rumored to be in the running.

Another Source Says Nova Corps. Featured In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

AICN is reporting that Marvel's version of intergalactic military/police Nova Corps. (similar to Green Lantern Corps) will be featured in Guardians of The Galaxy. We've been hearing since the early days of development of Avengers and Guardians that Nova would be introduced into the MCU. Not to mention that speculation grew from the concept art that might have had Nova ships in the sky. Marvel released a new Nova series at the same time they rebooted Guardians with their new comic. If original story details for the film are to believed, the group starts out to be prisoners and fugitives which could mean Nova Corps. are on their tails.

“I was contacted by a source..., telling me that after they had a dinner with a friend that is a confirmed part of [Guardians of the Galaxy]’s production team, that the friend let it slip over the meal that NOVA CORPS were definitely a part of the movie.”

Kevin Durand (Real Steel, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Smokin' Aces) had been recently linked for a role in the film but it's unlikely it was for Drax. I could see him being apart of the Nova Corps. if not as Richard Rider.

Kevin Feige Says GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Is A Standalone Film And 95% Set In Space

Marvel's Kevin Feige was interviewed by SFXMagazine (via CBM) about their new franchise in the making Guardians of The Galaxy. He reveals that the film will spend 95% of the time in space and downplays it's connection to Avengers 2. Stating that while the film is set in the same universe it's more of a standalone and might not be the giant lead in to Avengers 2 that people are expecting. Somewhat putting down the rumor of Iron Man possibly joining the Guardians lineup. This could be just Marvel spin but it's also possible that Thanos and the infinity gauntlet could be a Guardians focused storyline instead of bleeding into Avengers. James Gunn is currently casting the film with pre-production underway in London with an August 2014 release date.

"The Thor film and the Guardians Of The Galaxy film certainly are cosmic. Guardians and Thor will take the brunt of the cosmic side of the universe, particularly Guardians, which is 95% in space..."

“I would say that it does not. It’s much more of a standalone film. It takes place in the same universe. And when we’ve been on the other side of that universe in other movies, you might see those characteristics in Guardians, but the Avengers are not involved with what’s happening out there at this time.”

Dave Bautista Competing With Jason Momoa For Drax Role In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Kevin Durand Could Also Take A Role

LatinoReview has a small update concerning the casting of Guardians of The Galaxy. They save that previously linked contender Dave Batista (Riddick, Man With The Iron Fists) is anew frontrunner alongside Jason Momoa (Bullet To The Head, Game of Thrones, Conan) for the supporting role of Drax The Destroyer. Jason apparently is trying renegotiate his original deal when he tested for the role. Marvel is known for limiting the amount they originally offer leads and supporting actors. However, they do end up earning big paydays later on along with massive international exposure which makes up for the small upfront fee. The James Gunn (Slither, Super) helmed picture is currently in preproduction in the UK and is still in the casting process. Chris Pratt (Zero Dark Thirty, Moneyball) is the only actor set for a role as leader of the Guardians, Peter Quill (Starlord). There is also rumblings that Marvel has found their Rocket Raccoon but haven't made it official.

They also add that Canadian actor Kevin Durand (Robin Hood, Wolverine, Smokin' Aces, Lost, 3:10 To Yuma, Resident Evil 5, Dark Angel) is up for an unnamed role. It's possible that he could in the mix for Nova, Adam Warlock or even Thanos. Kevin had been linked as a candidate for Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He already has Marvel roots playing The Blob in the underwhelming first Wolverine film. Not to mention a Disney link playing a villain in Real Steel.

I'm not sure how reliable this was originally but actresses such as Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights, Red Dawn, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Gina Carano (Haywire, Fast And Furious 6), Olivia Wilde (Tron Legacy, Cowboys And Aliens), Rosario Dawson (Trance, Sin City 1-2, Death Proof, 25th Hour), Rachel Nichols (Star Trek, Conan, G.I. Joe, Alias), Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation, Faster, Sessions, Falling Skies) and Kristanna Loken (Burn Notice, Terminator 3, L Word, Painkiller Jane) were rumored for Gamora. It would make sense that Wonder Woman candidates (in the case of Palicki played her in a TV pilot) would be looked for the role.

BREAKING: Has Marvel Found Their Rocket Raccoon?

Apparently, official news concerning casting one of the key roles of Guardians of The Galaxy may be made today. LatinoReview has tweeted that Marvel has seemingly found an actor for the role and will likely be revealed by Marvel or a outlet sometime today. We already know that Chris Pratt (Zero Dark Thirty) is locked in for Peter Quill/Star-Lord while negations for Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) to play Drax are still ongoing. There have been some ideas of who Marvel has been considering but when the announcement is made/reported I'll update this page and include a new one.

There had been talk that Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey were being looked at for the roles in the film which was assumed could be Groot or Rocket. However, creative consultant on the film Brain Michael Bendis got behind British action star Jason Statham. Even Michael Rooker put his name out there for a role when asked if he wanted to join the cast. Rooker has been apart of both Gunn's previous films Slither and Super.

You might have heard Rocket's voice on Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 or on Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes where he has a cockney accent. Combined with Statham's amazing action star status he could really give the character life with both his grizzled voice and agility/stunt/martial arts background for the motion capture side. I wouldn't rule out Rooker as could end up being a strong contender thanks for the ever growing fanbase of the Walking Dead.

Jason Momoa Offered Drax Role In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

LatinoReview has a casting update for Guardians of The Galaxy which is in pre-production in London, England. They say that Jason Momoa (Conan, Game of Thrones) has been offered the supporting role of Drax The Destroyer. Adding he flew over to London to test for the part and is now working out a deal with Marvel. Chris Pratt is the only actor locked-in for the film playing Peter Quill/Star-Lord.

First Look: Jason Momoa As Conan

TheCimmerian has posted what looks like promo stills of Jason Momoa as Conan from Cannes.
