Akira (2011)

Apparently the live-action Akira movie isn't dead after all. It was assumed dead after reports that the project fell through and Warner Brothers wasn't happy with the script. Well that may have been true since according to Collider they have hired the writing pair of Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby to do re-write. Fergus and Ostby were the creative minds behind Iron Man and Children of Men, so they know genre films. It's unknown if Irish filmmaker Ruairi Robinson is still attached to the film. The changes to the script are also unknown but the setting will be a post-apocalyptic Manhattan.




Although the role of Kaneda is rumored to be in mind for Leonardo DiCaprio who is producing. I'd rather see the role go to Cillian Murrphy (Inception, 28 Days Later), he's also worked with Ruairi Robinson in his short film The Silent City.
