Marvel Looking To Reboot SPIDER-MAN Without Andrew Garfield

LatinoReview has sparked a bit of hope that Sony will have to make some sort of deal with Marvel Studios concerning future Spider-Man films. The best sitution for everyone involved if you ask me. However, it seems like Andrew Garfield might be getting the short-end of the stick in the new deal.

As the site has an update concerning Marvel's creative control on that new trilogy, they want the all-female project and Aunt May pretty much axed right-off the bat. That isn't surprising since those seemed to be a bit much for Marvel to handle, Sony seemed even a bit overwhelming by that high level concept. The Aunt May movie being the most ridiculous of the two, since they should have just pursued a spy thriller with Parker's parents. In one of the "What-If?" comics they were SHIELD agents, which would have made a lot more sense for the revised origin in Amazing Spider-Man.

Anyways, I'm noticing there is nothing said about the fate of Drew Goddard's Sinister Six film. We know that Drew has a close working relationship with both Marvel Studios and Avengers' Joss Whedon. Working with Whedon on projects including his feature directorial debut with Cabin In The Woods, which he co-wrote with Joss and co-starred Thor's Chris Hemsworth. Before being plucked to tackle Six, Drew was working with Marvel's television division on the Netflix series Daredevil.

BadassDigest has claimed earlier that Sony had been considering a soft-reboot of Spider-Man in Sinister Six. Could that have been coming from Marvel and not Sony? We know that Amy Pascal has been fighting-hard to keep Marvel away from getting creative control, which would mean her star Andrew Garfield would be recast by the other studio. It's starting to look like that's going to be a sticking point with Marvel moving forward. This would follow how they've handled their own reboots of The Hulk and Daredevil. In my opinion this could be an excellent way for Marvel to reboot the character without having to rehash the origin we know nobody wants to see again.

It's very unlikely that the very busy Kevin Feige will be able to oversee this new trilogy. Having a Marvel friendly filmmaker like director and screenwriter Drew Goddard already involved with the franchise. I could see Marvel putting the task of rebooting the franchise to Drew Goddard, and backing him up on his Sinister Six film. I don't see how this movie couldn't be the first installment in Marvel's reboot of the character. We know Marvel won't want to rehash Spidey's origin and will likely have him already established as a hero, who has already built-up a rogues gallery.

I'm might also speculate that Joss Whedon not returning for Infinity War, could mean his role at Marvel Studios might be changing. Could he end-up taking the reigns of projects like Spider-Man for Marvel?

This news might be disappointing to fans and equally as much Andrew Garfield who has been quick to point-out his dedicated fandom since childhood. Yet, this is kind of how Marvel will rebrand the franchise and make it their own. Fans have been clamouring for a crossover, and rebooting the Spider-Man franchise to be included within the MCU is sort of a means to an end. Let's not forget all the canonical plot holes that would be attributed to just shoving this Spidey into the MCU without explaining why he's never shown up to the crazy shit during Incredible Hulk and The Avengers. Not to mention having zero presence in the Netflix shows, which are all set in New York's Hells Kitchen.

It's a shame the connective issues and Andrew being the face of the failing franchise could see him getting pushed out of the role.

They also reporting what we've all been assuming, that Parker won't be apart of Captain America: Civil War. Unless he's only given a small cameo, it's unlikely that both a deal and a new actor will have been chosen by then.

So who should replace Andrew Garfield as Marvel's new Peter Parker?

I've been vocal on this for a while and have been campaigning for rising Texas actor Tye Sheridan. The young actor, who just turned eighteen is the right age for the role and has some extremely impressive credits within his body of work. Working alongside Jessica Chastain and Brad Pitt in Terrence Malick's Tree of Life. Another role in Mud saw him working with Matthew McConaughey, which was apart of Matthew's era of career resurrection. His performance opposite Nicholas Cage in Joe, earned him the Marcello Mastroianni Award award at the Venice Film Festival.

He will also be apart of the cast of Dark Places starring Charlize Theron, which is based on the novel from Gillian Flynn the author of Gone Girl. Tye is also not opposed to genre material, as he's co-starring in the zombie flick Scouts Vs Zombies.  The Yellow Birds would see him working with Doctor Strange himself Benedict Cumberbatch. Tye seems down to Earth while extremely focused on his craft, he's definitely more in the Marvel mould of actors than what Sony would be interested in.

Marvel Confirms Krysten Ritter For Netflix's JESSICA JONES

Marvel has confirmed Deadline's scoop that Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad) has been cast in the title role of the Netflix series Jessica Jones. Production will begin soon on location in New York City. A release date for the series hasn't been announced.

