Terry Crews Moves Sights From LUKE CAGE To Fox's SILVER SURFER

During an Q&A on Reddit's AMA actor Terry Crews got a chance to answer fan questions about his career and his future. Of course Luke Cage was brought-up as the actor was a huge fan-favorite for the role and even expressed interest in taking the role in the upcoming Netflix series.

Marvel placed Mike Colter in the Cage role which means he'll have to campaign for another hero. Terry might be already setting his sights on another iconic comic book role. That character being The Silver Surfer which happens to still be at 20th Century Fox.

Again... it's hard to pick a favorite super-hero. I always did love Luke Cage, and I'm really, really happy about who they cast in the Netflix version of Luke Cage. So that's something that's already done. But you know who else I'd like to play? The Silver Surfer. I always LOVED - I thought I had the build, the body, I could get on that surfboard, and if they ever do a live-action version of Silver Surfer, I think that would be perfect for me.

We all know that Crews has a huge personality and would be perfect for this genre, hopefully he get's a shot with Surfer. Let's not forget that Terry has a good relationship with Fox working on two of their shows currently with Brooklyn 99 and World's Funniest Fails.


At the moment there aren't immediate plans to have the character used in feature films.

However, with Josh Trank's Fantastic Four sequel being fast-tracked for a 2017 release date, it's possible they could incorporate the character into the sequel.

Another possibility is that Fox could finally move forward with their solo Silver Surfer movie.

The studio had tried for a while to make that project happen. Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City, Gods of Egypt, I Robot) was attached to direct but when speaking to MTV in 2012, he had some choice words for 20th Century Fox being the reason he would never make the film.

“Because it’s a Fox picture..And I’m determined never to work with them ever again because of my experience on ‘I,Robot.’”

“It’s like the origin of Silver Surfer was in that movie, and I’m going, ‘This is such a f--king great story, why throw it away?’” Proyas wondered. “I think they messed it up.”


“You know, there aren’t that many [good comic book characters] left,” [Proyas] sighed. “Silver Surfer would have been something I would have loved to have done. He’s one of the last cool ones left, really.”


At that era at Fox we can't blame Alex for ditching the studio as they were making horrible superhero films at the time. Some of the those titles include Daredevil, Elektra, Fantastic Four 1-2, X-Men 3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The dumb Fantastic Four films did essentially kill the hope for a spin-off at the time.

Yet, when Marvel had been in talks with Fox to extent the rights for Daredevil so they could reboot the character they wanted Silver Surfer and Galactus back which Fox refused to agree upon. The talk being that Marvel Studios wanted to include those characters in James Gunn's Guardians of The Galaxy.

Fox is currently upping their Marvel slate of films and it's not impossible for the new heads of the studio to consider putting Surfer back into development.

You might be shocked to learn that Fox pretty much has a bulk of Marvel's cosmic universe thanks to the X-Men and Fantastic Four/Silver Surfer rights.

Marvel Studios actually has a limited amount of access to their cosmic characters. Here's a rundown of the crazy amount of Marvel cosmic characters Fox likely has access to for their films, most of which have never made it onto the screen.

Terry Crews Changes Mind, Waiting For Marvel To Call About LUKE CAGE Audition

Luke Cage is one of four live-action Marvel series that will air on Netflix, leading to a Defenders mini-series. It seems like Terry Crews is putting his name back in the ring, after excluding himself in respect of his Old Spice pal Isaiah Mustafa, according to a new interview with Collider. Isaiah put himself out there as contender for Luke Cage, putting out his own promo video. Crews added that he's waiting for a call from Marvel. At this point, a creative team hasn't been announced but I'm sure Marvel has people already working on it.

“Anything can happen. All I know is scheduling and all that stuff—anything can happen. I’m open to all kinds of things, but who knows? Actually I took myself out of the Luke Cage running a while back, just because it was people trying to put people against each other. [It was] Idris vs. Michael Jai and I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, this is not even greenlit! Can we talk to Marvel? Why are you talking to me? Don’t put me against my homeboy for a movie that’s not existing.’ I said, ‘Take me out!’ 

“I heard [it’s greenlit] but I haven’t gotten any calls. I’ve been hearing stuff like, ‘oh you’re too old,’ and I’m like, ‘Man do my workout 20 years ago and we’ll talk about who’s too old (laughs).’”

