Anderson's Three Musketeers Gets Decent Cast!

Wow, I'm just speechless about the recent casting announcement from HeatVision for Paul W.S. Anderson's Three Musketeers. Anderson's project is competing with Warner Bros. which also has a Musketeer film in the works. Yet with this recent casting news WB might want to give up on it. I'm actually shocked with the level of talent Anderson has been able to wrangle for the film.


The impressive cast includes Ray Stevenson (Thor), Luke Evans (Clash of The Titans), Matthew Macfadyen (Robin Hood), Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds), Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) and Milla Jovovich.


Orlando Bloom and Logan Lerman are in also in talks.

De Niro & Others Join Killer Elite

Jason Statham seems to be on roll with his action roles lately. His upcoming films The Expendables and remake of The Mechanic look like Statham will be making his come back to awesome action films. The Killer Elite his next flick is shaping up to be yet another chance for Jason to show off his bad-ass-side. Based on the novel The Feather Men by Ranulph Fiennes and co-starring Clive Owen. It's now gained some interesting additions to the cast. MovieHole is confirming that Robert De Niro, Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom), Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck) and others have joined the film.

Monaghan & Shannon Join Bulter In Machine Gun Preacher

Deadline has confirmed that Gerard Butler will star in Marc Forster's (Monster's Ball, Quantum of Solace) Machine Gun Preacher. Based on the real life of outlaw biker turned child soldier liberator Sam Childers. The film will shoot this summer, Michelle Monaghan (Trucker) playing Childers' wife along with Micheal Shannon in talks for a role. It's nice to see Butler finally taking on serious film roles considering he got his start on the theater stage in the UK.

Mulligan, Page & Pitt Looking To Star In Fincher's Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Deadline reports that major actresses are vying for the lead role in David Fincher's remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The two that stick out to me as being perfect are Carey Mulligan and Ellen Page. The rest of the list includes Kristen Stewart, Mia Wasikowska, Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Olivia Thirlby and Scarlett Johannson. They also mention an offer has gone out to Brad Pitt for the male lead.

J.J Abrams' Super 8 Trailer Released

The secret trailer for J.J. Abrams' Super 8 hit theaters not too long ago. It looked very cool similar to a contemporary Close Encounters of The Third Kind meets Cloverfield (yet not connected to it). It mentions coming out next summer which could mean it will take MI4's previous May 27th 2011 spot. While most details are still unknown, here are some facts we do know. I would post the bootleg but it's not great quality and will get pulled soon anyways. I'm sure Paramount will post the HD version online soon since the film's website just went live.

Toby Jones Joins Captain America?

HeatVision reports actor Toby Jones (W) is in final talks to take the role of evil scientist Arnim Zola in Captain America. Jones' character would likely be working alongside the Red Skull played by Hugo Weaving.

Rise of The Apes Coming June 24th 2011

There has been a lot of back and forth with the Planet of The Apes reboot/prequel. First 20th Century Fox had been very interested in making the new film then it fell off course and into development hell. The script ended up getting rewrites and new blood was pumped into it. The had been offers put out to directors like Robert Rodriguez and Kathryn Bigelow but nothing came of it.

Now there is finally big news coming from Fox on the project. The film titled Rise of The Apes will be directed by Rupert Wyatt(The Escapist), who had been rumored but never confirmed until now. There's more exciting news that Weta Digital is handling the digital effects of the film. Their plan is to create photo-realistic CGI apes to replace actors in ape makeup. Weta is best known for their work the Lord of The Rings trilogy, Avatar and District 9. This is great news considering the makeup it only worked in the early films. I felt it hindered the actors' ability to speak in the Tim Burton version, which never lived to up it's full potential. I'm just glad to see Fox is committed to the prolific franchise.

Kick-Ass 2 Coming 2012?

Mark Millar has revealed in his new magazine CLiNT that Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall could start production in 2011 and released in 2012. Considering Matthew Vaughn will be busy with X-Men First Class until June of next year it might work out. Yet we're still waiting on news when Wanted 2 will start production

Skip Woods Hired To Write Die Hard 5

It looks like 20th Century Fox is quickly moving forward with Die Hard 5. Of course Bruce Willis only has a few more years before he won't be able to do these physically demanding action films. Fox has hired screenwriter Skip Woods to write the script. While he might be blamed for wrecks like Hitman and Wolverine. He did however give good efforts with Swordfish and the upcoming A-Team. I'll be interested to see if they'll be able to hire Len Wiseman to direct again.

REVIEW: Iron Man 2

If I had to come up with one word to describe one of the most anticipated film of 2010 it would have to be disappointing. While it does improve on the original's lack of action it's still not enough of actual Iron Man fighting villains. We see Iron Man taking on droids which gave me flashbacks of those awful clone-droid battles from the horrible Star Wars prequels. While they really did bump-up the casting with Cheadle, Johansson, Rourke and Rockwell they don't nearly get enough screentime. While director Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan eats up way too much of other actors' valuable character development. I enjoyed Clark Gregg's scenes in the original but this time he was shoved in to point out the little teasers which seemed pointless and unsatisfying. Sam Jackson's Nick Fury was easily the most charismatic character in the film. It's surprising how lousy the Tony Stark scenes were the dialog just dragged on to the point I tuned out of the film during them. If Pepper Potts had been taken out of the film and Black Widow had been the love interest it could have worked and felt less bloated. I had expected to see Favreau fix his first act pacing problems that hurt the original film, only for him to repeat it. The film felt very rushed and little effort put into the film's actual plot.

I won't reveal the end teaser but it was the biggest disappointment of the whole movie. You would expect something more from Marvel but it just wasn't as good as Nick Fury showing up. I'm sure it will make lots of money I just hope this quality isn't repeated with the other films. I'm shocked how they weren't able to handle the amount of characters in Iron Man 2. It felt messy and I'm not sure how Avengers is going to work if they couldn't get this one right. It's not as bad as Wolverine or Spider-Man 3 but it's on the edge. It seems that the film was only made to setup the Marvel universe rather than giving us a compelling story.

Vaughn Directing X-Men First Class, Coming June 2011

20th Century Fox has officially announced they've hired Matthew Vaughn to direct X-Men First Class with Bryan Singer acting as producer. The most shocking part of the announcement invovles the release date which has been set for June 3rd 2011. This means next summer we'll be getting Thor, Green Lantern, Pirates 4, Captain America, Cowboys & Aliens and now X-Men First Class.

Hugo Weaving has been attached to the role of Red Skull for weeks now and Marvel Studios has finally confirmed the actor has signed on.
