Emily VanCamp Confirmed For Agent 13/Sharon Carter And Hayley Atwell Returning As Peggy In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

While newcomer Emily VanCamp was confirmed for a role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier outlets were hesitant to say for sure she was playing Sharon Carter. A new press release from Marvel confirms Emily will indeed play Agent 13 who is the niece of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). Along with this it was revealed that Hayley Atwell will be apart of the film as well.

Deadline reports that newcomer Emily Vancamp (Revenge) has landed the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Her character isn't being revealed at this time but I'm sure Marvel will include that information when they officially announce her casting. She joins new additions Anthony Mackie/The Falcon and Frank Grillo as villain Crossbones. The rest of the cast includes Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smudlers and Toby Jones.

It's very likely that she'll be playing Sharon Carter (Agent 13) since the character has been rumored for ages. Along with the fact she could be a link to Rogers reuniting with Peggy. However, it's also possible that they could be saving Sharon for a third film. Rachel Leighton (Diamondback) is another love interest and fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. member which could easily be Emily's role as well.

SPECULATION: Is Ashley Johnson Playing A Marvel Heroine?

There seems to our first Avengers casting conspiracy. You might remember the blond waitress that appears in the trailers. She's played by Ashley Johnson (The Killing, The Help) who was first seen on Growing Pains which also developed Leonardo DiCaprio's career. Could this character be something more than she seems? Rumblings online have begun that she is more than just a cameo.

The waitress who witnesses the heroics of Steve Rogers firsthand seems to be enthralled by him. While nothing leads me to believe her role is nothing more than Joss giving a one of his actresses screentime (she has roles in both Whedon's Dollhouse and Much Ado About Nothing). There is a bit of "what if" here since she could be hinted as a possible future love interest. Possibly being revealed as Sharon Carter the niece of Peggy and the eventual SHIELD agent or the second thought is that she could be Carol Danvers (who later becomes Ms. Marvel). Sadly when it comes to these rumors they never seem to become true but the speculation is fun.

Charlize Theron And Director Rupert Wyatt Return To Sci-Fi With 'AGENT 13'

Variety reports on yet another budding project for Planet Of The Apes director Rupert Wyatt. The project titled Agent 13 has zero details known besides that it's a science fiction film from screenwriter T.S. Nowlin. Charlize Theron who is recently embracing genre films with Snow White And The Huntsman and Prometheus is attached to star. Currently the project is being shopped to studios that include 20th Century Fox, Sony, WB/Legendary, Paramount and Universal. My gut feeling is this will end up with Fox considering their relationship with both director and actress.