Krysten Ritter And Mike Colter Are Likely Marvel's JESSICA JONES/LUKE CAGE

Deadline is reporting that Krysten Ritter is a lock for the lead role of Jessica Jones in Netflix's second Marvel series. She apparently beat-out Aussie actress Teresa Palmer for the role. They also mention that their reads were with Luke Cage candidate Mike Colter (Halo Nightfall, Following), to feel-out chemistry. This could mean that Colter will be our Cage in the series. Since Luke is said to appear in multiple episodes of Jones, before his own solo series.

I'm a bit unimpressed with the body of work from Ritter, but will try to keep an open mind. Marvel has made some questionable casting moves in the past, which over time have won me over. From what I've seen with movie roles and small part on Breaking Bad, I'm not keen to see her in the role.


Mike Colter on the other hand has been hidden under the radar most of his career. He's got the dramatic and action chops to get to the core of Cage, and will obviously play a huge role within these shows. To say that Colter looks the part is a major understatement. I'm beyond stoked on Mike taking the role of Luke Cage and feel he'll end-up stealing scenes in the next four shows. As he's expected to also play a part in Iron Fist, before his own 13-episode run and then the Defenders series.

Mike Colter And Lance Gross Testing For Marvel's LUKE CAGE

Deadline also adds that the role of Luke Cage will be apart of 6-7 episodes of Jessica Jones, and Marvel is already testing for the role. The site confirms Mike Colter and Lance Gross (Crisis) have tested for Cage. Jones is next in the Netflix-Marvel series, with Cage being the last one. It's expected Luke would also play a huge role in the Iron Fist series as well, as the two work together as Heroes For Hire.

Colter seems like the standout to me having roles on popular shows as The Good Wife and The Following. He's also the lead in the Ridley Scott produced live-action video games series Halo: Nightfall. I feel like he has the best shot, out of the two actors. It should be noted that creatives for both Iron Fist and Luke Cage haven't been announced.

Character Actor Glenn Scott Will Play DAREDEVIL Mentor Stick

Marvel has announced that another iconic Daredevil character has joined the lineup of the Netflix series. Character actor Glenn Scott (Sucker Punch, Bourne Ultimatum, Silence of The Lambs, Hunt For Red October) has been cast as Murdock's mentor Stick. The character was shockingly absent from Fox's mess of a film, but made an appearance in Elektra and was played by Terrence Stamp. Marvel will have some sort of presentation for the series at New York Comic-Con. It's expected they could show images or footage from the show, which is still shooting. All 13-episodes will be released sometime in May for all you bingers.

Rosario Dawson Moves From SIN CITY To Hell's Kitchen, Joins DAREDEVIL Cast

Another actor has been cast in Marvel's Daredevil series, and THR reveals the newest addition is Rosario Dawson (Trance, Sin City 1-2, Death Proof, Kids) in an unnamed role. One that very well could be Jessica Jones, considering her high profile it's a strong possibility. The production for the series will begin soon in New York City and as expected Marvel is looking a strong film talent to fill roles.

Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire, Stardust) will play Matt Murdock/Daredevil and recently announced Vincent D'Onofrio (Jurassic World, Full Metal Jacket, The Cell, Brooklyn's Finest, Run All Night) will play Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin. Our suspected main villain of the series, or likely most of them.

STARDUST And BOARDWALK EMPIRE Actor Charlie Cox Is Officially Our New DAREDEVIL

Marvel has announced that British actor Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire, Stardust) has landed the role of Matt Murdock in their Daredevil series on Netflix. The 13-episode run is set to shoot this summer in New York City, with Steven DeKnight (Spartacus) showrunning the series. Drew Goddard was poised for the job originally, but had to exit to focus on Sony's Sinister Six. It's possible we could also see a new Elektra added to the cast as well, along with cameos from the other Defenders.

There's no word on villains, but it was revealed that Marvel has access to Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin. A rather formidable gangster that controls a majority of the crime in Hell's Kitchen. Other iconic villains include Bullseye, The Owl, The Hand, Typhoid Mary and Elektra. The latter two have played both love-interest and foe.

Steven DeKnight Showrunning DAREDEVIL Series, As Drew Goddard Focuses On SINISTER SIX

It's been a hectic weekend for Marvel Studios. First, Edgar Wright exits Ant-Man over possible script conflicts and now someone else leaves their television division. Marvel announces that Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods) will not be showrunning Daredevil. The Netflix series was expected to begin production this summer in New York City.

