AJ Edwards In-Talks To Direct MACE WINDU Movie For Lucasfilm?

Director AJ Edwards (The Better Angels) addressed rumors he was involved with new Star Wars films on Reddit. He confirmed he was in-talks for a film that would focus on jedi knight Mace Windu. Keeping mum on the rest of the details, or if it was a sure thing. Edwards is known for working closely with director Terrence Malick, helping him on four films. Those include The New World, Tree of Life, To The Wonder and his next film Knight of Cups. Hearing him speak during interviews gives the impression he's not the joking type and is dead-serious.

Lucasfilm is moving forward with at least two other spin-offs with directors Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters) and Josh Trank (Chronicle, Fantastic Four). The spin-offs would be released between the main episodic installments. A Boba Fett film is possibly being written by Larry Kasdan (Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of The Lost Ark, The Force Awakens). There has also been chatter that Han Solo and Obi Wan Kenobi could be getting their own films too.



We saw Mace's arm hacked-off with a lightsaber and thrown out a window. However, Samuel L. Jackson has pointed out you never actually saw him die. Leaving the window open for him to return, and we have a good idea that Jackson would love to reprise the role. Since he actively campaigned Lucas to land a role in Phantom Menace. Windu along with Kenobi were the few highlights of the prequels, and I'm sure you won't hear much groaning if he got a spin-off.

It's extremely doubtful we'll see that Nick Fury movie Marvel was developing years back, the great thing about Star Wars age isn't a big factor for jedi. The future of Sam's role within the MCU might be coming to end soon once they head-out to the cosmic side for Infinity War. He also has an excellent relationship with Disney and Lucasfilm.

I can't help but think Windu would be a perfect character to lead that Seven Samurai inspired jedi film Zack Snyder pitched to Lucasfilm. Having it set years after the events of Episode III, with the remaining jedi hiding from the clutches of the Empire. Depending on when they want the film to be set it could actually directly connected to the characters from Rebels.

RUMOR: Did Drew Krapyshyn Write A Script For A KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC Film?

AICN has posted an interesting new Star Wars rumor that could get a lot of fans backing this next possible film. The site first mentions that many ideas and possible films are being thrown around at the offices of LucasFilm. Likely, pertaining to recent comments that while spin-offs such as Boba Fett, Yoda and Han Solo are still on the table they haven't been moved any further than just talk. However, this new rumor could be a little more tangible if true.

The rumor is that Drew Karpyshyn might be or has penned a Knights of The Old Republic script for LucasFilm. He's best known for helping develop video games such as Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Knights of The Old Republic and The Old Republic. Not to mention writing expanded universe novels for both Mass Effect and Star Wars. Drew recently left game developer BioWare last year to focus on screenwriting. Apparently, the rumor circling the BioWare office is that Drew is working on script for The Old Republic. Nothing confirmed, but fans expecting something new and not connected to the original trilogy will be happy if this happens.

If a script does in fact exist there is a chance that this could be the project Zack Snyder was pitching to LucasFilm. This is my speculation but if true this could allow Snyder his own Star Wars trilogy focusing on The Old Republic era. Giving both LucasFilm and Snyder the freedom to create a whole new Star Wars franchise. While also continuing the Skywalker adventures with J.J. Abrams handling Episodes VII, VIII, IX and beyond.

YODA And JABBA Spin-Offs In The Works At LucasFilm?

AICN is reporting that they're hearing that Disney/LucasFilm are hot to get production started on the first of many spin-off Star Wars films. They say that the first one will focus on Master Yoda. Details are scarce but it could involve him during his 800 years of training jedi or after the events of Episode III. I would be curious to find out if this is the same project that Zack Snyder was pitching to the studio which was going to be inspired by The Seven Samurai. Either way the studio wants Yoda to be the first spin-off.

Someone on twitter quickly suggested Andy Serkis if they go with a motion capture/CGI mix for Yoda. Serkis has been the biggest name in the motion capture performance playing Gollum in LOTR/Hobbit films, Caesar in Rise/Dawn of The Planet of The Apes along with Captain Haddock in the Tintin films. An excellent choice but they could also look to use a more puppet/CGI rig that could see Frank Oz return as well.

They also briefly mention that a Jabba film is also in the works. That could follow the criminal world of the Huts and very well could be combined with Joe Johnston's Boba Fett. Joe had been mentioning in interviews back in 2011 he was pitching a Boba Fett movie to Lucas.

Writers Lawrence Kasdan (Empire Strikes Back, Return of The Jedi, Raiders of The Lost Ark) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men Days of Future Past) were hired to write unnamed off-shoots, so it's possible they're already working on treatments/outlines. LucasFilm is said to be looking at Marvel Studios for inspiration releasing solo adventures then a giant even film (an Episode installment) every 2-3 years.

RUMOR: Could Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman And Kevin Costner Join Tom Cruise In 'THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN' ?

I'm not one for using British tabloids as sources but this rumor from The Sun is too interesting to pass on. They "report" that Matt Damon is eyeing a role in the Magnificent Seven originally played by Steve McQueen. Tom Cruise has already been confirmed by the trades for the lead role which could help attract other high-profiled talent The paper also sites more likely candidates such as Morgan Freeman and Kevin Costner also looking to join the film. The original 1960 western was an American take on the classic Akira Kurosawa film The Seven Samurai. We should expect an explosive amount of westerns put into production if Quentin Tarantino's western/southern mash-up Django Unchained ends up making a giant slash at the box office.

Christopher McQuarrie To Direct Rubicon Based On Seven Samurai

Deadline reports that screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie is setting up a deal for his third directorial effort Rubicon. The project is based on his graphic novel which is largely inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. Instead of samurais and bandits the heroes are Navy SEALS while the villains are the Taliban.

McQuarrie is no stranger to this type of genre he won an Oscar for his work on The Usual Suspects and did a decent writing job on Valkyrie. He's currently shooting his second film One Shot with Tom Cruise in the lead. Also writing scripts for Jack The Giant Killer, The Wolverine and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. While I'm on board for his writing abilites and this project's concept. I'll have to see One Shot before getting my hopes up since his first film had major pacing issues.
