KILL BILL 3 Not Happening Afterall?
WeGotThisCovered asked about the status of Kill Bill 3 to Quentin Tarantino who didn't give the impression it's actually going to happen. His response sounds a bit troublesome for Kill Bill fans expecting a final installment. Yet for Tarantino fans we know to expect this from him. He had previously tried to make a Vega Brothers (Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs spin-off) film which never happened. There was even talk of an Inglorious Basterds sequel/prequel before Django was chosen as the next film. This could mean that Quentin is going to focus on other ideas he's been trying to put together instead of making something he's already done.
“I don’t know if there’s ever going to be a Kill Bill. Vol 3. We’ll see, probably not though.”
He's been talking up his 30's era gangster film recently and could very well be next for him. Tarantino has previously stated he wants to direct 10 films then retire. This could mean that he's going to axe sequels if a project captures his interest. A similar way how Django Unchained ended up becoming his follow up to Inglorious Basterds. I wouldn't be shocked to see him choose his last two-three (depending if Kill Bill 1-2 is considered one film) projects more carefully if they're going to be this successful commercially and critically. Quentin being more posed to earn awards for original material rather than rehashing with sequels. He's also talked up making a traditional western and I would assume he'd also want to make a samurai film at some point too.

Quentin Tarantino's Slave-Themed Western "A Southern" Next
Uma Thurman has a special relationship with Quentin Tarantino as together they came up with the concept for the Kill Bill films. So if anyone would know what is next for Tarantino it would be her as Kill Bill 3 is currently in development with Uma returning. Uma talked to HollywoodOutbreak giving confirmation that the script for his slave-themed western A Southern is finished. It was previously announced that Tarantino had a western film in the works with a script soon to be completed and would start production within the year. It was rumored to be shooting on location in Spain and Italy.“I think he has a script ready to start of a new film, ‘A Southern’, I think it’s really exciting. It’s another new story and a fresh piece of material that he is channeling at the moment. So I think ‘Kill Bill’ lives down the road.”
A Southern was previously talked up by Tarantino as a slave-themed Spaghetti Western. It also sounds similar to his Inglourious Basterds prequel focusing on a group of African-American soldiers. I expect this film could be a mix of both projects involving a group of black heroes taking down slave owners and the Klan. Christoph Waltz has been rumored for a role so if this is true he very well could end up in another villainous role.
"I want to explore something that really hasn't been done....I want to do movies that deal with America's horrible past with slavery and stuff but do them like spaghetti westerns, not like big issue movies. I want to do them like they're genre films, but they deal with everything that America has never dealt with because it's ashamed of it, and other countries don't really deal with because they don't feel they have the right to."
"I'd like to do a Western. But rather than set it in Texas, have it in slavery times. With that subject that everybody is afraid to deal with. Let's shine that light on ourselves......You could do a ponderous history lesson of slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad. Or, you could make a movie that would be exciting. Do it as an adventure. A spaghetti Western that takes place during that time. And I would call it A Southern."

Tarantino Making Untitled Spaghetti Western & Christoph Waltz Has A Role?
AICN is reporting that Quentin Tarantino's next film will be a Spaghetti Western set to shoot sometime this year. They also mention that Christoph Waltz will have a role in the film. Zero plot information is attached to this story and who Waltz will play. Take this news with grain of salt as this could be from mouth of Tarantino himself but could never end up happening. He's notorious for talking up possible projects but never actually happening. Yet, it's interesting to think this could be the film he makes before jumping into Kill Bill 3.
Tarantino has long talked about his love for Italian director Sergio Leone and being a major influence in his films. Leone directed some of the best westerns ever put on film including Once Upon A Time In The West and The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. They say the project could start shooting sometime this year in Spain and Italy. I could see see Quentin doing a similar way of shooting that he did with Inglourious Basterds. Shooting and editing at the same time to have it ready for a premiere at Cannes next year. If true this just became my most anticipated film of 2012.