 “Like I said, anything can happen, I never rule anything out. I’m game. There are no rules. What’s up, Marvel? I’m right here, baby. I ain’t goin nowhere. You know where I live!” 

Crews has been slowly creeping his way into pop culture, and it's been one hell of a ride. Known for beefy action roles in movies like The Expendables trilogy and Old Spice viral ads. He's also taken a shine to more comedic roles on television on shows such as Everyone Hates Chris, Arrested Development, The Newsroom and his new hit series on Fox Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Not to mention comedic supporting roles in movies like Bridesmaids, Get Smart, and his breakout performance in Idiocracy.

He has a Marvel connection voicing Blade in the Ultimate Spider-Man series. He had been originally been a fan favorite for the role, along with Dwayne Johnson. Terry has all the charm, comedic-timing, psychical presence and personality needed for a role like this. Hopefully, Marvel jumps on this and at least has him test for it.

Kelsey Grammer Joins EXPENDABLES 3 Taking A Role Ment For Nicolas Cage, Plus Terry Crews Tweets New Set Photo

Deadline reports that notorious bad boy Kelsey Grammer (X-Men: The Last Stand, Boss, Transformers: Age of Extinction) has been tapped to join the cast of The Expendables 3. His role of ex-mercenary Bonaparte was originally offered to Nicolas Cage who apparently turned it down. I assume if Cage was to join the franchise he'd want a bigger part in it. The rest of the new additions include Harrison Ford, Milla Jovovich, Wesley Snipes and Jackie Chan. Also, actor Terry Crews posted a photo of himself with other cast members on the set. Bruce Willis was expected to return but payment issues caused the actor to leave the production.

Mel Gibson To Play Villain In EXPENDABLES 3?

Showbiz411 is reporting that a source confirms to them that Mel Gibson will have a role in Expendables 3. The Aussie actor turned director actually had been put out as a directorial contender by Sly Stallone via Twitter earlier in the year. However, fellow Australian director Patrick Hughes (Red Hill) ended up landing the gig. Gibson's role is being linked as one of the villains of the third installment. They also state that Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger will also be reprising their roles as well.

Mel recently took on the main baddie part in Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills and was wanted for another villainous part in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For (which likely didn't workout). I personally really enjoyed Mel's last action outing, so I'm sort of excited to see him getting back to his action roots ala Mad Max and Lethal Weapon. The rest of the new additions might include Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan, Nicolas Cage and Milla Jovovich.

Milla Jovovich In Talks To Join Patrick Hughes' EXPENDABLES 3 Coming August 2014

Finally, it sounds like we have confirmation of sorts that Stallone is actually pursuing a female action star for a lead role in Expendables 3. Milla Jovovich is in advanced talks to join the boys club and likely adding to the body count. She's best known for C-Level action flicks along with the successful "I can't believe it's still around" Resident Evil franchise. Originally, Sly had thrown Gina Carano's name but her demand might be a little too high this time around. The talks also include Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan and possibly Nicolas Cage taking roles as well.

It's expected Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren and Arnold Schwarzenegger will return as well. Aussie newcomer Patrick Hughes (Red Hill) has been chosen to direct the third installment. The studio has set the release date for August 15th 2014. John Woo (MI2, The Killer, Hard Boiled, Face/Off) and Mel Gibson (Braveheart, Passion of The Christ) had been names previously linked for the director's chair.

CAST EM': Guardians Of The Galaxy

At the moment casting is in full swing for both Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, we haven't heard anything on Guardians of The Galaxy since they're still trying to wrangle James Gunn as it's director. I've come up with a few of my own casting choices for the game-changing superhero project that will see Marvel enter the off-world (also set in future?) science fiction epic genre. Guardians has the potential to be the next Star Wars for the studio as it would open the door to the cosmic world which has only been hinted to in previous films.

Steven Segal Offered Role In 'EXPENDABLES 3'

It looks like Expendables 3 could already be in development even though the second film hasn't even been released yet. Two separate statements from actors give the impression that Sly and studio are at least thinking about the third film. News comes from JoBlo that Steven Segal could be in Expendables 3 as an offer has been made. Segal's last big screen appearance was in Robert Rodriguez's Machete as that film's villain so anything is possible.

