Tom Cruise And Robert Downey Jr. Could Star In Jay Roach's 'EL PRESIDENTE'
Vulture is reporting that writer/director Jay Roach (Game Change, The Campaign, Dinner for Schmucks, Austin Powers 1-3) is talks with Warner Bros. to direct the presidential comedy El Presidente. The film's script is from Parks And Recreation writer Dan Goor. It would focus on a Secretive Service Agent that get's reassigned to a an ex-President who is a bumbling sleaze. A threat is made on the ex-president's life and two go on the run. Tom Cruise is being looked at for the role of the agent while Robert Downey Jr. could end up playing the ex-prez.
Roach is excellent comedy director even more so recently with his political humor, this should a comedy to worth watching. However, there are doubts if the studio will be able to land the two stars. Considering RDJ's recent massive success with Avengers and Cruise's MI4 getting decent box office along with early Oscar buzz for Rock of Ages. The pair could rightfully ask for slew of money to join the project.
