Deadline reports that Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, Hanna) and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) have joined the cast of Ryan Gosling's directorial debut How To Catch A Monster. The rest of the cast includes Christina Hendricks (Drive, Mad Men) in the lead with Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom, Dark Knight Rises) and Eva Mendes (The Place Beyond The Pines) in supporting roles. The story is set against the dreamscape of a vanishing city where Hendricks’ character gets swept into a macabre fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.

The two recently worked together on the crime thriller A Place Beyond The Pines. Christina Hendricks (Drive) also stars in the film as the lead character Billy.

How To Catch a Monster weaves elements of fantasy noir, and suspense into a modern day fairytale. Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.