"He [Sylvester Stallone] plans to do another one and I have already been made an offer. We'll see ... "

There had been talk of Steven joining the first two films but it never worked out. Apparently there was issue with a business partner of Jean-Claude Van Damme which blocked Segal's chances of showing up in the second film. Either way it looks promising that the Steven could end up capping off the aging action hero trilogy. Randy Couture mentioned a few weeks back that they are planning a fall 2012 shoot for Expendables 3. However, neither the studio or Stallone have announced any plans for a third film. It begs the question has director Simon West or cast even resigned for another film?

Stallone Changes Expendables 2 Rating To Restricted

It looks like Sly Stallone is again caving to pressure from the online community to change the rating of Expendables 2. A few months back rumors of a PG-13 rating had been confirmed by Stallone which enraged the fans. Originally, the first film had been shot for PG-13 rating but later would get added digital blood and dubbed swearing. It looks like the second film will also be going in that direction as well as Sly confirms to StalloneZone (via SlashFilm) the sequel will indeed be rated R. . The film starring Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Liam Hemsworth, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Scott Atkins will be released on August 17th 2012.

Arnold Schwarzenegger tweeted this first image from the set of Expendables 2. Which shows Arnold alongside Stallone and Bruce Willis. I'm beyond excited for this action star filled epic in the making.

Scott Adkins Joins Expendables 2

Yet another rising action star has joined the adrenaline fueled Expendables 2. MovieHole reports that British up and coming martial artist Scott Adkins will play Jean-Claude Van Damme's henchman. Adkins and Van Damme have previously worked together on The Shepard, Assassin Games and the upcoming Universal Soldier: A New Dimension. Scott has appeared as a badass fighter in films like The Tournament, Unleashed (Danny The Dog) along with the body/stunt double for Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He's also reasonable for creating a beast of a character with Undisputed 2 & 3's Yuri Boyka. I really hope this role ends up helping out Scott breakout into mainstream Hollywood projects.

Currently the sequel's impressive cast includes Sly Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games). It's set for an August 17th 2012 release date with it's production starting up very soon.

Release Date For Expendables 2 In 2012

It looks like Lionsgate is moving forward with Expendables 2 as the studio has announced the release date of August 17th 2012. Sly Stallone has come out to say he won't be directing the film but a script is underway written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman. Bruce Willis' Church has been mentioned as returning as the film's main villain along with a possible larger role for Arnold Schwarzenegger. Also talk of Jean-Claude Van Damme coming in after turning down the first film. It's unknown who will be returning but it's expected the main lineup will be back. Currently there isn't an official director or start date in place.

JCVD Likely To Join Expendables 2 & Steven Segal Will Not?

MovieHole picked up some quotes from writer/director Sheldon Lettich (Double Impact) who is still friends with Jean-Claude Van Damme and is working on Double Impact 2 with him. He  mentions the action star is leaning towards making Expendables 2. Jean-Claude famously turned down a role in the first film and has since regretted his decision. He also says that the involvement of Steven Segal could be an issue for Expendables producer Avi Lerner who has a bad history with Segal.

“JC seems to be leaning towards appearing in the sequel, as far as I know. If Steven Seagal is not in the sequel, from what I’ve heard it won’t be because of Sly but because of producer Avi Lerner, who had a few bad experiences with Steven.”


While Jean-Claude's last decent film that was playing in theaters was 1996's Maximum Risk. He's been able to make some decent films such as the dramatic turn in JCVD and solid return to action with Universal Solider: Regeneration. I believe like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Van Damme has a limited amount of action roles left in him and Expendables 2 could be a great end to his career in the genre.

Schwarzenegger & Tom Arnold Teaming Up For Expendables 2?

Tom Arnold was talking up a new film with former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Howard Stern yesterday. He didn't name the project but does admit the roles are similar to the ones they had in True Lies. While Tom previously mentioned a sequel to True Lies months back which seems unlikely. I believe it very well could be Expendables 2 and it makes sense. Arnold is expected to return to acting and his cameo in Expendables led many to think it was foreshadowing him returning for larger role in the sequel.

Bruce Willis will play the film's main villain and Charlie Sheen is rumored for a role. Sly is also rumored to be in talks with Jean Claude Van Damme who turned down a role in first film. I expect the next film is going to be bigger, louder and feature more body counts (if that's even possible).
