It's a real possibility that David Tennant could be heading to the shire. Previously producer/writer Peter Jackson and director Guillmero del Toro came out of hiding to publicly deny Tobey Maguire being cast in the film. Jackson going so far to kill rumors as saying casting won't be finished for at least another month. Now MTV and TotalFilm are picking up on pieces of information that could lead to the good Doctor playing Bilbo Baggins. Tennant recently dropped out of John Landis' Burke & Hare which would have been a large profile film for the television actor. It made a lot of people wonder why he left the project.
Simon Pegg posted this on Twitter, later it would be deleted by Pegg. I assume it could be real enough for him to pull it, he is friends with Jackson. This was in response to Tennant leaving Pegg's film Burke & Hare.

When Andy Serkis jumped in to replace Tennant it fueled the rumors even more. Considering Serkis would more than likely would be doing his Gollum scenes further down the 14 month production. If this is just rumor I expect TheOneRing will hear from someone from the production to confirm or deny it.
