Shane Black's NICE GUYS Could Star Ryan Gosling And Russell Crowe
TheWrap reports that Shane Black's next film will be setup at Warner Bros. Titled The Nice Guys, the film is set in the 1970s, and is a noir thriller. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe are linked for being in the mix for the leading roles. Shane co-wrote the script with Anthony Bagarozzi, the pair previously worked together on Doc Savage. Here is the film's synopsis via TheWrap.
Set in smoggy 1970s Los Angeles, story follows Jackson Healy (muscle-for-hire, recovering alcoholic) and Holland March (private eye, practicing alcoholic), who are brought together by the suicide of a fading porn star. However, the dead girl's aunt is convinced she saw her niece alive and well after the highly publicized incident. March needs money, takes the case, and within days, it's blossomed into a far-reaching murder conspiracy, bizarrely rooted in smog and the U.S. auto industry.
The last time Shane played in the noir genre we got Robert Downey Jr.'s career resurrector Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. Black is best known for creating the Lethal Weapon franchise, not to mention directing the billion-dollar box office success Iron Man 3. He also wrote 90s action classics The Last Boy Scout and The Long Kiss Goodnight. The writer-director is currently working on a Doc Savage film, and helping Fox with a new Predator film, which is said to be more of a sequel to the original. He is also rumored to be consultant on the story development for Die Hard 5. Post-Iron Man 3, Black has been in high-demand and it's not surprising.
ThePlaylist adds that the studio has set the release date for June 17th, 2016.

IRON MAN 3's Shane Black Directing New PREDATOR Sequel, Will Schwarzenegger Return?
It sounds like Fox isn't waiting around for Robert Rodriguez's Predators sequel. THR reports that Iron Man 3 and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Last Boy Scout) will return to his early career roots, by directing a new Predator film. His Monster Squad partner Fred Dekker (Tales From The Crypt, Night of The Creeps) will handle the scripting duties with Black helping with the treatment. Black had a supporting role in the original film, and even wrote an early draft that was never used.
Collider adds that Fred Dekker and Black will be scripting the film as a sequel, rather than a reboot. Expanding on existing mythology setup by the original films. This could leave the door open to have Danny Glover or Arnold Schwarzenegger return. There had been ideas from Robert Rodriguez to have Glover and Arnold's characters taken to the Predator homeworld to battle aliens in a gladiator arena. It's unknown if that's the angle for this new film, but with Arnold reprising his classic roles (Terminator, Conan, Twins), returning as Dutch wouldn't be very shocking. Arnold was originally set to cameo in Predators, but had to turn it down and Laurence Fishburne took the part instead. Let's not forget that Shane and Arnold worked together on Last Action Hero.
Fox has a sequel to Prometheus about to begin production too. Could we see all these worlds eventually connected? Or, at the very least better connected, than the horrible AVP films? We should forget those movies ever happened and expect the studio trying to at least have all these films connected. Ridley Scott has already connected Prometheus to Blade Runner, by having Eldon Tyrell as the mentor of Peter Weyland. This establishes the cinematic universe is also connected that franchise as well, which is also getting a sequel.
While having the xenomorphs, predators, engineers and replicants existing in the same universe, but not exactly interacting/fighting each other. Darkhorse Comics is already putting together a series of comics, which connects all the films (Alien, Prometheus and Predator). Connecting the sci-fi horror franchises could be a good idea, but needs to be executed properly. Shane Black has experience with grand mythology and expanding film universes, dipping his toes into the MCU with Iron Man 3.
We recently heard from Sigourney Weaver that she wants to play Ripley again in Alien 5. Considering Fox is pushing forward with so many sci-fi projects, they'll finally give fans an end to the main Alien saga. The studio hasn't commented on this, but I'm sure they're strongly considering it. Since Weaver will be appearing in all three of the Avatar sequels, her awareness will be pushed into the international markets again. Originally, Prometheus was set to be a two-part feature, ending with the second film. Having Ripley return and complete her story would make sense post-Prometheus 2.

RUMOR: Shane Black Could Direct JUSTICE LEAGUE If Zack Snyder Passes
While we've heard names like Christopher Nolan and Ben Affleck could be involved with making Justice League. The latter denied ever being in talks even though a creditable source confirmed he was in talks, similar to his meetings for Man of Steel. Nolan on the other hand had been linked for producer role similar to his godfathering of Man of Steel. Ben had also been named as the runner up for directing Star Wars Episode VII. LatinoReview has tweeted that Shane Black in the mix for the directing job and could be hired if Zack Snyder passes. Black seen above has had a long standing relationship with Warner Bros. being the creative force behind their Lethal Weapon franchise and the underrated Bruce Willis action comedy The Last Boy Scout.
Shane was scooped up by Marvel Studios to co-write and direct Iron Man 3 with his good friend Robert Downey Jr. in the lead. The pair previously worked together on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang ( a Warner Bros. production) a film that resurrected Downey's career and helped him land the lead in Iron Man. Even if Iron Man 3 overshadows previous installments Marvel likes to keep things fresh by hiring new directors. While it's possible Black could stay on to produce and write future Iron Man sequels. It doesn't seem likely he'll be asked to return to direct. Giving him the ability to move on to other big projects. Having Black add major rewrites to the Justice League script could also help reign in the quality of the project.
It also sounds like it's Zack Snyder's (300, Watchmen) job to give up. As Warner Bros. seemed happy with his work on Man of Steel as they started development on a sequel. A recent article pointed to Snyder taking meetings with LucasFilm about making a standalone film set in the Star Wars universe. It will be interesting to see if Snyder ends up making Man of Steel 2, Justice League or his Star Wars spin-off.
