Theo James Attached For UNDERWORLD 5 And Two New Females Leads Will Be Cast

THR reports that British actor Theo James is attached to reprise his role of David from Underworld: Awakening in Underworld 5, rumored to be titled Underworld: Next Generation (via BloodyDisgusting). The new film is expected to be set within the Underworld universe, but will move away from the Selena story. Cory Goodman (Preist, The Last Witch Hunter) penned the script.

Kate Beckinsale won't be returning, but the studio is looking to cast two female leads. No word when the film will be set, but it's possible that India Esley's Eve could return.

GAME OF THRONES Actress Maisie Williams Could Take A Lead Role In THE LAST OF US

Comic-Con is in full swing which means that casting and production news are about to make massive waves. One coming out of the event is that Sam Raimi will produce Sony's The Last of Us film adaptation. The project is based on Naughty Dog's widely popular Playstation game, which features a monstrous end of days in a mostly abandon urban environment reclaimed by nature (think Dawn of The Planet of The Apes, but with zombie-like creatures). Producers mentioned during their panel that Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams has met with them about the key-role of Ellie.

Sony Hires Original Game Writer To Pen THE LAST OF US Movie

It's starting to look like studios are going-for-broke when it comes to adapting video games to film. reports that Sony is looking to develop The Last of Us into a film, which just happens to be a Sony owned (developed by Naughty Dog) video game. TheWrap has news Sony's Screen Gems is aiming to distribute the film with Sam Raimi producing with his company Ghost House Pictures. Neil Druckmann, who wrote the game's story has been hired to pen the script. A second game is expected to be released in 2015, which might lead to a trilogy, similar to Uncharted.


This sounds like the best situation, as the Naughty Dog games have the most cinematic stories. Having another writer mangle the material seems like the worst idea, if the original story is solid. It's the second Naughty Dog produced game property the studio is developing, they're currently taking another-shot at making an Uncharted movie. Director Seth Gordon (War Games, Horrible Bosses, Identity Theft) recently made a deal to direct that action-adventure comedy. It will be interesting if Sony ends up hiring another director tailor-made for the horror thriller.

Screen Gems Buys Rights To Devil May Cry

Sony Screen Gems has a few successful franchises in their pockets one being Underworld. An original concept that has spawned four films. The fourth currently in development and about to go into production. Their other big money maker is Resident Evil based on the popular Capcom video game series. That one is about to go into it's fifth installment. Now Collider reports that Screen Gems has bought the rights to another Capcom game Devil May Cry in the hopes to make a movie.

The games center around Dante, a man who slaughters demons to avenge his mother’s death. Kyle Ward has been hired to write the script and has previously wrote for the adaptation of Kane & Lynch. There seems to be a market out there for R-rated horror based action films and I'm all for that. Let's just hope that Paul W.S. Anderson isn't brought in to produce or direct as he's best suited for Resident Evil.
