RUMOR: Armie Hammer And Edgar Wright Spotted On CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Set, Will Hammer Have A Role In ANT-MAN Or The MCU?

ScreenRant was able to speak with actor Armie Hammer (Social Network, J. Edgar) during his press junket for Disney's The Lone Ranger. They brought up that Armie and Ant-Man director Edgar Wright had been spotted on the set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Which has fuelled speculation that Hammer could be involved with the MCU and it's likely he could have a lead role in Ant-Man. Hammer does confirm that he was indeed on set but Edgar Wright took to Twitter to deny he was ever there.

Hammer had been originally cast as Batman in George Miller's purposed Justice League film which got the axe. Having Armie take on a superhero role isn't much of a stretch. Cobie Smulders who played Maria Hill in Avengers had been eyed for Wonder Woman in Joss Whedon's purposed film which never ended up getting off the ground. Not to mention his Lone Ranger co-stars have also been linked previously to Marvel projects. Johnny Depp had been wanted for the role of Doctor Strange a few years back and Ruth Wilson is apparently on the studio's radar for Ms. Marvel or another part. Also, Simon Pegg had stated he wouldn't play Ant-Man because the role was going to an American actor.

It's possible Joss Whedon and Edgar Wright have already talked about including characters from Ant-Man in Avengers 2, to setup Ant-Man as the first stage of Phase Three. Having either Hank Pym or Scott Lang have a small cameo in Captain America 2 wouldn't be hard to imagine. Since we've seen similar setups with other Marvel films. It's also possible that Hammer could be up for another part in the MCU which is considerably endless with Doctor Strange, Inhumans and other films on the horizon.

Cavill is still in talks at this point for the role of American spy Napoleon Solo.

Jack White To Score 'THE LONE RANGER'

Variety reports that former White Stripes frontman Jack White has been hired by Disney to score The Lone Ranger. The film directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates 1-3, Rango) stars Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer and Ruth Wilson. It will be interesting to hear what direction the film's score will end up considering the Spanish guitars that were used in the western themed Rango. I would assume that we'll end up getting some traditional Navajo music mixed in there.

William Fichtner Will Play Lone Ranger Villain

Deadline reports that character actor William Fichtner has replaced Dwight Yoakum (Crank 1-2) as the villain in Gore Verbinski's (Pirates 1-3) The Lone Ranger. Fichtner is best known for memorable roles in films like Armageddon, The Dark Knight, Heat, Black Hawk Down and Drive Angry. He also has a part in Neill Blomkamp's upcoming science fiction epic Elysium. I'm glad to see William featured in another high profile project. The rest of the cast includes Armie Hammer (Social Network), Johnny Depp, Ruth Wilson (Luther), James Badge Dale (The Pacific, The Departed), Tom Wilkinson, Helena Bonham Carter and Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan).

Original Cast Members Locked In For Lone Ranger, Other Actors Also Wanted

Deadline reports that Disney has locked in Armie Hammer (Social Network), Johnny Depp (as Tonto) and Ruth Wilson (Jane Eyre, Prisoner, Luther) for the leads in Gore Verbinski's (Pirates 1-3) Lone Ranger. It had been unknown even with Disney agreeing to a lowered budget that the cast would still be able to commit to the movie. The studio is interested in casting Tom Wilkinson as the film's villain. Helena Bonham Carter, James Badge Dale (Departed, The Pacific) and Dwight Yoakum (Crank 1-2) are also wanted for roles.

I'm all for more Disney films from Gore Verbinski but the western genre hasn't been in the best shape lately. Here's hoping that Gore can do for the western he did for the pirate genre. That being said I'm curious to see how much damage Mirror Mirror is going to do to Armie's creditability as a lead actor. As the goofy family film could make audiences cringe when trying to picture him as the masked avenging cowboy.

Armie Hammer Joins Tarsem Singh's Snow White & Saoirse Ronan Could Play The Lead

Things are heating for Tarsem Singh's (The Fall, The Immortals) The Brothers Grimm: Snow White as Deadline reports on some casting updates. They confirm that Armie Hammer (Social Network) has been cast as the Prince and Saoirse Ronan (Hanna, Atonement) is talks for Snow White. It's great news as the only previous casting was an odd choice of Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. If Saoirse takes the part it would rule her out of The Hobbit.

With Hammer and possibly Ronan in the leads this could end up being the more solid of the Snow White films in development. Tarsem recently wrapped the Greek mythology epic The Immortals with new Superman Henry Cavill. It doesn't look good for Snow White & The Huntsman as they only have Kristen Stewart committed to the film.

Naomi Watts Joins DiCaprio In Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar

Deadline reports that Naomi Watts (Eastern Promises) has joined Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar.Watts took over the role when Charlize Theron left the film to focus on other projects. The cast is lead by Leonardo DiCaprio with Armie Hammer, Josh Lucas, Ed Westwick and Judi Dench.

I've been hesitant to report on the film considering Eastwood's tepid outings with Changeling and Hereafter have burned me before. Let's just hope Eastwood can return to the greatness of Mystic River. It also feels like Clint has been trying too hard to make Oscar bait rather making a solid entertaining film.

Armie Hammer Being Considered For Superman

Deadline is reporting on possible candidates for the role of Clark Kent in Zack Snyder's Superman. They list Armie Hammer, Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries) and the previously rumored Joe Manganiello (True Blood). Coming off the Social Network, Armie is the best of the bunch. Hammer was previously cast as Batman in George Miller's Justice League film before it got scrapped.
