DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are still interested in making Shazam. They've hired DC Comics scribe Geoff Johns and rookie screenwriter Bill Birch to write a new script. I think it's a great move by DC Entertainment to hire in house comic writers to help write their scripts. Birch has said that it won't be s dark s The Dark Knight.
One of my only issues with the project is the involvement of director Peter Segal. While Segal has had average attempts at comedy films with Get Smart and 50 First Dates. He's also responsible for some very awful ones. He's not even on the level of Jon Favreau prior to Iron Man. I hope they look for another director. Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) seems like a director that could do the comic adaptation justice.
RUMORS
Birch had talked about Ryan Reynolds being his choice for Captain Marvel. He's already playing The Green Lantern and Marvel's Deadpool.
Peter Segal's choice for villain Black Adam is Dwayne Johnson.
CASTING THOUGHTS
My choices would be to see John Hamm (Mad Men, Sucker Punch) as Captian Marvel and Dileep Rao (Avatar, Inception, Drag Me To Hell) as Black Adam.