They've hired Steven DeKnight to replace Drew. Steven has worked on shows such as Buffy, Angel and showrunning Spartacus. Let's just hope this isn't another Agents of SHIELD situation, and DeKnight is a little more creative and canon with his series. DeKnight's Spartacus peers are the ones running Agents of SHIELD, so I'm a little worried. I assume that Goddard's writing-work on the few episodes he helped write won't be altered, but with Marvel's recent behind the scenes practices we can't assume that. Casting for the project should be begin very soon, and Dexter's Michael C. Hall expressed some interest.

Goddard was hired by Sony to write and direct their Spider-Man villain spin-off The Sinister Six. It was rumored that production that film could be begin as early as Winter/Spring 2015. This would mean that Drew would need the summer to tighten-up the script and then jump right into pre-production. This is supported in the press release by Marvel.

His commitments to Sinister Six wouldn't leave a lot of room to be the showrunner of a series. I'm going to place this in the conflict by Sony category and not Marvel's fault. We've seen this before when Fox dragged Josh Trank away from Sony's Venom to direct Fantastic Four, only for Sony to replace him with Alex Kurtzman.

Maybe this will mean Spartacus' Liam McIntyre will get into the mix for casting.

RUMOR: Zac Efron Might Be Getting A Role In A Marvel Studios Project

It's been a very busy week for Zac Efron, his comedy Neighors co-starring Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen was number one this weekend. Knocking-off Amazing Spider-Man 2 from the top-spot, earning an impressive $51 million. Making it one of the biggest openings for an R-rated comedy. It's now come to the attention of LatinoReview that Marvel Studios is now interested in Efron. They reported the following this afternoon.

We can exclusively report that Zac Efron is being looked at for unspecified role in an upcoming Marvel Studios project. He was given a script for the project just recently and currently no one knows which part is actually in play.

This comes about a day after we learned that Channing Tatum has landed the role of Gambit in the X-Men franchise, which would include a standalone film. I noticed that Zac Efron recently earned some respect from the comedy community, in the same way Tatum has from 21 Jump Street and This Is The End. Thanks in part to recent comedic roles and his hosting duties on SNL. I supported the suggestion that Zac could make an excellent young Scott Summers in future X-Men films.

It should also be noted that two of his co-stars (Miles Teller and Michael B Jordan) from That Awkward Moment were cast in The Fantastic Four reboot. So there was already a bit of a Marvel connection. Not to mention that Zac was linked for a Star Wars role, which many were surprised he didn't end-up getting (it might still happen). Efron has a longstanding history with Disney and the company placing one of their rising stars into a Marvel franchise wouldn't be unheard of.

The role and project are being kept unknown at this point, but it sounds like it won't be Doctor Strange (expected to be an older actor) or Black Panther. LR mentions the Netflix series which opens-the-door for Efron to be considered for both Daredevil and Iron Fist. We've seen a younger Danny Rand portrayed on the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon series, which has Agent Coulson as lead character. I would have to lean towards Iron Fist at this point, as some have pointed-out that Matt Murdock might be played by a more seasoned actor as well.

A couple of other roles could be Nova, Adam Warlock or Black Bolt, cosmic characters that would easily fit into a Captain Marvel movie, a sequel to Guardians of The Galaxy or the long in-development Inhumans film. It sounds like something the could be announced during Comic-Con along with the rest of Phase Three plans. That said, the character he is looking to play is included in an existing script.

Another character that has been teased for an extremely longtime, is Namor the Sub-Mariner. A movie has been in the works for ages at Universal Pictures, which actors such as Jason Statham mentioning interest. Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier have had easter eggs teasing the underwater prince. Only problem is that the film rights are at Universal, right? Well this didn't stop Marvel from including The Incredible Hulk into the Phase One lineup, when the production was split between the two studios. It's very possible a similar deal could be worked-out in the future.

SINISTER SIX Lineup Revealed And Aiming To Shoot In January?

SuperheroHype has images from an Sony teaser for Sinister Six, which is linked to Amazing Spider-Man 2. The tease includes hints to the lineup, that is apparently Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan), Rhino (Paul Giamatti), Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Kraven The Hunter and Chameleon (Kraven's half-brother). It does spoil things a bit by pointing out Venom and Electro aren't apart of the group. We heard that the film would would include a non-traditional lineup, but these villains are extremely traditional.

TheWrap on the other hand, seems to be uncertain if this will be our final lineup, even though Sony is the one behind this tease. Adding that the script is still being written by director Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods, Cloverfield, Daredevil) and is looking at a possible January production start. This gives the impression that Sinister Six could be released before Amazing Spider-Man 3. Jeff is also hearing the it's Mysterio, not Chameleon.

Drew Goddard Will Also Direct THE SINISTER SIX For Sony

THR is reporting that Drew Goddard is about to make a deal to direct Sony's Spider-Man spin-off Sinister Six. He previously was tapped to write the script with the intention to direct. Goddard is mostly known for his screenwriting credits for Cloverfield, Lost, Alias and World War Z. A production start or release date haven't been announced for the spin-off. Sony is also moving forward with a Venom movie.

