Should Marvel Consider Casting Eva Green As Amora The Enchantress In THOR 3?

Marvel Studios is starting to get better with their sequels. Looking ahead, Winter Soldier looks to be the best of the bunch. The same couldn't be said of Thor: The Dark World, something I blame on a very dull and ill-explained villain (Malekith). A majority of the best comic book villains have at least an once of personality to them, giving them depth. Loki and The Winter Soldier are the types of villains that Marvel should be trying to replicate. A strong backstory with our heroes, and personal struggles/arcs along their way.

One character that has been looming around the Thor franchise since day-one is Amora The Enchantress. Easily, the second most recognizable Thor villain (next to Loki) and one of the more complex ones as well. Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth have been pushing for the characters to be included, so it's likely they'll get their wish. Amora has played friend and foe, to both Thor and Loki. Her intentions are always questionable along with her feelings, having affections for both brothers. While mostly interested in her own personal gain and power status. She is someone that Marvel needs to put into play in Phase Three, and could be a valuable character in MCU.

We have had one "main" female villain in the entire run of these movies (Nebula in Guardians), it's a very odd and uneven track record. Considering that we've seen Marvel "talk-up" a Black Widow film, and a Ms Marvel one being developed behind-the-scenes. We're living in the era of Game of Thrones, when every female villain is more devilish and evil than their male counterparts. It comes down to good writing and treating your female characters like actual people, within the world you are creating.

Moving past the need to include Amora, who should eventually play her?

That answer might be more on-the-nose than you think. We've heard names like Charlize Theron and Alice Eve mentioned for the role, which are excellent suggestions. They might be too busy with their respected franchises, Eve with Star Trek 3 and Theron with future Mad Mad sequels/spin-offs. One actress has been making it her mission to tackle comic book films. That lady would be French actress Eva Green, who at the moment hasn't signed-up for a million projects. It's at least possible for her to be open to the idea of signing one of Marvel's lengthly contracts.

North American audiences were first introduced to this talented lady, in Martin Campbell's Bond reboot Casino Royale (while taking a rather large role in the mostly panned Kingdom of Heaven). Oddly enough, Eva played a character that seeming had a few characteristics of Amora in the film. Winning over Bond's confidence and trust, only to stab him in the back. It sort of reminded me of her back-and-forth with Thor and Loki.

She'll also be taking on another similar part in Robert Rodriguez's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. While that performance's quality is currently unknown to us, another upcoming one is. Green plays the main villain in 300: Rise of An Empire. There was a recently press screening, which seemed to have everyone buzzing about one performance. That would be Eva as the battle hardened and blood thirsty Artemisia. A dark streak that does run within Amora at times, similar to Loki.

Another similarity to Tom Hiddleston is that the two actors are currently the same age. Having them paired up wouldn't be much of a stretch, something that could be an issue if Amora candidates are too young for the role. Plus, Green has played witches (Enchantress just happens to also dapple in magic) before in Dark Shadows and the series Camelot, it's also alluded to in trailers that Artemisia could be a witch as well. It's hard to imagine the pair not perfectly working-off each other.

 It doesn't hurt this lady can do comedy, drama, love stories and action roles, as good if not better than her peers (male or female). I believe that Green should at least be considered for the role of The Enchantress, and she clearly at this point is the strongest name suggested. Having an excellent history of playing villains, being the right age, having an open schedule for the foreseeable future and will likely gain the traction Marvel zeroes-in on post-Rise of An Empire.

SPECULATION: Mads Mikkelsen Up For Malekith Or Sutur In 'THOR 2'?

It's starting to sound like the villain of Thor 2 is going to be a one of the big ones from Thor's limited rouges gallery. As Chris Hemsworth put down talk of Thanos being the baddie of the film stating they needed "a bigger fish". Kevin Feige has confirmed this by axing the Thanos rumor again stating he'll be a "future" villain giving the impression that he'll be saved for Avengers 2 or Guardians of Galaxy. Feige also mentions the villain of the Thor sequel will indeed be a "major new antagonist". Giving the impression that Loki, Skurge, Ulik and other supporting villains are not going to be the main threat of the picture. The only "major" unused Thor villains are Hela, Surtur and Malekith. Consideirng that Mads Mikkelsen is linked for this role it's likely down to Malekith and Surtur, which both would be excellent cinematic villains.

