Matthew Vaughn Is My Choice For Spider-Man Reboot
There have been some interesting names thrown around the Spider-Man reboot they include Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer), James Cameron, David Fincher (Fight Club), Wes Anderson (Fantastic Mr. Fox) and Sam Raimi's choice Nimrod Antal(Predators). They're all very impressive directors but are they the best fit to tell the story of Peter Parker and Spider-Man? I'm sure who ever Sony Pictures hires they will do their best. My pick is director Matthew Vaughn if Sony wants "gritty" he's is the best man for the job.
While he's best known for his adult themed films such as Layer Cake which cemented Daniel Craig as a leading man. He's done PG-13 very well the fantasy film Stardust is a perfect example. Vaughn is able to work in different genres and still have his unique style shine through. I think with Kick-Ass, Vaughn has been exposed to the comic book world more than the other directors that Sony has been mentioning.
Vaughan has major geek credibility because of his attachments to comic book films over the years. He's previously been involved with Thor and X-Men 3 before leaving both films over creative differences. Some of his concepts and casting choices such as Vinnie Jones (Snatch) as The Juggernaut did end up in the film. I'm still confident we'll see Vaughn direct a Marvel film in the future.
Vaughn also openly campaigned to direct Avengers and the Superman reboot.