He also worked with Joss Whedon on his shows Buffy and Angel. That relationship led to working together on the horror comedy Cabin In The Woods, which they co-wrote and Drew directed. Goddard was recently announced as the showrunner and writer for Marvel Studios' Daredevil series which will air on Netflix. The Daredevil series is expected to begin production this summer in New York City. Drew was expected to direct the pilot.

Sony Announces Directors For VENOM And SINISTER SIX Spin-Off Films

Sony announced today that they will indeed be moving forward with two Amazing Spider-Man spin-off movies, Venom which has been in development for years and one focusing the villain supergroup The Sinister Six. They went on to confirm new writers and directors for both projects, this comes off the recent reports that Sony was hinting to creating their own expanded Marvel Cinematic Universe with the Spider-Man characters.

Director Marc Webb and producer Avi Arad will head up the brain trust of the franchise which will see Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner (Fringe, Alias, Lost), Ed Solomon (Men In Black, Super Mario Bros, Charlie's Angels, Bill And Ted, Now You See Me) and Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods, Daredevil)  pen the scripts for the films, Kurtzman and Orci currently are involved with Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), Amazing Spider-Man 3 (2016) and Amazing Spider-Man 4 (2017). Nothing says this trust will stop at two spin-off films as there are plenty of characters that could get their own movies such as Black Cat, Morbius The Living Vampire (if they own the rights to him) and future set Spider-Man 2099 (think Star Trek Into Darkness or Minority Report with superheroes).

Alex Kurtzman is actually attached to direct Venom, which is a bit of a shocker since he's only made one film People Like Us, that didn't do so well with critics or box office as it wasn't able to even make back it's tiny $16 million dollar budget (even though Star Trek's Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks starred). Josh Trank (Chronicle) had originally been attached to direct but his commitments to Fox's Fantastic Four reboot might have led to his replacement. It also sounds like the studio is tossing the script from Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Zombieland). Alex has been better known as an accomplished writer helping pen scripts for Hercules, Xena, Alias, The Island, The Legend of Zorro, MI3, Transformers, Star Trek, Cowboys And Aliens, Fringe and Edge of Tomorrow. It will be interesting to see which host they'll turn to for the movie, Eddie Brock has been established with the viral campaign but the more heroic Flash Thompson is the current incarnation of the villain turned hero.

While Drew Goddard will direct The Sinister Six, this not being his first venture into the Marvel world. He's currently working on Marvel Studios' Daredevil Netflix pilot that he'll write and direct, Drew will also act as the series Showrunner. Besides being a writer at Lost, Drew co-wrote Cabin In The Woods with Joss Whedon which he also directed. Not unlike Alex, he has a longstanding record as a writer also helping pen scripts for Buffy, Angel, Lost, Alias, Cloverfield (and it's untitled) sequel along with last-minute rewrites to World War Z.

The final lineup hasn't been revealed but it looks like Harry/Green Goblin will be it's leader, as it's been teased he's behind creating the villains (such as Electro and Rhino). Other additions could include The Vulture, Doc Ock and possibly a cat-burglar with a bit of sweet-spot for Spider-Man. There had been previous hints that Black Cat could be involved with the group, if she does make the cut in this spin-off it might set her up as Spidey's side-kick/love interest in future films. It's possible that other members such as Kraven The Hunter or Mysterio won't be hinted to or cameo in the film.



No release or production start dates have been announced but it's possible we could see one of two spin-offs eye an 2015 release date. As 2015 won't have a Spider-Man title released in that year.

Chris Hemsworth Confirms More Marvel Sequels, Kevin Feige Talks THOR 3, PHASE THREE, DAREDEVIL And X-MEN Crossover

AccessHollywood was able to speak with Thor: The Dark World's Chris Hemsworth. The actor confirms his contract includes returning for Thor 3 and Avengers 3. Marvel hasn't announcement plans at the moment to include a third Thor film. So, it's possible if Thor: The Dark World reaches similar numbers to Iron Man 3 (unlikely but could break $800m) the studio will likely fast track a sequel for Phase Three. We already know big numbers don't equal sequels as Iron Man 4 doesn't seem to be the aim currently. Even with Shane Black game for more installments and the last film earning $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office. However, it led to Robert Downey Jr. signing up for Avengers: Age of Ultron and a yet untitled Avengers 3.

"I’ve got three left in my contract – from here on, I have two more Avengers and one more Thor and if people wanted to see more, I’d be happy to keep going. I love these stories and I love this character. The opportunity has opened up everything for me."