Kevin Feige Debunks Thanos In 'THOR 2' Rumor

Marvel's Kevin Feige spoke to Empire about the upcoming production of Thor 2. He confirms what Chris Hemsworth had been saying about the new facelift to Asgard along with commenting on the rumors of Thanos being the main baddie of the sequel. Kevin states they have a "majaor new antagonist" for the film who will likely be played by the rumored addition Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale). Thanos could be saved for a future film, perhaps Guardians of The Galaxy or Avengers 2.


"We're going to see the other side of Asgard. It's not all polished and golden in this film. And the events of Avengers will have affected Thor for sure. His relationship with Loki will continue to evolve, and the biggest part is Natalie and Thor returning with Jane Foster."


"No, future, future. But there will be a major new villain. A major, major new antagonist..."

Mark Ruffalo Wants Joss Whedon Involved With New "HULK" Film

During UK press via CBM for an Avengers panel interview with Marvel's Kevin Feige and actor Mark Ruffalo revealed a possibility of seeing a solo Hulk return to the screen. Mark seems to be one of the biggest standouts in Avengers and it's sparked new interested in a sequel to The Incredible Hulk film. Ruffalo seems intent on getting Joss Whedon involved with a new film whether that's just from a contributing standpoint as a writer or shepherding the project from the sidelines. Kevin seems interested in it but cautious not to oversell the possibility. Considering the studio's bloated development backlog it seems like we'll have to wait until Avengers 2 to see Hulk again.

RUFFALO: "I'm going to try and get Joss Whedon in a room and work out what would be a Hulk movie, with Kevin's blessings hopefully."

FEIGE: "In between the many red carpets and interviews over the last few days Mark and I say what is a standalone Hulk movie? How do we take all this goodwill, all this forward momentum from Avengers into a solo Hulk movie? When that will be, who knows? The conversations have definitely started."

Edgar Wright's Ant-Man A Team Spy Film?

We've been getting a few hints on what we can expect from Marvel Studios' Ant-Man which is being written by Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim, Hot Fuzz) and Joe Cornish (Attack The Block, Tintin). From what is known we could be seeing a group of Ant-Men in a high-tech spy heist film. This makes a lot of sense considering neither Pym or Wasp won't be showing up in Avengers.

It will include at least two of the Ant-Men including Dr. Hank Pym and burglar turned-hero Scott Lang (2nd Ant-Man) which was confirmed by MTV. Also the film's leading lady Janet van Dyne wears a similar suit and is known as the Wasp. It would be nice to see another heroine in the film perhaps Lang's daughter Cassie. She becomes a Young Avenger known as Stature who shares the same powers as her father.
 
ThePlaylist was able to speak with Joe Cornish which he became coy when the question of Ant-Men was raised again. However, they mention several "Ant-Men" are rumored which could mean SHIELD Agent Eric O'Grady (3rd Ant-Man) could be in the film as well.

"We had heard that at one point Cornish and Wright were going to put several of the Ant-Men (meaning people that had put on superhero scientist Hank Pym’s suit) into the script, meaning that they could have thrown in our personal favorite Ant-Man – Eric O’Grady, low-level S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent turned shadily “Irredeemable” Ant Man. "

Cornish smiled at our implication and said, slyly, “No comment.” He then started to say something, “Well, you know…” before shutting himself off with another “No comment.”


Edgar Wright talked to VanityFair about his vision for the film which will be a "high-tech spy heist film". The espionage angle gives further fuel that a team could be put together. Wright had been in contention to direct Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol which has a similar theme minus superpowers. I wouldn't be shocked to see Ant-Man closer to Bond or Mission Impossible than any of the other Marvel films.

"I think it's a really interesting high-concept idea. [...] I know there's a big stigma attached to it, mostly because every movie about shrinking has been about people in peril. I think it'd be great to do a shrinking film about a bad-ass secret agent. [...] Even something like The Incredible Shrinking Man, which is a fantastic film, is about a guy in trouble. But this is going to be nothing like that. It's essentially a high-tech spy heist film with somebody with a very particular power."

Hiddleston Confirms Loki Will Be In Thor 2, Shooting This Spring?

One of the greatest casting choices by Marvel Studios has been Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Tom was originally testing to play Thor but was better suited for the conflicted villain. It's pretty much paid off for the actor as he's been a major part of two Marvel films and now there is possibility he'll return for Thor 2. He gives some insight to MTV about the sequel and says that a director hasn't been chosen yet. Giving the impression that Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire) isn't a sure thing.

