Could Idris Elba Play 007 In BOND 26?

The Daniel Craig era of Bond will have to end sometime and seems like producers are looking to the future. Craig has already signed up for two more installments Bond 24 and Bond 25. However, according to Skyfall co-star Naomie Harris who talked to TheHuffingtonPost Idris Elba is a strong candidate to replace him. She confirms that Elba (Prometheus, The Wire, Luther) has met with producers about the role. It's likely that Bond 26 is the film that Craig would end up passing on.

"I didn’t realize that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris [Elba] and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli [James Bond producer] and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond. And I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he’s a great guy."

There had been a strong push for the actor to be considered for iconic role from his fans and film bloggers (like myself). Elba the ever modest, commented on the pros and cons earlier in the year. My belief is that if someone like Christopher Nolan (who wants to reinvent the franchise) gets involved it would be the perfect chance to place him in the part. Idris has proved himself over and over as an excellent action/dramatic actor, a perfect combo for Bond. Names such as Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender have also been linked for the part.

Day Of The Triffids Lands A Writer, Could Sam Raimi Direct?

HeatVision reports that The Day of The Triffids remake from Sam Raimi's production company Ghost House has finally landed a writer. Neil Cross best known for writing the BBC series Luther and Spooks will write the film's script. Cross recently wrote the upcoming horror film Mama from producer Guillermo del Toro which stars Oscar nominated actress Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Headhunters, Game of Thrones). Not to mention helping with rewrites on Guillermo's Pacific Rim.

While there hasn't been a director named for Triffids the property is classic enough that it very well might be a project that Raimi could direct himself. We haven't seen a horror film from Raimi since 2009's Drag Me To Hell, so Sam's horror itch might come back. Currently, Raimi will be busy with post-production on Oz, The Great And Powerful until it's release in March of next year.

Brian Kirk Could Direct Robert Ludlum's Osterman Weekend

Deadline reports that Irish director Brian Kirk is in talks to helm The Osterman Weekend based on the novel by Robert Ludlum. The author is best know for the Bourne series of novels. The film is setup at Lionsgate/Summit and is expected to be a new spy franchise in the making similar to Bourne. Kirk was in talks to direct the Thor sequel and has directed many television shows including Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Luck, The Tudors, Dexter and Luther.

I have to say the one person I see in the lead of this budding franchise is none other than Idris Elba. Kirk has previously worked with Elba on the serial killer BBC series Luther. Idris has been slowly priming himself to be the next Denzel Washington playing every role thrown at him from genre to drama.