We've heard Loki actor Tom Hiddleston previously mention that he'd love to see Amora The Enchantress in a future film. Along with Hemsworth warming up to the idea of casting his Snow White And The Huntsman co-star Charlize Theron in that villainous role. Besides chatter from the actors nothing is officially slated for release. However, Kevin Feige briefly spoke to SlashFilm about the chances of seeing Loki before Thor 3, giving the impression they have at least an idea of what Thor 3 might look like. Also, stating we could be seeing two films in the Phase Two lineup focusing on existing MCU characters. A model which is seeming being put into practice starting in April 2014 with the Captain America sequel and leading to August's release of new franchise Guardians of The Galaxy.

"Yeah, I don’t think it would be before Thor 3 if there is a Thor 3 and while we certainly have ideas of where we would like that to go, there are no specifics. We have to see how this one does and then go from there."

"I think it’s important, in an ideal world, that we have an additional story on a pre-existing character and then introduce a new character. So next year is The Winter Solider, Guardians…Year after that, Age of Ultron, Ant-Man. That’s a nice rhythm. It might not always be like that. I mean [this year was] Iron Man 3 and The Dark World, so it won’t always be like that necessarily, but that’s certainly something to aim for. So we have additional stories of the existing characters in development and the new ones, all of which you’ve heard before."

While speaking on an Empire video chat (via CBM), Kevin Feige also dished on development plans for Daredevil and commented on an X-Men crossover. After previously talking about working X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner and getting his Marvel feet wet with the original X-Men film.

"Daredevil is back at Marvel, and there are lots of talented people figuring out what to do with him next. We love Daredevil, there are amazing stories -- the Bendis run over 5 or 6 years, running into a Brubaker run was amazing. All sorts of things before that era we could use -- so I think you can bet on seeing SOMETHING from Daredevil in the not to distant future." 

"In terms of an X-Men crossover, there are certainly no plans now -- I never say never to things like that, but I don't think it'll be anytime soon", Feige says, before joking that it'll be "Phase 27" before we see that happen."

Marvel's Kevin Feige is the face of Marvel Studios. So, when he drops hints and talks about future films we should take notice. He recently made the press rounds during the London premiere of Thor: The Dark World. Kevin gives his thoughts on the recent Ant-Man casting rumors (via HuffingtonPost) and the fate of Daredevil and The Punisher (via BleedingCool). What James Spader's performance as Ultron will entail for Avengers: Age of Ultron (via HuffingtonPost). When we can expect Doctor Strange (via Movies), a female heroine getting a film and the rest of the Phase Three lineup to be announced.

"Well, sometimes it's because we are legitimately talking, and sometimes it's just because he's a prominent actor out there now. And lots of rumors surround prominent actors..."Well, nothing is true yet. I like Paul Rudd, too." 

“We’re trying to figure out what to do with Daredevil now. Punisher could show up at one point. You know, once we get characters back into the Marvel fold we don’t want to do something right away, we want to do the smart thing at the smart time.”

"Well, I think it will be more than a voice role -- we'll be capturing his face and his body to create a whole performance. He's a very unique and incredibly exciting and unpredictable actor. And Ultron in the comics is a robot, but what's cool about him in the comics -- and certainly how Joss Whedon is interpreting him for the movie -- is that he is much more than just a robot. That he's infused with much character. And I don't want to say too much, but you can imagine James Spader will be very dynamic in his portrayal of this character....[Laughs] We did not hire James Spader to do a robot voice."

“Doc Strange, as I’ve been saying for years, is a movie I believe we should make — we’re just figuring out how to make it a great movie. It is in active development right now,” Feige told us. “Whether that’s one of the movies we announce for 2016 or 2017, we have to see. I think it’ll be the middle of next year before we announce officially what the post Ant-Man films will be."

"I know we have numerous exciting female heroes, whether none of them are currently slated, some of them are in development -- frankly, you can look at what Jane Foster does in [Thor: The Dark World], look at Pepper Potts literally saving the day and defeating the bad guy in Iron Man 3, and I'd say we already have great female heroes that are showcased and play major roles in our universe now. Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as you will see, features Black Widow in her biggest role yet in any of our films. In terms of a solo standalone female hero, I'm not sure when that will be. We make two movies a year, we've planned through 2015 and we have some ideas of what we're doing in 2016 and 2017, so we'll see what happens."

At the moment Marvel hasn't made any official announcements concerning the rest of the Phase Three releases besides Ant-Man in July 2015. However, there are a few new characters they've been trying to put together for their own films such as Doctor Strange, Inhumans, Black Panther, Heroes For Hire (or solo films for Luke Cage/Iron First), Ms. Marvel, Black Widow and possibly a new Hulk installment.