"I haven’t. I also don’t know that that’s actually confirmed. That’s not me being coy. I spoke to Kevin Feige last week on ["The Avengers"] set and he said, 'Oh no, we haven’t got anyone yet. We’re thinking about people. I think probably next spring is the idea because the release date is locked down," he said, adding that the storyline for the film will still likely pick-up from where "The Avengers" leaves off."

"In 'The Avengers' he’s really dark and kind of sociopathic, or maybe even psychopathic is the word, in a deluded way. Obviously I haven’t let go of the spiritual damage at the heart of him, it still comes from that lost place, but he’s just incredibly nasty. I think that probably in 'Thor 2' his previous actions will, he’ll have to take responsibility for what he’s done. The great thing about Loki is there is potential in him for greatness and awfulness, for great heroism and great villainy. There are still, even within 'The Avengers,' there are moments where you see within Loki a glimmer of hope and that possibility of redemption. It makes it fun to play and it makes it fun for the audience. Nobody is black and white, there are shades of grey in all of us. We all have potential for greatness and we all have flaws. I for one am championing the redemption," he added hopefully, along with a wish for a future Thor and Loki action scene: "This isn’t definitely going to happen, but I think there would be nothing more awesome than seeing Loki and Thor fight somebody side by side."

RUMOR: Thor 2 Coming 2013 & Possible Villains?

It wasn't too long ago that Marvel Studios set Thor writer Don Payne to start working on a sequel's story. Director Kenneth Branagh said that the only way there would be another film if is audiences showed up and they did. Now with the film racking up close to $352 million worldwide in box office numbers so far it seems like a no-brainer for Marvel to move forward with another Thor.

CinemaBlend is now offering some tidbits of information concerning Thor 2. First they give the impression the film could be coming sooner than expected with a possible 2013 date opening the same summer as Iron Man 3. It sounds about right as Marvel has yet to announce a second 2013 film. They mention that possible villains could include Amora (The Enchantress) and Skurge (The Executioner) allies of Loki. Amora plays both sides working with and against Thor while trying to win his affection with magic and trickery. Skurge on the other hand is a bruiser warrior originally born in
Jotunheim (Frost Giant Realm).

Blend is usually on the money but things change as it's early in the development process. Previously they sited Fing Fang Foom, Ten Rings and Manderain as the villains in Iron Man 2 but that of course didn't turn out to be true. That being said the two a very likely going to be in future Thor films as they are centric characters but I wouldn't rule out non-Asgardian villains. Alice Eve has been linked previously to testing for different female roles and it's possible she very well could end up playing Amora. My hope is that the sequel is entirely set in the cosmic world giving us a better look at the mythology and the other realms. 

Marvel's Kevin Feige Talks Black Widow, Hawkeye & S.H.I.E.L.D Films

During a Thor interview with ThePlaylist Kevin Feige gives a bit more insight into Marvel Studios' spin-offs in development. The long talked about S.H.I.E.L.D film is mentioned along with bigger talk of Black Widow and Hawkeye solo films. I still think Widow and Hawkeye should be a team-up film instead of solo movies but you never know with Marvel.

"There’s no definitive plans, but we have started talking and talking with Scarlett about what a Widow movie could be. Internally we’ve also started thinking what a ‘Hawkeye’ movie could be, how we could continue to explore the organization [which Samuel Jackson‘s Nick Fury leads] S.H.I.E.L.D, which has a pretty big part in ‘Thor,’ smaller parts in the two ‘Iron Man’ films and has a giant part in ‘The Avengers.’ [So it’s like], what would a stand-alone “S.H.I.E.L.D.” be like? It all goes back to the comics. Sometimes the answer is—when looking at a certain run of issues— ‘no way’ and sometimes the answer is ‘maybe, let’s continue to explore it’ and certainly with Hawkeye and Black Widow those are two that we’re exploring."

Kevin also said that the next lineup for the 2013-2014 schedule will be announced later this summer which could mean Comic-Con in July. It's unknown if Marvel will have a second film released in 2012. However it's known that Iron Man 3 is set for May 3rd 2013. The list of possible films include Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Iron Fist and Luke Cage (Power Man). Sequels and spin-offs could also be candidates.
