X-Men First Class Not Going To Be Based On The Comic?
It looks like Bryan Singer's X-Men Origins: First Class won't be what we first thought it would be. While the name will be taken from the comic by Jeff Parker. The actual plot of the film won't feature Jean, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman or Angel. Instead according to Singer the film will focus on the early relationship between Xavier and Magento. Even more interesting is that they'll be in their 20's during the film. It will also focus on the creation of the school and how the two had their falling out. Singer talked to Variety about the project and gave away some plot points.
"This is the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there relationship took a wrong turn," Singer said. "There is a romantic element, and some of the mutants from 'X-Men' will figure into the plot, though I don't want to say which ones. There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain."
This means we could see brand new mutants showcased in the film and it could be somewhat of a reboot. Introducing new mutants is good way not have to worry about the cannon of the previous films and comics. Plus all you really need in the film is Xavier and Magneto anyways. I knew something like this "could" happen with Singer's involvement and now I feel a little more excited for the project.
I think Fox does understand the bad taste X-Men 3 and Wolverine left in fan's mouths. I somewhat feel more confident in what 20th Century Fox is doing with the franchise let's hope the studio allows Singer to make the changes he wants. My belief is that this film could either develop into more spin-offs or help develop the plots for X-Men 4 and X-Men 5. It also seems to me that they're using aspects that would have been in the Magneto film. I wouldn't be surprised if that project is completely dead now.