Strange and Black Panther have scripts in place which led to lots of casting rumors concerning both projects. Names like Viggo Mortenson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Javier Bardem, Benedict Cumberbatch and Joel Edgerton have been linked over the last couple of years/months. I personally like the idea of having Tom Hanks (recently is campaigning for any superhero role) take the role which is expected to become the Tony Stark of Phase Three. Since Marvel has a tendency to consider Disney alumni and Oscar caliber actors, Hanks seems like a solid candidate. Plus, it wouldn't hurt to give some age to the character. Panther on the other hand has had a overwhelming amount of actors interested in the role. Two of them have been apart the MCU,  The Dark World's Idris Elba and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Not to mention Guardians of The Galaxy's Djimon Hounsou who is among many favorites for the role. Along with others being linked or fan favorites such as Chadwick Boseman (42), Nate Parker (Non-Stop, Red Tails), Chitwetel Ejiofor (Children of Men, Serenity, 12 Years A Slave, American Gangster), David Oyelowo (The Butler, Planet of The Apes, Reacher), Aldis Hodge (Leverage) and Morris Chestnut (Kick-Ass 2, Nurse Jackie). It seems likely that both films are strong contenders for Phase Three.

The trades previously reported that Ms. Marvel has a script in development over at Marvel. Along with rumblings that Emily Blunt (Looper, Escape From Tomorrow) and Ruth Wilson (Luther, Lone Ranger) were in the running for the role. Even Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica, Riddick) tossed her hat in the ring for the part a few weeks back. We've heard Joss Whedon talk disliking the Carol Danvers incarnation of the character. So it's possible the studio could be going another route with her instead. Marvel recently bought Spawn's Angela and added her to books Age of Ultron and Guardians of The Galaxy. This combined with a new Ms. Marvel comic book on the way led BleedingCool to speculate that Angela could be the new Ms. Marvel. Allowing the character to exist without connections to The Kree and having defined/limited powers. While still having cosmic connections to The Guardians and even possibly Ultron. It's quite possible that Marvel could even move forward with Nicole Perlman's (Guardians of The Galaxy) script for the Black Widow film. Since Johansson's character will be getting a lot more screen time thanks to Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron.

Inhumans has been gathering steam for sometime and at one point was competing with Guardians of The Galaxy as the second last release in Phase Two, before Avengers: Age of Ultron. There is talk the film is going to be the MCU's version of the X-Men with Inhumans possibly replacing mutants. There is also talk of taking influence from Game of Thrones having warring factions within the world of Ihumans. Some speculation that Vin Diesel's real Marvel role could be that of Black Bolt and taking Groot in Guardians was just to get his foot in the door. Besides a script there isn't else much in place with the film but there is chatter it's further along in development than most suspect.

The Hulk was obviously the breakout character in The Avengers and around it's release there was talk that a new film could be on it's way. Joss Whedon and Mark Ruffalo talked about putting it together, with Joss considering writing it. Since then there had been rumblings that stories such as Planet Hulk (Hulk is banished to a warring planet which is populated with aliens as strong as he is) and Indestructible Hulk (Hulk is apart of S.H.I.E.L.D and is s hero rather than a fugitive) could be source material for a new string of movies. There's even a new cartoon Hulk And The Agents of S.M.A.S.H. which could be easily help influence a film. Instead of having Banner on the run making him the primary hero.

Gareth Evans Is Open To Making Marvel Film In The Future, Let's Hope It's HEROES FOR HIRE

Indonesian director Gareth Evans is clearly making a name for himself in the action world. His debut feature The Raid captured everyone in love with both action and martial arts films. He's currently filming it's sequel and was recently asked by FlicksAndTheCity if he'd consider making a superhero film. More specifically a Marvel one and his answer is interesting.

"It's tough. The thing is right now, where I am, the kind of things that I'm doing, I don't know if I fit the superhero mold yet. It's something I need to learn at some point but I don't know if I can deliver a PG-13 movie. I don't know how to do that yet. I should learn but yeah, I'm not sure. Maybe a darker, superhero [film] from Marvel."

The one Marvel project that comes to mind that would be perfect for Evans would be Heroes For Hire. A while back Marvel's Joseph Loeb let slip they were developing a Heroes For Hire film. Likely, setting up a ground level Marvel team that would include Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Two characters that have had their own solo films in development for ages. Combining them into one movie would solve issues of their crowded release rollout.

"Just like we just announced Guardians of the Galaxy, we are certainly looking at the Heroes for Hire franchise which is Luke Cage and Iron Fist."

