Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Will Play A Hero God In Alex Proyas' GODS OF EGYPT

TheWrap reports that Game of Thrones' Nikolaj is making the jump to male lead with the epic Gods of Egypt. The film directed by Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City, I Robot) focuses on ancient Egyptian Gods and a thief who team up to avenge the death of Osiris. Nikolaj would play Horus the god of the sky and hero of the film. He has been apart of some of the successes of 2013 with roles in Mama and Oblivion. Not to mention being wanted for a role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

This isn't Proyas' first fray into the large scale action epics focusing on gods. He previously was going to make Paradise Lost for Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures. Which would focus on the fall of Lucifer and the eventual war that saw him cast from Heaven to Hell. Perhaps, if Gods of Egypt is successful it might spark interest in Paradise Lost again.

Shailene Woodley And Theo James To Lead Stellar Cast In DIVERGENT

Deadline reports that a slew of actors have signed or are in talks for Neil Burger's (Limitless) Divergent which could be the next Hunger Games-type franchise. The names include Shailene Woodley (Amazing Spider-Man 2, Descendants, Spectacular Now) and Theo James (Downton Abbey, Underworld 4) as the leads with Kate Winslet (Titanic), Aaron Eckhart (Dark Knight, Thank You For Smoking), Jai Courtney (Die Hard 5, Jack Reacher), Maggie Q (MI3, Die Hard 4), Ray Stevenson (Rome, Thor 1-2, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Miles Teller (Spectacular Now, Project X, Rabbit Hole, 21 And Over), Zoe Kravitz (X-Men Fist Class) and Ansel Elgort linked for supporting roles.

Anthony Hopkins Wanted For Villain Role In 'RED 2'

Deadline reports that Anthony Hopkins is looking to take the baddie role of Edward Bailey in RED 2. The only issue would be his commitment to the production of Thor 2 as Hopkins reprises the role of Odin. Tony is expected to see more action in the Thor sequel since he won't be stuck in Odin-sleep. One thing going for both projects is that they will be filming in Europe which could greatly help the chances of Hopkins being able to do both. The cast so far includes Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee.

Ryan Reynolds Frontrunner For 'HIGHLANDER'

ShowBlitz has interesting casting news today as Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds is now the frontrunner for the lead in the Highlander reboot. No official offer has been made but it's looking good and Ryan doesn't often turn down these type of roles. The assumption is that Ryan will play Colin, a Scottish highlander who discovers he's an immortal while fatally wounded on the battlefield only to be resurrected. Under the guidance of an elder immortal he's taught the rules and limits of his new powers. He chugs along for hundreds of years living through the highlights and downsides of history, until the president day story begins. The immortals are locked in a struggle to become the only one left alive. An immortal can only be killed by their head being cut-off. When the duel is over the winner absorbs the fallen immortal's energy which in-turn increases their power/strength and immortality. Some immortals like Colin keep a close group of immortals as friends instead of hacking their heads off for power.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) is set direct and replaced Justin Lin (Fast Five) who had to drop out of the project to focus on Fast Six. Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway came on to do rewrites but the quality of the film won't be known until we get a trailer. It's an interesting choice considering Ryan's massive Green Lantern flop and negative buzz surrounding his next comic book project R.I.P.D. However, he did have a number one hit with Safe House that co-starred Denzel Washington. Hopefully it light another fire under 20th Century Fox to finally get Deadpool made. It's unknown at this point if this will be a complete reboot of the franchise or stay faithful to same beats of the original film. A villain hasn't been named but it's possible a new super-immortal could be introduced along with non-villainous immortals that Colin plays nice with.

Catherine Zeta-Jones And Byung-Hun Lee Join 'RED 2'

Collider has the official word from Summit/Lionsgate that Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones (Traffic, Oceans Twelve) and Korean actor Byung-Hun Lee (I Saw The Devil, G.I. Joe 1-2) have joined the cast of RED 2. Returning cast members include Bruce Willis, Mary Louise-Parker, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren. No word if Karl Urban who just wrapped Star Trek 2 will be returning as his name doesn't appear in the press release.

RED 2 brings back the team of retired CIA operatives as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe.