The film should also include characters such as Moon Knight and The Punisher. Which could finally solve the problem of how to make a movie with Frank Castle that people will actually pay to see. Along with the possibility of throwing rebooted versions of Blade and Daredevil into the mix as well. All of them street level heroes based in New York City and since the rights are back at Marvel they might as well use them.

While they could be decent solo features a bigger team-up adventure would be a great way to introduce a great deal of Marvel heroes leading up the rumored Civil War/Thanos battle in Avengers 3. We have some idea of what the Phase Three lineup will look like. Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and possibly features such as Black Panther, Inhumans and a new Hulk film. A Heroes For Hire film would seemingly grab the attention of the action driven audiences who fork all of their money to see films like Fast And The Furious. Imagine setting a Marvel team film in the world crime and throwing in actual superheroes and super villains in there, it could be something very unique. Gareth brings a lot of style and validity to the table. Similar to when Marvel hired Game of Thrones' Alan Taylor to make Thor: The Dark World. So having him involved could also help gain a little more attention to the project.

Irdis Elba has been meeting with Marvel for a while now about playing a second role in the MCU. His wish-list of roles includes Black Panther, Blade and Luke Cage. Considering Marvel's interest in Legendary Pictures' Godzilla main cast Aaron Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen for Avengers: Age of Ultron. It wouldn't be a stretch to see them also looking at cast members in Legendary international smash Pacific Rim as well. Elba as Luke Cage makes a whole lot of sense with his gritty roles on shows such as The Wire and Luther. Charlie Hunnam has equally as much background in street level themes with his series Sons of Anarchy. Plus, he showed off some impressive fighting abilities in Pacific Rim. Which could be amped up ten-fold by Gareth's stunt team and fight trainers. Hunnam was actually in the mix for Thor and Captain America at one point. So having him play Danny Rand could be just as exciting.

Ryan Reynolds Says DEADPOOL's Rating Holding Back It's Greenlight, Could Director Tim Miller Exit?

HeyUGuys while interviewing Ryan Reynolds about his animated film The Croods got a brief comment about Deadpool's current status. It doesn't sound like Fox is ready to put it into production just yet, as the rating might be holding it back. Nothing says the studio will change their mind since there are plenty of R-rated comic book films coming out this year. It's had a script in place by Paul Wernick and Rheet Reese (Zombieland, Venom, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) for years now along with Tim Miller attached to direct.

"It's up to the studio. The studio I think is reluctant to pull the trigger on such a hard Rated-R script. Then the guys who wrote it and the producers won't make it unless it's that hard and, you know, raunchy." 

Fox at the moment is busy with The Wolverine (coming in July), X-Men Days of Future Past (shooting   this Spring/Summer) and The Fantastic Four reboot (later this year or early 2014). R-rated comic book films are getting more of upswing recently. 300, Sin City and Kick-Ass have been very popular and profitable R-rated comic book films post-Blade. All three movies will have sequels released in 2013 and are expected to make a solid amount of box office. So it's hard to think the rating is the only thing holding Deadpool back. Fox is also putting together an adaptation of Mark Millar's Nemesis with Joe Carnahan (attached to write/direct) which is also going to end up with a hard R-rating.

On the production side of things, since landing the directing gig on Deadpool Tim Miller has signed on to make a numerous amount of other films including Gravel (Legendary Pictures), Seasons (Sony Pictures) and just recently Artemis (20th Century Fox). I assume Miller's involvement with the film could be questionable at this point with three other films in development. My assumption is that Joe Carnahan might end up taking over direction duties. Joe already put together another Marvel film for Fox with their attempt at a Daredevil reboot. He also tried to put together a film based on the Marvel villain Taskmaster for Fox.

The elephant in the room is the disaster of Green Lantern bombing and it's massive failure could have tainted Ryan's career as a lead in superhero films. Rumblings that R.I.P.D. could have similar issues might be giving Fox cold-feet about having Ryan kept as the lead of the film. So don't be shocked if Reynolds leaves the production and Fox looks for other actors. I could see actual comedic actors like Jason Segel, Zachary Levi and Bill Hader be considered if Ryan ultimately leaves. If Chris Pratt can get super ripped for Guardians of The Galaxy these guys can do the same.

SPECULATION: Could Joe Carnahan Replace Tim Miller As DEADPOOL Director If He Exits?

Deadpool has been in development limbo for months even with a script and director in place. Fox is eager to put out a slew of new Marvel films including The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Fantastic Four it's odd that Deadpool isn't being fast-tracked. Last we heard, Fox was trying to figure out the best way to make the R-rated film with Mark Millar as the studio's new creative consultant.

Tim Miller had been hired to direct after talks with Robert Rodriguez broke down. Miller last spoke about the project in October and seemed optimistic. However, Miller has since signed on to direct two big studio films Gravel and Seasons along with major involvement on the animated film The Goon. This gives the impression these other projects will likely force him to exit Deadpool.

"We've turned in an amazing script and done some early tests and visual development that -- I'm confident -- would get the fans stoked. And Ryan still loves the project. So it's really up to Fox as to whether or not the film happens -- all I can do is hope (and beg periodically) that it be allowed to move ahead."

If Miller exits my bet would be on Joe Carnahan (The Grey, Narc) being contacted to direct. This is because of his connection to all parties involved. Joe worked with Ryan on Smokin' Aces and is attached to direct Mark Millar's Nemesis for Fox. He had been hired by the studio to put together a reboot of Daredevil which ultimately didn't happen. It seemed the studio wasn't confident in the material as the rights reverted back to Marvel. That doesn't mean Joe wouldn't be considered for future Marvel films. He had been talking with Fox about developing a Taskmaster film a while back. Besides Carnahan has Nemesis and a remake of Death Wish in development, neither have started pre-production.

Director David Slade Exits 'DAREDEVIL' Reboot

Marvel properties at 20th Century Fox are slowing coming together with The Wolverine and the X-Men First Class sequel about to go into production. The same can't be said about Fox's Daredevil reboot as Deadline reports that David Slade (30 Days of Night) has dropped out as it's director.

Fox will have to find another director soon or the rights will revert back to Marvel/Disney if the film isn't made. I'm sure fans of the Hell's Kitchen hero would love that to happen. Considering it could be awesome to finally see Daredevil and Black Widow team-up in a movie. Not to mention see a faithful adaptation of the character. It wouldn't be hard to imagine Murdock showing up in the Black Widow spin-off film if Marvel regains the rights.

RUMOR: 'DAREDEVIL' Reboot Stalled Over Terrible Script?

There has been little to zero development on 20th Century Fox's Daredevil reboot with David Slade attached to direct. It doesn't bowd well for the project that went into high gear to avoid the film rights reverting back to Marvel in the first place. Fox had set Fringe writer Brad Caleb Kane to pen the script. Word from LatinoReview that Fox looking for a new writer, giving the impression the studio is unhappy with the script from Kane. Previously Slade updated stating that the reason the film wasn't moving forward was a "boring" one. This leads me to believe that the script was horrible enough for the studio to scrap the whole thing and start from scratch with a new screenwriter.

"The script for DAREDEVIL is wack. So wack that guess what kids, it's now an open writing assignment! They're looking for a new writer."

RUMOR: Taylor Kitsch Also In The Mix For Daredevil?

MovieHole has briefly mentioned that Taylor Kitsch has been added to the candidates for the Daredevil reboot. 20th Century Fox has set David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) to direct and write which will be based on the gritty Frank Miller (300, Sin City) runs of the comics. Kitsch is going to have a make or break year with massive blockbusters John Carter and Battleship heading to theaters. If successful there is already a John Carter sequel expected to go into production with the working title Gods of Mars. Disney hasn't greenlit the sequel so it could leave an opening for Taylor to make Daredevil sometime this year. Considering there doesn't seem to be a source listed I would take this as just a rumor.

Some might be skeptical about this rumor because he once played Gambit in Fox's Wolverine. However, it looks like Fox has scrapped previous incarnations of the X-Men characters with Matthew Vaughn's First Class reboot. This leads me to believe that we'll see all new actors portraying our favorite mutants (minus Wolverine of course) in future First Class sequels. The raging Cajun seems like he could be great addition to Vaughn's swinging 60's era X-Men universe. There were rumblings that Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass, Savages) could be playing either a new Gambit or Cyclops. Even the Wolverine sequel will be a one-off and likely won't have any connection to the first film. Not leaving room for Gambit to return for the sequel. I expect that we could see a completely re-shot origin for Wolvie to further separate the two films.

There is a new trend of actors playing multiple comic book roles like Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Captain America), Ryan Renyolds (Blade 3, Green Lantern, Deadpool, R.I.P.D.), Ray Stevenson (Thor, Punisher, G.I. Joe) and Idris Elba (Thor, Losers, Ghost Rider). I wouldn't be too concerned that Kitsch played a supporting character in a terrible comic book film. It doesn't exclude him from playing other heroes or villains in the future. That being said a few other actors have been previously linked to the project which includes Xavier Samuel, Garret Hedlund (Troy, Tron Legacy) and Bradley Cooper (Hangover, Limitless). Warner Bros. recently put an axe to both Akira and Paradise Lost which could give Hedlund and Cooper an opening to make the film as well.
